Hi, everybody!
My name is Octavian.I am 55 years old and I love (good) music and movies.TWO years ago I began looking for a new set of speakers, to replace my 9 year old Acoustic Profiles system). I discovered Axiom by chance(Internet) and I started to read this forum daily. That's why I dare to consider myself part of this nice big family. You can imagine that I've learned a lot from all of you.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my grattitude and to thank you all!You are really nice people and it was a great pleasure for me to read this forum.
I always told my wife how much I like Axiom-from products to customer service to this forum. One month ago I started to finish the basement. When we had to decide the surrounds' placement I told my wife that I will use Axioms' FMB.She agreed and I got them delivered the next day, along with 2 emails from Amie!
Two days later, my wifw asked me:"-I would like to make you a Christmas present, what about ...a set of Axiom speakers?"
...You can imagine my shock and joy!
On November 13(lucky number for me!) I ordered M60,VP150,QS8-Factory Outlet, all in black(my David 302 sub is black). They should arrive just before Christmas. You all know what this waiting period mean...
Again, the same amazing customer service.
I was verry satisfied with the Acoustic Profiles, but after all I've read on this board I am 99% confident that I will die with this set of speakers!
Thank you all again!
Regards,
Octavian
P.S.My home will always be open for an audition.(Whitby,Ontario-30Km. East of Toronto,HWY 401)

Warm welcome, Octavian! Thank you for the kind words.

I am sure you will enjoy your speakers. I have a similar setup and could not be happier.

Please do report back and share your impressions after you have a chance to enjoy your new system.

Welcome aboard. Like you, I ordered M60, VP100 and QS4 just before Nov 15. Mine is light maple with black grille. Still waiting. I think we may organize a greater Toronto chapter so to share our experience. I'm in North East Scarborugh. I know some of us are from this area.

Enjoy.

Thank you romeo!
Sure, we should change impressions or even meet sometimes...I did not know that there are so many Axiom owners so close to my location, I did not see them in the specific area of this forum, the closest one that I found was in Barrie. Why did you go with VP 100/QS 4 instead of 150/8 ?(my room is 25/13/8, I sit 12-13 feet in front of the TV).
Regards,
Octavian

Jsut a figure of speech. Jack (Ajax) and I are generally regarded as the "old guys" around here and it will be nice to have another comrade-in-age. Also, Jack is MUCH older and tends to nap & drool alot, so somebody has to speak for him.

Thanks Ray, I got it! Anyway, good for my age, I (almost) knew you're talking about Ajax from this forum .
Regarding the "old"(age), remember that it is your spirit that is young (or old)...and do not despair, we have the music...and THE AXIOM!

Octavian

Well, if it's your spirit that is young or old, I'm in DEEP trouble!

Welcome Octavian! While I do nap a lot (I just woke up from my morning nap. I wanted to be rested and ready for my afternoon nap), Ray spends much more money on Depends than I do.

Boy! With Ray, and me, and Koiman, and now Pizoni, all you young guys, like TomTuttle, better watch your step.

Maybe we should make an "old man" area on the boards, where us youngsters can only read and not post.

WELCOME Octavian!!!!
Hope you enjoy your Axioms as much as I enjoy mine.

Jack, who are you calling "young"? Since I've learned so much from you and Ray, I sort of think of myself as an honorary old fart. (I'm 41, btw - much older than some of the actual whippersnappers around here).

I like it that we are all united by our preference for high fidelity, regardless of our other differences. It is actually a great testament to the power of diversity. E Pluribus Unum and all that.

Octavian, I think that, for your fairly large room, you made the right choice of speakers.

Some of us may be better categorized as "Whipperfarts"...not young enough to be considered a "Whippersnapper" but not old enough to be an "Old Fart".

Then again, maybe "Old Snapper" would be a better term...

I turn 44 on Friday the 26th.

WARNING! With all due apologies. [philosophical rant]

Octavian, if you haven't already figured it out, you will soon learn that there is a lot of kidding, in good fun, that goes on around here. Sometimes it's not easy to tell if a comment is serious, or tongue in cheek. It's very difficult to discern meaning in the written word alone, without the benefit of voice inflection and facial expressions. That's why there are so many of these: , etc. They help compensate for the lack of those indicators that are missing in just the written word.

Should you run across a comment that is confusing in it's intent, I humbly suggest that, if possible, you assume the best rather than being offended or angered.

As far as "age" goes, I don't mind in the least being kidded about mine, whether by an old goat like Ray (that wink means I don't REALLY thing Ray is an old goat), or by the youngsters here on the board. I try very hard not to be concerned about things over which I have no control, age being one of them.

The funny thing about being my age, is that younger people don't understand (I know I didn't understand this of older people when I was young) that, inside, I'm a 19 year old kid, that hasn't figured out how, in heaven's name, he got trapped in this soon-to-be 59 year old body. And should any young person comment on my age with malice, I simply remind them they are going to blink twice, and find themselves as old as I. It's not wise to mock your own future.

I'm also comforted by the knowledge that there is a cycle to every living thing. You're born, you live, you die. This is true for all living things. Anything so universal can't be a bad thing; can't be wrong. So advancing age, and even death itself, doesn't invoke fear or regret for my part.

This "life" thing, i.e. living, is pretty neat. And coming together here, with others, young or old, that share my passion for good music, and good movies, and good equipment to reproduce them both, just adds to the joy of living. A Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I am, indeed, a rich man.

