High-end cable manufacturer gets raided by police, products seized:

http://www.avrev.com/news/0904/13.tara.html

Choice quote:

"AV industry icons like Noel Lee, founder of Monster Cable, and Karen Sumner, president of Transparent cable, along with others, have spent millions marketing and teaching the importance of cables for mid-to-high-level AV systems. Critics say cables make no difference in an AV system, but they are wrong. Hopefully, the Tara Labs scandal will not taint the consumers’ view on the need for high-performance cables in home theater systems."

Nice blanket statement... journalism at its finest.

Jerry Del Colliano says he has never eaten human embryos to try to slow the aging process, but he is wrong.

Cap'n Pickard, is it libel or slander in writing?

Peter, when I read your post I immediately went to the Tara Labs site to check and found that they proudly displayed the trademark "The Cable Technology Leader"TM. If they were granted a trademark it has to be true, doesn't it?(e.g. "Bose, The Most Respected Name In Sound"). I also read of their extensive research activities and special manufacturing processes that certainly would justify the hundreds or thousands of dollars that they charge for a cable. So, it's ridiculous to think that they instead are importing these things from China for about 97 cents each isn't it? Another example of over-zealous prosecution of those who seek only to benefit humanity.

Bren, without extra charge, be advised that written defamation of an individual's character is libel and done orally it's slander. Of course, truth is a defense.

I received a Tara Labs digital coax cable free with the purchase of my NAD receiver, so I gave it a try. I thought it added more depth, realism, warmth, spacialness, musicality and glow to all of my CDs. Turns out I was wrong. Now I realize it just sounds Chinese.

Not much of a surprise.
Leaves little doubt about how the cable makers skirt the line of truth and lies (aka marketing).
I wonder how so many Tara Labs users now believe their cables sound... cheap and tinny perhaps?

Bren,

Libel is in print; slander is spoken - both are defamation.

I actually do have a couple of their cables. They seem quite well made, and definitely serve the purpose of a coaxial digital cable. I found it very funny, though, that the cables are marked with arrows indicating the proper direction in which to use the cable (e.g. arrows should point out from the DVD player and into the receiver). I was unaware that electrons could be so well trained.

Mine pogo through the cable... good for punk, but I'd need some of those specialty line-dancing electrons for country to sound right.
