I am seriously considering going with Axiom speakers, the question now is which ones?
My room will be approx. 35x16 with the screen centered along one of the long walls. I have been looking at the M60's, Q8's, vp150. I would need to get a sub later, can't afford everything. Would the Q8's work if placed on the wall behind the listening area? Has anyone tried the factory second speakers and if so have they been acceptable? Thanks for everyones help

if you have regular 8ft ceilings, then the M60's will be fine for that room. that would give you under 5000 cuft, and the 60's can fill that with no prob.

the combination of speakers you mentioned, is very common. they match up very well, and when pushed with a good receiver, have plenty of volume to spare. the QS8's would be fine placed on the wall behind the listening area. typically, you want the surrounds to the side, but every room has its limitations. i know there are several people in here that have the surrounds on the rear wall, and they have no complaints. i would have no reservations about that.

dont end up compromising on your sub.. that is a pretty good sized room, so you will need a sub. to experience the LFE's in most movies, a sub as an absolute requirement. make sure that when you do purchase one, that it has the power to cover the whole room.. may i suggest HSU or SVS brands.. the new axiom EP500 and 600 are nice, but VERY expensive, and it appears that budget is a concern... it is for most of us.

the 60's, 150, and QS8's would be great in that space, and i think you would extremely pleased with them. pull the trigger!!

You will likely get a lot of responses to your questions, but for the question of “which ones” I would advise you to call Axiom. They will recommend the best option to you (not try to up sell you). Several people have commented they were told to get the next speaker down (in price not quality) as they would better fit their needs.

Concerning the QS8 speakers. I have them right behind my listening area about 3 feet above ear level. They are, in a word Fantastic. They are most likely the most forgiving surrounds you can find.

There are several folks who have ordered from the factory seconds and been very very happy with their speakers. Most have found no flaws in their 2nds.

That is the exact same set up Im looking at getting in a matter of days with a 19x11 room. Ive heard the system and it is amazing, to say the least. As for a sub, I have my 4yo Definitive Technology PF15 (350watts) that has served me quite well up for grabs. This thing rattles many pictures throughout my apt.

Thanks for all of the responses. I am hoping to get an svs sub soon after the rest of the speakers. The room is still unfinished and so I should have time to save up for the sub while the project is ongoing. I want to get the speakers sooner though, so that the wife won't change her mind later on when the basement project exceeds the current budget, which is almost a certainty.

What are thoughts on the QS4's vs. the QS8's
and the vp100 vs. the vp150
Everything will be going in a large room, but I'm definitely not an audiophile and not super picky. The only reason I ask is that the money I save goes towards the sub

Mark the calendars, boys... Bren's suggesting the QS8s over the QS4s for once.

For your size room - go with the big guns. And I never ever say that.

I have the QS4's and am now wanting the 8's. Not sure what to do with the 4's though.

The people at Axiom agreed with all of you. Alas, the sub may have to wait until after X-mas, now I just need to get my butt in gear and finish the room.

Not sure what sub you are leaning towards but both HSU (less $$) and SVS have B stock. Could save you about 20%

Stu, welcome. As far as the positioning of the QSs, as you may know a common suggestion is about 6' up on the side walls and slightly behind the seating position. With your room setup it will be fine to mount them on the back wall and widely separated; not almost to the sidewalls, since the room is so wide, but separated at least 15' and possibly 20', since they are side surounds, not back surrounds.

How do you get information on their b-stock? I am going to go with factory second Axioms, and I am really leaning towards an SVS PCi 20-39 for my setup, but if I can save a few buck, even better...

Duh... Right there on the left side of their web page....

Of course, they have very little available for b-stock.

Right now they have a couple of non-powered subs available for about 10% off...

I have the SVS 20-39 PCi and it THUMPS!!!! The people at the SVS board on hometheaterspot tried to tell me to go w/ the plus series, that it has more headroom, but I am not an audiophile and figured the PCi would be enough for me and BOY WAS I RIGHT!!! WOW....I can't believe the bass that comes from this thing...and I really can't believe people get two or three of the subs that are twice as much as this one!!!

Anyone thinking of getting an SVS and are on the fence about what series to go w/.... believe me..the PCi will THUMP w/ the best of them!!!

Thanks for the svs review, I think that is just what I needed to help me decide. I'm not a true audiophile either and the pci should be plenty.
