Wow! Thanks everyone for the great information. I just returned home and poped in Return of the King to test the sub. I cranked it up a bit, not enough to disturb the neighbors, but enough to get full effect. The sub light went from red to green. Maybe, at low volume levels, the LFEs can be handled by the M80s. But at higher outputs, the signals are sent to the sub. I don't know for sure, but it seems logical.

Thanks again!

Ray,
How does it negate the phase knob? That phase control works on the signal being given to the sub. I understand that the receiver can set the sub distance...but if you mess with the phase control on the sub, it will mess it up.....kind of like gain control.

BTW....moving the sub just a few inches can change how the sub sounds at the listening position.

Curtis, Based on your question, I just took a look at the 20-39 PCi manual. Iwas wrong in my initial statement (result of cursory review of the manual yesterday), The crossover switch sholu be set to "disabled", but the phase switch is still operative.

I've been indiscriminately turning the phase knob thinking it had no effect!! That means the solution might be simpler than I thought.

Yeah, I know about sub placement and the difference a few inches can make. That's why I mentioned it. After all the time I spent getting it just right, I should never have moved it.

I'll add the phase knob to my little troubleshooting session tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.

Well, the subwhimper has transformed to subwoofer again!

I checked all of the connections and everything was fine, so I concentrated on placement and those few inches closer into the corner I had moved the sub appear to be the culprit. I moved the sub back out to about 7" away from each wall and found the sweetspot.

Curtis, I adjusted the phase knob and found negligible difference, but thank you for the suggestion.

Managed to get everything squared away in time to provide a 2 hour audition for my guest (who came bearing Guinness!!!). He is a friend of mine (from work) and we have been discussing his desire to do an HT setup for a couple of months. He was appropriately impressed with the Axioms (and blown away by the QS8s) and the sub (he's never had one). He left with a shopping list (Axioms, SVS sub and a Denon 1905) in hand. It was a GOOD day!

FABULOUS Ray! Stuart (expatbrit) and I were just sharing stories of the improvement we experienced by moving our subs along the sidewall, but away from the front wall. Placement is sooooo important.

Thanks Jack! I also used your suggestion from above while I was at it. Added some sub in the receiver settings and reduced the gain on the sub itself. Worked very nicely.
