As most know I have had them all as far as Axiom goes except the M40's and the M60's. I didn't like the M80's so I went with the M50's. I then ditched everything and went with Monitor Audio. I have now gotten back my M50's. (Long story) I'm having a hard time getting surrounds and a center in the Monitor line so I'm thinking hard at going back full bore into Axiom.

Anyway, I now have the M50's sitting side by side with the Monitor Audio Silver 9i's and I gotta tell you, they are close, real close. The 50's as you all would expect are a little more laid back then the Monitor's but not by much. The Monitors have a little better thing going on with the highs and mids, but again not by much. I'm not sure either one does bass any better then the other but there are some little things going on that I just can't put my finger on. I can post a side by side review later if anyone wants. Anyway, the point to my rambling is, would I like the M60's? Are they as in your face as the 80's? If they are, then I'm going all M50's for the fronts and surrounds or spend yet more money to complete my Monitor Audio set-up. M50's in the back is overkill I know but I'm a huge fan of having your fronts and backs the same if you can wing it. I'm on the fence and hell it's been a bit since I changed something, so what the hell.

You guy's are killing me with all the M60 talk and I have to know for myself but instead of wasting time and money on the M60's only to send them back, I thought I would run it past you folks. I only need to know a couple of things in order for me to proceed:

1 - Do the 9i's sound like the M60's? My thought process is this, if the M50's are close to the 9i's then the M60's should be closer in a good way. ie: A wee bit more treble and a wee bit more midrange.

2 - Are the M60's as in your face as the M80's? If so then I'm dead right now.

3 - Anybody got a set of M60's in Regina I can hear?

4 - Are the M60's midrange heavy? If they are, I'm dead again. I absolutely hate midrange. Don't ask me why but over the years it the one constant with me and speakers.

lol It's a hobby for me. Plain and simple. Makes my wife go crazy and she doesn't get it at all. I like to try everything. I have had a ton of stuff from Paradign, Monitor, Axiom, Energy and a ton of others................it's fun. I love every minute of it! Nothing sits on my audio shelf for more then a few months before it's time to try something new. There have been a few exceptions to the rule but your right, I change a lot...................maybe I need help? Maybe I'm really a geek?

I haven't actually listened to anything but M2i's, but the gist of the reviews is that the M80s are a bit brighter than M60s, particularly in the upper midrange.

If you have owned all the other Axiom speakers I can't imagine they would have a problem with you trying out the M60s as long as you pack 'em up carefully if they don't work out...

I can't think of anything better than actually trying all these speakers. Go for it !!

I have talked to Amie and others at Axiom more then once let's put it that way! lol Amie is welcome to post in this thread if she wants to confirm how much I have in fact bought from Axiom and for that matter, how many people have bought as a result of me. (I'm not sure if she would know that part) I should be on the darn payroll................or better yet, my next set of Axiom speakers should actually be free! lol

But you make a good point. Perhaps if I go with the M60's, Axiom may take my mint M50's in on trade perhaps? Hmmmmmmmmm Amie?

wid, my wife can rag on me with the best of them over this HT stuff but at the end of the day she loves watching her movies. That is the only reason I get away with it. She actually gets pissed now if I bring home a DVD that isn't DTS. She loves DTS and thinks DD is just ok. lol

OK, she sounds like a "keeper". Most women wouldn't humour us enough to learn that DTS and DD are even different.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking she actually gives a rat's a** about the difference in audio encoding; she's just being nice, but you're still a very lucky man.

NH,
A friend and i went and did some auditioning awhile back.
You can peruse our thoughts in this thread.

Oddly enough, i may also be the closest to you that has M60s and has heard the Monitors as well, however, sidvicious just recently moved to Sask so you may want to drop him a PM. If you are ever a bit further east near the Peg, send me a PM and i'll be glad to host an afternoon of auditioning with whatever i happen to have at home. See my profile for a relatively complete listing.

Ah the Peg. My home town! I was actually just there a few weeks back for some meetings. Next time I get there I will look you up! I did read that thread many months back. I agree with the comments on the Monitor Audio's. Although I think one of you said they are bright. Not sure I have ever thought of a Monitor Audio speaker as bright. Axiom M80's, yep not the Monitor's. I don't think I have ever heard the 8's but if they sound anything like the 9i's or the new 10's,....one word....WOW! Have you ever heard Axiom's M50's? To this day they are still the best Axiom speaker I have heard.

Sid, what part of SK did you move to?

>>Sid, what part of SK did you move to?

A friend of mine was born & raised in Saskatoon. When he was about 13 his parents drove down to the southern US. Stopped at a gas station along the way. An old guy came out and started filling the tank. Walked around to the back of the car and looked at the license plate..

"Sa...ska...tcha... wan...... where's that ?"

"It's in Canada, just north of North Dakota"

old guy chews & spits, thinks about this for a minute...

"Shee-it... ain't nothing north of North Dakota..."

My friend moved to the UK shortly afterwards, couldn't handle North America any more...

thats funny?? i always thought there was nothing north of texas!!

OK, that was not funny.. back to the subject. my wife has completely fallen in love with our new HT system. she also checks every DVD she buys for 'widescreen' and 'DTS'. i always walk-in to her listening to music, and she always asks me to show off the system when friends are over. she even showed interest when i mentioned getting a better sub. she really likes the way that bass feels.

i am a lucky man!!

How'd you do it, bigjohn? Got any tips for us poor guys with disinterested (i.e., "We can't afford the M60's right now...") wives? How do I light a fire under her???

