I've got a Yamaha RX-V1400 and a pair of M50. My amp is 7.1 and i'm planning on buying 5 M3ti to complete my setup because my little Jbl's don't do the job anymore...

What do you thing about it? Is a M3 as a center is ok?

Hi Melomann,

The tonal balance of the M3ti is very close to that of the M50s, and it will work fine as a center as long as you aren't in a really big room at a listening distance greater than about 10 or 12 feet.

If you are in a big room/greater listening distance, you would be better advised to go with a VP150.

Thanks Alan!! My room is not so big, like 10x20x9 so it will be ok i think

Do you think that direct speakers (M3ti) will do the trick for both the back and the surrround speakers. Note that i listen to music as much as i listen to movies.

And i'm wondering if my amp will be able to do a god job with all seven speakers in action... Axiom speakers are suppose to be very efficient... I usually listen to music between -10dB to 1dB

Hi there, Melomann;

I'm kinda in the same situation you are: I'm currently using three M3s across the front, and having really good luck with an M3 as center. I'll be getting a new receiver soon with 7.1 capabilities and am planning on using four M3s in back as well.-So if it dosen't work, we'll both fail together-lol.

Alan, of course did it again-good advice at a bad time-I'm sitting at twelve feet and change in a 3900 cu.ft. room.(which is why I'm getting a new receiver and towers) So while I'm happy with the M3 as a center today, I do know that the M3 does occasionaly sound a little strained if pushed a Bit Too Hard in this new room. I never found that to be the case in the old house with a more average sized listening room. So Alans' advice on the VP150 is something I'll be taking very seriously-Thank you Alan!

But Yes: I agree that the M3 makes a very good center-there are lots of us using bookshelfs as centers with good results.

Melo,

You'll be OK with the M3ti as a center in that size of room.

If you sit in the sweet spot between the two main surrounds (at the sides), the M3ti's will be fine as surround speakers (and at the back). However, if you or others are sitting in different locations in the room (out of the sweet spot), the QS4s or QS8s will deliver a much greater sense of envelopment in the surround soundfield with movies and with music. I prefer them for both music and soundtrack applications but certainly there isn't absolute agreement on this. Movie soundtracks are mixed with multipolar-type surrounds whereas music-only DVD-A and SACD mixing sessions are done with directional speakers.

Your Yamaha will be fine driving the combination of all seven speakers.

Glad to hear it, Jerry.

Please do let us know what you think when you get them, and try to send pictures of your system if you can!
