Hi everyone,

I'm basically trying to get the best possible sound out of this combination with my receiver settings. Unfortunately i don't understand what i'm looking at!

First Of all, my setup: vp150 (center), m22ti's (mains), qs8's (surrounds), svs 20-39pci (sub), sony strDe-845 (100W X 5).

Anyway, I can set the frequencies with this receiver for treble, mid, and bass.

For Treble, i can set it from: 1khz to 10khz.
For Mid, i can set it from: 500hz to 5khz.
For Bass, i can set it from: 100hz to 1khz.

my question is "What should I set it at?" Also, what does that mean? is a lower number = more bass?

I can also set the subwoofer LFE from -20db to -0db. What's the recommended settings for this sub?

I welcome any feedback as i'm basically a newbie to HT.

Thanks,
peteswrx

First off Wecome aboard,

Can you set the reciever to not boost any of the freqencies any just run them flat? If so that is what I would recommend to do.

As far as the sub setting start in the middle and see how the sub responds and adjust it from there if need be.

Thanks Rick, this is a great source of information. I'm starting to like axiom owners more and more...

I don't think I have the ability to disable the boost. However, would setting the treble to 1khz, the mid to 500hz, and the bass to 100hz do the same thing?

Hello pete

If you have a gain control on your subwoofer for LFE, I would set the LFE to 0db, but I believe for Sony this means reference level output - really loud, so I would start by setting your sub's LFE control at a very low level and then work your way up.

I don't think those frequency options are to boost the signal, but rather have to do with frequency cut offs, though it is a bit confusing. Did you get a manual with your Sony? If so, let us know what these settings are supposed to do. I think the M22s drop off at 80 Hz, and the x-over from the mid woofers to the tweeter is at 2,700-3,000 Hz (2.7 - 3.0 KHz).

WRX, sweet ride! Manual transmission, I hope.

The freqencies as stated above are related to an eq on the Sony.I just read the manual and you can run the reciever with the eq off. That should give you a flat responce, you should just leave the eq off and and you will be fine.

Also in the manual it suggest to start with 0db on the LFE and adjust it as needed.

excellent! You are correct. by the way, where did you get the manual? i've been scouring my house for the past 10 minutes and my wife thinks i'm nuts.

yes, the wrx is manual (of course). however i'm going to lose 'coolness' points here because my wife drives it. I'll take my '99 Suzuki Bandit 1200 piped & jetted any day!!

Pete, I'd agree with Rick's analysis. The LFE should be left at the base 0 setting. The bass, mid and treble controls are simply tone controls like the common bass and treble controls but having a much wider variety of adjustments. In general they should be left at the flat position unless you have a good reason to do otherwise. One situation that might call for adjustment would be with some pop recordings which are "hot", with an elevated response in the upper mids/lower treble around 2000-6000Hz. Although this is meant to sound more impressive on mediocre speakers, on accurate speakers such as Axioms, this sometimes brings complaints about "brightness". If you have any recordngs like that you could experiment with applying a few dB of cut to them in that frequency range.