Let hear the B&W 703's. Tell her you love them and MUST have them. Then wait a few days and tell her you find the M60ti's - at 1/3 the price! You'll be the hero.

i wish i did man?? to be honest, my wife wasnt all that interested in the whole HT thing in the beginning.. but, she knows me well enough to know that i do lots of research and investigation, and that i wasnt just gonna blow lots of cash on something that wasnt worth it. so, once i started ordering items, and getting stuff in, she just kinda went with the flow.. once it was all hooked up and set up, we watched a few movies and listened to some cd's, and it was like someone pulled the string on the light bulb. she just truly enjoyed the experience, and still does. not once has she made a reference to 'the big speakers"' or 'its too loud'.... well, OK.. a couple of times on the too loud, but not in a nagging way. and my wife was a total skeptic.. she always used to say, "the quality dont matter that much.. i could listen to music from a jambox and be OK".. well, needless to say, she has changed her mind. and i am glad about that. and , it was an added plus that axiom offeres custom finishes, cause she got to pick exactly the finish she wanted. the classic oak finish matches very well with the rest of the living room, and she couldnt more pleased about that.

like i was saying, i think my wife just has an open mind, and is considerate to me desires.. she knew this was something that i really wanted, so she let me have it. and at the same time, she ended up with a toy that she never expected to like, or want. so, the way i see it, its a win/win situation. and as mentioned, she has been very agreeable to the idea of getting a better sub, but she did nix the idea for an external amp.. she thinks its loud enough as it is, but i am still working on her..

i hope you can have a smooth time with your wife DZ. i cant say enough how lucky i am.. and i know it.. so, the only advice i could give would be for all of ya'll to come down here and get you a good texas girl.. theres plenty of good ones to choose from, but i done got the best!! sorry

bigjohn

Well I'm leaning towards another set of M50's. I wonder if I could just EQ the M50's just a little through my Denon 3805 to add just a little more in the highs?

When are you coming to Dallas?
Played a new disc golf course the other day, I think you'd like it.

thats a good question.. looks like we wont be in the metroplex til probably end of october.. we got tickets to the cowboys-vs-lions game on oct 31st, so for sure then.. we will also be coming up for the game on december 12th against the saints.. i had tickets to the monday night game against philly, but i sold them to my sister who lives up in allen..

i havent got to go disc golfing all summer.. we went a few times in the spring, but that seems like ages ago now. i lost my best driver disc, the innova 'shark', in the lake, and havent replaced it. i am still a beginner to novice, so i lose a few every once and a while. our local course has TONS of trees, so my discs are all hacked up. need to get some new ones.. or go jump in the lake and find my other one!!

Am I ever so envious of your position to test drive all those speakers!

I always wondered about M80s but never got a chance because in Australia, they are damn hard to find, let alone listen to. Thanks to suggestions from here, I ended getting a pair of Monitor Audio silver 8s after being told that they are the closest to Axiom 60s. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with my MAs but somehow, I often wondered about the M80s and toy around the idea of ditching my MAs for M80s. You would be the best person to advice me whether it is worth the effort.

As mentioned, the clarity and detail of MAs are superb and after breaking in, I just cannot fault them. Would M80s be able to top that? I cost a fortune to bring the M80s to Australia and I need more infor before I plunge head-on into a decision that might come back to haunt me later.

Your feedback would be much appreciated.

Well folks I hate to say it but I'm going with Monitor Audio for now. I tracked down a set of Silver 5i's for the rears and a set of Silver 3i's to use as twin centers. Same as I'm doing with my M3's. Hope this doesn't piss anybody off here. I just really like what the Monitor's have going on and I was close to pulling the trigger on the M60's but these fell in my lap. Best part is I got both sets for cheaper then the M60's.

I will be running Axiom again that I know, but for now I'm going to go back to a speaker that has always done it for me!

Thanks for all the feedback while I was deciding what to do. If anybody wants any of my Axiom stuff, let me know. I will work you out a price that is fair for all involved.

Hope this doesn't mean your leaving...? Even though its an "Axiom" forum I've always thought of it as a HT theatre forum visited by alot of Axiom owners. Your posts have always been informative and we need as many western canuckle heads as we can get.

Cheers,Jag

Heck no and thanks for taking the time to ask. I'm not going anywhere. I like it here. Just because I'm not running Axiom at the moment is no reason to take off. I have to stick around. Not only do I like it here but there are a few members of my family now running Axiom as a result of me and I need to keep up with what's new in the Axiom world. My brother-in-law has my old M80's. My father-in-law has my M3's and VP150 and there are a few more who have pieces here and there.

If Axiom does in fact come out with the much talked about new Anniversary line, I may be running Axioms again sooner rather then later! Like I said before, the gap to me between Axiom and Monitor Audio is not that large but there was enough there that I decided to run with Monitor for the time being. Happiest person in my house right now is my wife. She has always maintained that the Monitors were the best speaker I ever had in the house. lol

I really like the Monitors too, but the cost of the surrounds and center channel was a bit daunting. How do the Axiom surrounds blend with the Silver 9s?

Sorry I didn't get to this thread sooner NeverHappy. I've actually been in the middle of a move and still trying to catch up on all the posts I've missed in the forum (nearly 4000 in a month!!!!!). No one is exactly helping me out either, the politics and Streem speakers threads just hemorrage posts!

By the way, if anyone is interested I'm in Saskatoon now and would gladly give up my home for a few hours if there are people in the area that would like a listen to my Axiom setup.
