I just purchased a pair of M40 Speakers. Since they are being used in a room with a hardfloor, I used the black plastic feet which were enclosed. Would I gain any appreciable benefit if I used the spikes instead? I have heard you can avoid damage by simply placing coins under the spikes.

The spikes are designed for use with carpeted floors and the plastic feet for hard floors. Both isolate the speakers from the floor. It is possible that the bass response will be affected by changing your plastic feet for the spikes but this is very room dependent and not likely to make any significant difference. The only way to know for sure is to try it and see what happens in your room.
