Hello all. New to the board and would like some input as to my final choice of speakers. First of all, my room size is 24x12x8. I have a Denon AVR2105, and an Epson projector. My viewing distance is about 12 feet from the screen (pull down approx 8x4). I have 3 choices in mind, 1st is m50+qs8+vp100, 2nd is m50+qs4+vp150 and my 3rd is m60+qs4+vp100. I have a sub, which I will upgrade in the furure. I basically use the system to watch movies. Any and all input would be appreciated. Thanks, Jack.

Yea. I would lean towards JaimeGs suggestion or your 3rd choice.

obviously, you are dealing with a budget that you need to stay under.. IMO, the best set-up for that room would be M60's-QS8's-VP150. but, that is not one of the selections you gave..

i think you would be best suited with M60's, so i would use whatever combo you can put with them. i havent heard the QS4's or the VP 100, but i know i have never heard anyone complain about them.

good luck in building your HT. i think you will be very pleased with which ever axiom speakers you get!!

I vote for either no 1 or no 2!!!(naturally)

I have M50s and simply love them; M50s are good, comfortable, pleasant all around speakers great for Music, TV, and Movies. Nuff Said!

That said, for mostly movies; probably no 3. M60s live for action movies and serious music listening. If cost isn't a major issue, then the VP150 and qs8s' is probably a better bet yet, considering the size of your room.

Welcome Aboard!! You'll get lots more opinions!!
Rich.

Unless I'm mistaken, you haven't heard the M50s, either.

no, and i havent heard you complain about them either..

i cant help it if i am partial to the 60's.. to be honest, i have been really wanting to hear some 22's used as fronts. i think if i was gonna go with a bookshelf, that is what i would get.

As soon as I move into the new house, I will move my current M22's as surrounds into their new duty of mains for the small HT I am going to put upstairs for my son...that is after I get my QS8's for the downstairs greatroom HT.

You can plan a trip to Austin and hear them...

60 - 50 = 10

So the 60s have 10 more than the 50s, right? But 10 what?

Hey Ken, you make a good point; It seems I may have almost recomended the M60s myself, while in reality-I've Not Heard Them, Either! (Thatsa oops) Guess I've just been parroting the comment sentiment.

Gotta watch that...

That would be, like, ten pounds? Like ten bucks more shipping? like ten, um...

50-22=28

Remember, Ken... the 50s are like a siamese twin tall freakish version of the M3s which no one's heard and everyone hates.

Jack, welcome. Being of the M22 persuasion, I'd suggest your 3rd choice, but with a modification. Using a projector allows the use of a vertical speaker beneath the screen, and in your case either a third M60 or an M22 should give excellent results, preferable in my view to a horizontally configured center.

50-22=28

Lets see, take the delta W(in lbs cause I'm in the US where the gram is grim)times the inverse of the square root of 2(these are speakers so we want an RMS value) Then if we subtract the delta SPL corrected to std. day, (OH oh, don't have those numbers, we'll have to estimate-what's the avg temp and barr at NRC?) NO!! We can't DO THAT, accuracy is everything! (YES-you heard that from an M50 owner)

Whereas M22s are an elegant tall version of the M2s, hailing from Thailand, with twice as much bass as the M2s which have zero bass

Add a few guns on top of them and... well, you have guns on speakers.

Odd, that.

So Bren if you sat on top of your Axiom speakers, could you come up with an equally quirky description?

Windy day tomorrow. Leave the hat at home.
