alright y'all, see if you follow me on this one. putting in the new system in my living room and i need to put the sub in the back corner of the room. well, since i dont feel like selling my first born to pay for a 35 ft. superwhamadyne sub cable, i gumshoe it down to the home depot and get a RG6 coax cable (50 ft.) and some RG6-RCA adapters. well turns out the adapters didnt make that great a connection so i cut the RG6 conns. off and put some screw-on RCAs on. sounds good so far. so now i pose this question, is my logic flawed that this is smart way to do this since: a-it works and b-it's cheap. and am i just too miserly for a system i just plunked $3300 into to drop some on cable?

Sounds like a good plan to me. I think the real question is this: "Does it work?" Yes!

In some cases, cheap is good.

Hooked up, but I'm ashamed to say it hasn't been used for months...

s'alright, you cant be expected to use an antique like that everyday. but if it does break, you could probably go to the neighborhood radio shack and get the parts to fix it!

I don't know about that... I ended up getting rid of two broken ones before I got this working one. I have little to no skill with electronics!

Ash, actually by my standards you were wildly extravagant on that cable!; didn't need RG6, RG59 would've been fine.

If it works, great, but if for any reason you want to buy a subwoofer cable, you likely can't do better than getting one from Blue Jeans Cable Their 35' sub cable is $50.

I was thinking the same thing when I had to put my sub 35 feet away from my receiver. I did exactly the same thing. Then, I started to have all kinds of problems. It might have been because I had a short somewhere, but I don't know for sure.

Well, i was introduced to Blue Jean Cables and purchased their 35 foot sub cable for 50.00. It made all the difference in the world. I was EXTREMELY impressed with ther performance of subwoofer now. It might have been all mental, but I could hear a difference. I worked for Circuit City for 7 years, 4 of the years I was a manager. So, I was "programed" to believe that Monster Cable was the "best" choice out there.

After purchasing the subwoofer cable, I made a second order and have replaced all my connections with there cables!

Ash - Actually, what you've done is what most people building home theaters do in order to run cabling for the sub in-wall between outlets. Just curious, where did you get your terminations? I am finishing up my theater right now and have to pick up a couple of them

Turbo

I did the same thing recently. I bought the RCA terminations at Radio Shack. The RCA connection will have a female coxial connection on the back.

turbo-i got the screw-on/squeeze-on RCA terminations at Radioshack. I think RCA makes them, theyre only like 7 bucks or something. you have to make sure to strip enough of the shielding away to leave a long enough "pin" (center conductor) to make good contact in the plug.
