I keep reading about people "having to get out for a round of disc golf" here. Never heard of it... can someone fill me in ? Is it a game played exclusively with Axiom packing materials or something like that ?

AH, no, no... that made me laugh.. i am picturing us running around a field, throwing bubble packaging into the air.. funny!!

disc golf is.... well...., its golf played with frisbees. basically, you set up wire baskets at different points in a park, or field. those are the holes. you have par 3's, 4's, and 5's.. then, you get at the tee box, and chunk your frisbee towards the basket, like driving the ball.. the goal is to get the frisbee in the basket in as few throws possible.. just like golf. you have different discs that are designed to fly straight, or curve left or right, or do an S pattern in case you ned to swing around some trees.. and there are smaller, heavier discs that are called putters, used for when you are close to the hole(basket).. its a lot of fun, and great exercise.

and you can carry beer on the course with you.. so what could be better than that. gettin' some exercise, and drinking some beer!! awesome...

Isn't that like "frolf"? The same game that George Costanza wanted to play in Central Park?

i never saw that episode, but you could call if frolf it you wanted to. you might get some strange looks from disc golfers.. heck, when i first started playing, i used to say "frisbee golf", and the hardcore guys would get mad. they would snap back, "this is disc golf!!! a frisbee is what kids throw around in the backyard"... ?

OK, whatever.. regardless of what you call it, its lots of fun.

We have a disc golf club at U of M and everybody in it wears tie-dye t-shirts for some reason. Also, I've noticed that there seems to be a substantial overlap between that organization and the local chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. Now, I'm not saying that everyone who plays disc golf tokes the reefer, but "getting out to play disc golf" could almost be a euphemism for taking a bong rip

i thought they were supposed to teach you how to be 'politically correct', and not use stereotypes once you get to college?

on my last round of disc golf, i had a six pack of bud light, and nothing else. now, i cant say the same for the other guys on the course.

Disc golf is what the stoners take up when they get sick of running around playing Ultimate Frisbee.

We had a frisbee golf course on our college campus. We used it on the tennis team to cross train, running from shot to shot. Great fun.

I just came in from playing a round o disc. Finished 2 under on a course that I usually finish 3 over on, COOL! All the " kids" that lost tonight couldnt believe that disc golf had been around for at least 20 years (when I started playing). Most people seem to think the game has only been around 5 or 10 years.
BTW, I had only 2 beers after the game and very little of anything else during the game.

It's also a good use for Nickelback CDs.
