There was another NIN thread here a while back, but it is easier to start a new one then dig that up. As NIN fans know, the album comes out 5/3. However, there are now tour dates being released as well. For example, NIN will be in Philly on 5/18 and 5/19. I am planning on going to the 5/19 show. Tickets go on sale soon.

yea, i wanted to see them real bad on this tour, but the closest they are playing to me is in austin on a wednesday night. its just real hard for me to have to miss one, possibly two days of work, and have to get a hotel room/food/gas/etc. and all that, just to see a concert. that would be a hard sell to my wife. but i am sure it will be a fantastic show, trent never disappoints. i even pulled out my 'broken' album this past week and gave it a listen. hadn't listened to it in a couple of years. good stuff.

i was also wanting to see mudvayne on tour this spring/summer, but they dont even have any dates in texas..? whats up with that..? but, rumor mill says that SOAD is supposed to tour this summer, and they always swing thru texas. lets just hope its on a weekend!!

I'm sure there will be more dates coming still. What has been released so far for the US is a pretty small list. It looks like Trent is doing the bunch of cities already posted, then heading to Europe for a while. I'm sure he'll be back to do more of the US later in the year.

Thanks for the heads up. I live in SF so I'm going to try to get tickets to either show at the Warfield.

Anyone heard any of the album yet?

two tracks have leaked to the internet. I have listened to them and am so far unimpressed. Not sure if I'll buy the new album but I'll likely catch the tour.

Trent has posted his thoughts on the songs leaking at his site www.nin.com (click on ACCESS)

there is also a sound clip on the website that doesn't sound particularly appealing.

I hope the album is better and that the two leaked tracks are the two worst ones on the album. I have been a NIN fan for about 13 years.

I'm waiting until it comes out on 5/3 to give it a listen. I'll pass on the leaked tracks and get it in SACD the day it comes out.

Didn't know it was coming out in SACD at the same time.

I'll give it a listen but I'm highly skeptical.

May is far away anyway

That's what I hear anyway...we'll see. I tried to get pre sales tickets today right at 4pm when they went on sale. It was online only and I couldn't get the page to load quick enough...their server was getting pounded. I finally got in and they were sold out. Hopefully I will have better luck with the regular sale on Friday.

there is a third leaked track, Getting Smaller. It's even worst than the other two.

i hope this is all some kind of a joke.

What don't you like about them? Too hard, soft, rough sounding, poor quality? Which other album are they most similar to?

Haven't heard them, but Trent is pissed off about the tracks leaking because they're not at CD quality and therefore, not the kind of first impression he'd want to make. So the tracks aren't fake.

Anyway, are you surprised? His last real new song that I can recall was the abysmal "Deep" from the Tomb Raider soundtrack. Sounded exactly like a man out of ideas.

These tracks are about as good as 'Deep'.

Zarak, they are essentially pop rock. It's not the fact that they are somewhat upbeat that bothers me. I listen to a lot of music that has a good, upbeat sound to it. It's the sound that is just pop, boring, and the lyrics are quite bad as well.

I'm generally like a kid in a candy store when a new NIN track comes out, but this time, just as with Deep, I am very turned off. I don't listen to them except when I feel like laughing at them or try again to understand what the heck Trent is trying to accomplish.

Two of the three leaks are CD quality rips, one is off the radio. if you want them, email me at:

ravimontreal@yahoo.ca

trent's hayday seems to be over. nothing lasts forever.

Well....tickets sold out in minutes all across the east and central time zones. I was on right at 5 when they went onsale and couldn't even get one ticket. I'm not that excited about paying a ticket agency about $150 for a ticket when they were on sale for $30 today. If I knew for sure that NIN would be back in philly later in the tour I would just wait. Unfortunately, all dates haven't been posted. Someone really needs to invent away to get scalpers and agencies from buying up all the tickets.

damn that's bad
and you know the scalpers are going to sell them for $150 a pop.
are there any cities nearby they are playing at you can just drive to? they must be playing in DC or baltimore, or NYC.

have you ever seen them before? it's an absolute treat. the are the best live band i have ever seen. i saw them on the fragility 2.0 tour. best show of my life.

