I don't know if there are any other Dave Alvin fans out there, but Mobile Fidelity (yes, they are back) has released Blackjack David on SACD. It is not Multi-Channel, just beautiful stereo.
Sounds very, very nice.

Definitely a fan -- I finally got to meet Dave this summer and have my copy of Museum of Heart signed. Ashgrove hadn't been released yet but he played a lot of songs off the album. Amazing show.

Thread hijack -- does anyone know anything about yourmusic.com? Seems like an awfully good deal, but I want to know what the catch is.

On further investigation, yourmusic.com seems to be the old BMG club.

Easy there Big Guy! No trash talking about Dave!
Have you ever heard Fourth of July by X? He wrote it.
And when Billy Zoom got tossed from X because of the H it was Dave that came to the rescue and filled in for a couple of years. He was also with them on the Knitters album.
And if you want to go back even further, The Blasters were Dave and his brother Phil, and a couple of other great players. They were quickly lost in the fog of the late 70's and early 80's, and then broke up because Dave and Phil kept getting into fights on stage. but now everyone is looking back and crediting them with starting the "Roots Rock" movement, although they will tell you that they were just playing good ole Rock & Roll.
The Blasters got back together for a couple of short tours a couple of years ago, and put out a couple of live albums and a DVD. Incredible stuff. I rode all the way to Boston to catch one of the shows, and they blew the roof off of the place.
And a couple of years back Dave was the lead guitar on one of Dylan's tours.
I've gotten the chance to meet him a few times, and a few years back ended up watching the first game of the Yankees/Mets World Series with him and the band back in the green room at the Rams Head (?) Tavern up in Annapolis.
Great Guy, Incredible Player, and an Amazing Songwriter.
Check his stuff out, he is a National Treasure.

For anyone with more than a passing curiosity in Dave Alvin or The Blasters, this has been on my short list of desert island albums for many years now.

And if you have a couple more bucks to blow
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:o3jiear54xk7
will put it all together for you, and add in a bunch of the live stuff from the early days.

And BTW dmn, how do you do that thing with just the "this" in blue as a link, without posting the whole link? That is a neat trick that I have never learned.

Have you gone out and gotten/listened to the M/F disc that I started this with yet? Another thread got started on the merits of just plain Stero SACD, and more than not seem to be shouting down my opinion that it makes a difference, but I have played the hell out of my old copy of Blackjack, and this one, to me, sounds just incredible. It is already on for the third time tonight.
Well worth the coin.
But then again, I'm such a freak for Dave's stuff that I would buy a remastered SACD of Dave sittin around smokin Marlboroughs if I thought it would put a couple of bucks in his pocket and keep him on the road and in the studio.

Good to know.
I was wondering that myself.
Thanks Ken.
