Can someone tell me what the crossover frequencies are for the M60Ti and the M80Ti

Energy/B&W has these in their specs for each driver and I wanted to compare the Axioms with them, specially the crossover set for the tweeter.

Hi rupster9,

Both the M60ti and M80ti are 3-way speaker systems and use the same crossover frequencies: 200 Hz and 3,400 Hz.

By the way, although the actual crossover frequencies are interesting from a technical point of view, they don't provide meaningful information to consumers about how smooth a speaker's on-axis and off-axis frequency responses are, nor do they give any indication of probable sound quality.

Knowing crossover frequencies can be very useful from a designer's point of view, particularly when you're making careful anechoic measurements of frequency response. Loudspeaker peaks and dips in output often occur in the crossover region, so a designer can take corrective steps to smooth out any irregularities in response that might show up on the frequency curves of a speaker.

All speaker designers must contend with the difficulty of designing a crossover that smoothly transitions from the woofer/midrange to the tweeter, which unfortunately occurs in the midrange where human hearing is most acute. It's generally understood that if you achieve a smooth midrange response through the crossover region, you've solved most of the problems of designing a good speaker.

But the actual frequencies are of no use to consumers in comparing one brand with another.

So does that mean in the M60 that below 200 Hz goes to both 6.5" drivers, 200 Hz to 3,400 Hz goes to the 5.25" driver, and 3,400 Hz goes to the 1" tweeter? That seems like it is making the 5.25" one do most of the work.

From what I have read I should set the speaker size on my receiver to small. Anyone know where that puts the crossover? It seems like that would make it so just 80-200Hz goes to both 6.5" drivers.

I already ordered my pair of M60's so I guess I will find out how it sounds for myself, but I thought I would ask to see if there was a specific reason for setting the crossover that low.

My M60's are set as large. I paid for large speakers, I might as well use them that way. They sound great this way.