[/Philosophical rant]

I definitely did not mean to give the impression that I was slighting anyone's age...just a play on words.

I would be counted lucky to be included in the "collection of age" (Ray3, Ajax, pizoni, etc) contained on this board.

I tip my hat to the lot of you.

Actually my girlfriend called me an old fart yesterday when I told her I bought a metal detector. She said "Thats an old fart toy".

I think I was born an old fart, and my body is just now starting to catch up. I owned a metal detector when I was 13 years old. Loved it. I've often looked at youngsters (regardless of their actual age) and thought "grow up". You know those PSA commercials on TV for the arts. The one where the boy takes the stick from the dog and puts it in the trash. There's a little bit of me in that kid.

I know what you mean though about being a 19 year old in a 59 year old body. I'm "only" 31, but I swear nothing seems much different then when I was 20 or so. (Well, my feet hurt like a bi&*h when I wake up, and my hair is falling out...but other than that...)

OK...I'm rambling now. See? I told you I was an old fart.

those are cool. really. there is excitement in the mystery of whats in the ground.

2 years ago, one of my buddies was working on a ranch about 15 miles south of town. on the ranch, there used to be a very small community, they think less than 40 people. anyway, there is a small cemetery, and you can make out the foundation of an old building. it was probably the church/school/town hall/etc. my buddy and i rented a detector for a day, and found ALL kinds of stuff. coins, buttons, hair pins, buckles, barrel rings, bullets and bullet casings, and all sorts of forged metal pieces ranging from a few inches long, to one that was almost a foot long.. we think they were pieces of wagons or buggys? in the cemetery we found metal picture frames, and this fancy brass cap that we think was decoration on the top of a cane or umbrella. our best find of the day was an old pistol. it was a small caliber revolver, but the revolver cylinder was missing. but the barrel, cylinder frame, and handle were intact. it was cool as heck.

i never thought i would find it sooo cool. but, we had a great place to find stuff. the detector was going off left and right. it might be a little more boring if it took forever to find something. but, i would highly recommend to do this. i found it to be extremely stimulating.

And they have message boards like this. Well.............
Not quite like this, they seem a little more dry than us. Could it be that theyre old farts?

Steve, NOTHING I had to say was in reference to ANYTHING you, or for that matter, anyone on this forum, has said. I know you well enough to know that the term "old fart" contained no malice. I apparently did a bad job of making my point in that rant. Some seem very concerned that it was caused by my being offended by comments here on the forum. In NO WAY has anyone here offended me by kidding me about my age, or, for that matter, ribbing me about anything else. And again, I AM an old fart. Blame my parents. They fooled around early in 1945 and here I am. I had NOTHING to do with it!

Folks,

Talk about a thread hijacking!!! In general, I believe farts are underrated and rank as one of God's finest small pleasures bestowed on mankind. My wife does not share that viewpoint.

>>In general, I believe farts are underrated and rank as one of God's finest small pleasures

With apologies to Octavian (welcome to the club by the way !!) for even participating in this discussion, I think that really depends on the direction of gas flow.

I, for example, have two small gassy dogs (at least after eating beef or venison) and do not find farts to be underrated at all. I would rate them considerably lower if anyone were to ask, particularly right now sitting at the keyboard with full, happy dogs sleeping on my feet and the occasional gas cloud floating up from the dogs.

Octavian has left the building. He's cancelled his Axiom order, and he now will only listen to pop music.

Welcome, welcome, welcome. We have a good group of (mostly) nice and helpful folks. Especially when it comes to encouraging others to spend their money.

I would, however suggest that you hold your nose for the time being.

Can't you smell that smell?

I find the best laugh is when I slip the "silent deadly" in the car on the wife. The key to this whole maneuver is to slowly, paying close attention that you are not spotted, reach over and snap the window locks to the locked setting. Twist the heat knob to the highest so that you get a good warmth in the car. Then, like you were old Saint Nick, start to whistle a tune as you wait for the cursing to start.

Ooooooooh... I missed out on all the bathroom humour fun!

Oh well, I guess I just have to take it a step lower. A favorite standby.

And pizoni that is one awesome system you've got coming! Welcome and I'm looking forward to hearing how it all works out for you.

Cheers, Jag

Yes I admit it is somewhat disgusting. But given the direction the thread was going... Well perhaps I took it too far. If so apologies to all and in particular especially to Octavian.

I'd agree though spiffnme, Tom Winkler could certainly do well applying his talents in other areas. Quite the story teller.

Cheers, Jag

Hello!
I like your philosophical approach...
That's why I will always use the"smile" icon on my posts.
I am sorry, but I did not intend to start a new topic by posting my age, I prefer to read and talk about music...and Axiom/other brands products.
I am verry well aware of the nature of the jokes ( and not only!)on this forum, I started reading it TWO years ago, and I did it several times every day, so I am familiar with the atmosphere and with the real meaning...As I said in another reply I am verry open.
Regards,
Octavian

At first, I intended to go for VP150 and QS8. However, as I talked with the Axiom's people, these speaker can go a further level up (better) than VP100 and QS4. After considering my room size, I've a small family room 13 x 13 x 8 which open to the kitchen and budget is also my concern plus HT is not my priority (Stereo music listening comes first), I think I can live with the 'lower' grade center and surround. On top of that, I also ordered two pairs of M22i to ship to Hong Kong for my sister's X'mas present.

That's my reason to save a couple of hundred dollars.