Every show in the East and Central time zone sold out in minutes. I have never seen them and they would be the band I would most want to see out of any band that is currently active. I've gotta try to dig up a ticket somewhere. I don't even care if I am going by myself.

Tried to get NYC tickets, no go. But then, I have to admit my enthusiasm is waning for this.

Despite the fact that I'd like to see them again, I am almost releived that they are not coming to Montreal (I don;t know why they aren't, they sold out their last show). The reason being that IF those leaked tracks are real, I don't feel like seeing / hearing them played live. They'd kind of ruin the concert experience for me.

I'll wait till the album comes out to pass my final judgement, but I wouldn't be pissed if they skipped my town this year.
I can always buy the DVD when it comes out

I've heard (the first?) two songs and I have to say they aren't THAT bad. "the line begins to blur" is actually pretty sweet IMO. I really can't think of anything Trent has done that I thought was terrible.

Getting Smaller sounds like a bad rip off og Burn

The end of The Hand That Feeds is really cheesy

The Line Begins to Blur is boring and gets on my nerves. It doens't make me wanna listen to it.

This is, of course, my own personal taste.

I'm sure these leaks may not be final versions and it will sound better on the CD when it's out.

time wil tell

Ravi,

Are the songs like ones on "Pretty Hate Machine"? I think that's Trent's "poppiest" album to date. It's a bit dated, but it's still one of my favorites.

PHM and The Fragile are my two favs of his, so if this new one is more in that direction as opposed to TDS, which to me is his worst, I should like it.

Based on the three tracks out there, if they're representative of the whole, they're more like his track "Deep" on the Tomb Raider soundtrack.

In other words, it's nothing at all like PHM or The Fragile If I had to pick a track on The Fragile to compare them to, I guess I'd have to pick... "No You Don't." But "No You Don't" is not that much like any of the new tracks, and IMO at least, "No You Don't" is better (though by no means one of my highlights from The Fragile).

But even if the three tracks out there are the final versions of the songs, that's still only three out of 13. In other words, nearly 80% of the album hasn't been heard yet. It could be great.

Not trying to rub it in to those who were trying to get tickets but didn't. Somehow a buddy of mine managed to get 4 for the 19th show in Philly. We both struck out during the pre-sale. When they went on sale to the public my buddy went to a ticket master booth in a mall and I stayed on line. I struck out again online but my buddy was first in line. Like I said he got 4 tickets and by the time his transaction was done they had sold out. Nobody else in line got tickets.

I haven't heard any of the releases of the new material. I was kinda bummed after reading some of the posts in this thread. I saw them in 2000 for the first time and thought they were excellent.

I agree %100 with Engine Joe's description of the new tracks. They're essentially a lot like 'Deep', which imo is total crap. I had actually forgotten that track existed until my friend told me he found the new tracks to suck like Deep.

Let me put it this way. I have the three tracks on my hard drive, but I have not been enticed, ever, to listen to them again.

Let's just hope the remaining tracks that are unheard are good.

I wonder if he may be releasing a crap album as another attempt to get out of Interscope Records and start his own thing? Who knows...

Sorry Zarak. I think the group of 4 that I'm going with are pretty committed to going. Although one of my friend's claimed that he has seen pairs of NIN tickets for the Philly show going for $350 a pair. Any higher and he might sell all our tickets!
I haven't heard any of the new tracks yet...I'm kind of scared to. Are they really that bad?

No. They aren't gut-wrenchingly awful or wretched. Please don't get overexcited about it. They're just...uninspired sounding. A little dry on ideas. Not up to standards.

Let me put it this way - if it wasn't so very obviously Trent's voice, the songs would be completely interchangable with music by any number of bands in the genre. They lack distinction.

Go ahead, track the mp3s down and give them a listen. They're probably not as bad as you're afraid they are. Though I would be surprised if you really liked them.

Brief tangent: Trent's complaint about people getting a "bad first impression" of the new music because they're supposedly low-quality mp3s strikes me as a bit of a smokescreen. One of the three tracks, sure - ripped from the radio, it's pretty lo-fi. The other two though are 320 kbps mp3s, and thus really just barely shy of CD-audio quality. So long as they're final versions of the songs, that's as good (or as bad) as they get.

I figured that would be the response, but I had to try. If someone backs out for some reason, put me first on your wait list
