I like ALL floyd and 90% of Waters by himself.

Agreed. I don't have any use for Radio K.A.O.S.. I'd characterize it as misguided, silly and unfortunate. I'd also use the same description for all of Floyd's post-Waters output.

Oh, and I think I'd include The Final Cut in the "Waters by himself" category.

best Floyd albums were the later ones (Animals is easily my favorite)

Animals is a highly underrated Floyd album. Although it is second to Wish You Were Here in my own list of favorite Floyd albums, I really like it, and I feel that some of David Gilmour's best guitar work is on Animals, particularly on Pigs (Three Different Ones), where he plays the same riff over and over, but never plays it exactly the same way twice. I also like Meddle, Atom Heart Mother (which is available on CD...my son has it), and, of course, Dark Side of the Moon.

I am waiting for the day when the whole Floyd catalogue gets the same SACD treatment as Dark Side..

If you want depressing, look no futher that "Time"...

And you run and you run
to keep up with the sun, but it's sinking

and racing around
to come up behind you again

the sun is the same in a relative way
but you're older

shorter of breath
and one day closer to death...

It's still one of my favorite songs of all time.

I like Floyd, but I think I just don't concentrate on the words as much as everyone else here. I never thought of it as depressing, more of just great mellow music to listen to to relax me. Something that is good to play driving down the road with the windows down on a beautiful day. Now that I see the lyrics to that part of Time in print though, I can see why you'd be depressed by it.

Don't listen to the lyrics??? You're missing 50% of the music!

and if i show you my dark side
will you still hold me tonight?
and if i open my heart to you
and show you my weak side
what would you do?
would you sell your story to rolling stone?
would you take the children away
and leave me all alone
and smile in reassurance
as you whisper down the phone?
would you send me packing
or would you take me home?

For long you'll live and high you'll fly, for smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, for all you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be

I listened to those two new songs (thanks for the post btw!) oh roger, what have you and maggie done now? I have been waiting for his new album that was supposed to be coming out, unfortunatly if its like this it might get spun once and thats it!

The Final Cut is by far my favorite floyd album, and yes, listening to the words and the emotion in the song is a must. It seems like most of the songs tell a story, and the story progressed through the album this is what i like about floyd and rogers music most bands dont write like that, theyre just looking for 1 hit wonders

I have to second the vote for The Final Cut. It is the one album that Watters realy pours his heart out.

Anyone heard the remastered The Final Cut that includes "When the Tigers Broke Free"? The audio quality on the remaster is supposed to be amazing.

agreed. my 2 favorites also. Animals has so many impressive transitioins, it is hard to believe.

But, I put in Wish you were here, and was driving accross the 7 mile bridge to Key West with the sun coming up, and I got to tell you that first track, Shine on you Crazy Dimond just blew me a way on that drive to the Keys, UFB.

What up with the naming convention though> Part 1 threw 11??? Anyone know why they did that?
