NH,
A friend and i went and did some auditioning awhile back.
You can peruse our thoughts in this thread.

Oddly enough, i may also be the closest to you that has M60s and has heard the Monitors as well, however, sidvicious just recently moved to Sask so you may want to drop him a PM. If you are ever a bit further east near the Peg, send me a PM and i'll be glad to host an afternoon of auditioning with whatever i happen to have at home. See my profile for a relatively complete listing.

Ah the Peg. My home town! I was actually just there a few weeks back for some meetings. Next time I get there I will look you up! I did read that thread many months back. I agree with the comments on the Monitor Audio's. Although I think one of you said they are bright. Not sure I have ever thought of a Monitor Audio speaker as bright. Axiom M80's, yep not the Monitor's. I don't think I have ever heard the 8's but if they sound anything like the 9i's or the new 10's,....one word....WOW! Have you ever heard Axiom's M50's? To this day they are still the best Axiom speaker I have heard.

Sid, what part of SK did you move to?

A friend of mine was born & raised in Saskatoon. When he was about 13 his parents drove down to the southern US. Stopped at a gas station along the way. An old guy came out and started filling the tank. Walked around to the back of the car and looked at the license plate..

"Sa...ska...tcha... wan...... where's that ?"

"It's in Canada, just north of North Dakota"

old guy chews & spits, thinks about this for a minute...

"Shee-it... ain't nothing north of North Dakota..."

My friend moved to the UK shortly afterwards, couldn't handle North America any more...

thats funny?? i always thought there was nothing north of texas!!

OK, that was not funny.. back to the subject. my wife has completely fallen in love with our new HT system. she also checks every DVD she buys for 'widescreen' and 'DTS'. i always walk-in to her listening to music, and she always asks me to show off the system when friends are over. she even showed interest when i mentioned getting a better sub. she really likes the way that bass feels.

i am a lucky man!!

How'd you do it, bigjohn? Got any tips for us poor guys with disinterested (i.e., "We can't afford the M60's right now...") wives? How do I light a fire under her???

Let hear the B&W 703's. Tell her you love them and MUST have them. Then wait a few days and tell her you find the M60ti's - at 1/3 the price! You'll be the hero.

i wish i did man?? to be honest, my wife wasnt all that interested in the whole HT thing in the beginning.. but, she knows me well enough to know that i do lots of research and investigation, and that i wasnt just gonna blow lots of cash on something that wasnt worth it. so, once i started ordering items, and getting stuff in, she just kinda went with the flow.. once it was all hooked up and set up, we watched a few movies and listened to some cd's, and it was like someone pulled the string on the light bulb. she just truly enjoyed the experience, and still does. not once has she made a reference to 'the big speakers"' or 'its too loud'.... well, OK.. a couple of times on the too loud, but not in a nagging way. and my wife was a total skeptic.. she always used to say, "the quality dont matter that much.. i could listen to music from a jambox and be OK".. well, needless to say, she has changed her mind. and i am glad about that. and , it was an added plus that axiom offeres custom finishes, cause she got to pick exactly the finish she wanted. the classic oak finish matches very well with the rest of the living room, and she couldnt more pleased about that.

like i was saying, i think my wife just has an open mind, and is considerate to me desires.. she knew this was something that i really wanted, so she let me have it. and at the same time, she ended up with a toy that she never expected to like, or want. so, the way i see it, its a win/win situation. and as mentioned, she has been very agreeable to the idea of getting a better sub, but she did nix the idea for an external amp.. she thinks its loud enough as it is, but i am still working on her..

i hope you can have a smooth time with your wife DZ. i cant say enough how lucky i am.. and i know it.. so, the only advice i could give would be for all of ya'll to come down here and get you a good texas girl.. theres plenty of good ones to choose from, but i done got the best!! sorry

Well I'm leaning towards another set of M50's. I wonder if I could just EQ the M50's just a little through my Denon 3805 to add just a little more in the highs?

Good job John.
When are you coming to Dallas?
Played a new disc golf course the other day, I think you'd like it.
