I just got my 60's last week and love them but I would like to talk to some others that own them and the Elite Receiver to see how to get the most out of your speakers.

The range of my speakers is excellent but before I bought them I had heard some people say that they don't have to use their sub anymore because the bass in the axioms is so good.

Well I am finding that I need to use my sub on everything including music in pro logic II or stereo because the bass doesn't seem to go very deep. I could be just used to hearing a subwoofer but then again I don't know.

Don't get me wrong, I love my m60's. I just want to see if perhaps I need to tweak something to get some deeper bass. Thanks for everyone's help.

Matt

Forgive me for belaboring the obvious, but be sure the 60s are set to "large" in your receiver's speaker menu. If you're already there, disregard the above.

While it's true that the 60s have a decent amount of bass, if you are used to hearing a sub integrated with them, without the sub they can sound pretty weak. I don't listen much without the sub anymore simply because I'm used to getting that nice low bass, and would miss it were it absent. No big deal.

I have an Elite VSX-56txi receiver and by default from factory it is set too "small speakers". You might want to try what Ajax said. Check the menu on your receiver and set it to "Large".

I'm one of the people saying "the bass is good enough that you don't need the sub" but just to be clear that is ONLY for music, not HT, and there are some kinds of music where you're probably going to want a sub anyways.

You do have to set your receiver to use "large" settings for the front speakers when playing music without a sub, or the bass will definitely sound thin and crappy.

I own the 54TX and M60s.. I have a sub, but that is because I am a movie freak.

Audio is good with the M60s and there is a good amount of lower frequencies coming out of the M60s but I have learned that the speakers themselves were more th culpret than the receiver. Just moving the speakers so that they were a foot or so away from the wall (but not too far away) helped with the bass levels.

With that said, the speakers do need to be set to large in the 54TX. They were defaulted to small when I got my 54TX, and after running the MCACC it put them to large, put the manual setting of this is also very easy to do. That helped too.

I almost always listen to audio with the sub on, but not because of something lacking in the M60s but because I like bass, and I listen to music that had a lot of low frequency and bass elements that without a sub wouldn't be there no matter what speakers I was using. I'm not talking rap or anything, but I do like the "feel" I get of the sub. It makes it feel more like being at a concert where the bass is cranked up.

Everyone thank you so much for all of your help. I moved them around a little bit and for music I put them a large but for movies everything sounds better set to small. So I guess a little of both helps. Thanks again guys. I truly appreciate it.

Hey Matt, good luck on your setup. I like you prefer setting my 60's to small, but like to experiment with the receiver's crossover. At 60-80hz your 60's still produce some mighty fine bass

Matt, I believe that when Jack mentioned making sure that the M60s were set large, he meant when you were using them without the sub. Choose what you like best of course, but when using the M60s with the sub on music you should get a bit better result with the M60s set small.

Thanks John. You are indeed correct. I should've made that clearer.
