I have a Yamaha RX-V2300 6.1 Player. My set up is as follows:
M22ti's for Front
VP150 Center (Front)
QS8's Surround
M2i Center (Rear)
EP175 Subwoofer.

I am going to mount the M2i, on a swivel wall mount about 6' high and point it down towrds the listener. I want to Mount the QS8's on the wall as well. My question is where exactly and how high should these be? First do they set in line with the listeners place on the couch? Or slightly behind? With the construction of the QS8's I would assume in line with the listener. Second how high should they be. One manual I saw had them about 3 feet off the floor, this Yamaha Manual has them placed 6' high on the wall!!

No I know there are many types of surround speakers out there, so I am sure Placement varies based on the construction of the speakers. So what's ideal for the QS8?
I ask for a sepcific answer if possible, as It is a real pain to run wire behind an already existing wall! LOL! I would like to only have to do it once! Thanks everyone!

QS8's are supposedly VERY forgiving of placement. That said, the usual suggestion is just to the front or back of the listening position by a hair and up from the positon by 3-4 feet (which is probably 6-7 feet from the ground).

If you can get a couple people to help or use something to hold them in position, you could play with it before running the wire.

I'm in a similar situation. I have two pairs of QS8's one pair sits on the Axiom stands on the sides. The other pair are mounted about a foot in from the sides up near the corners of the rear wall. I'd like to mount the sides on the walls, but one wall forces me to mount it above the window, which would place it about 7 ft off the floor (and of course the other would need to be at the same level).

Any thoughts on how this would sound....(would it be weird) in terms of panning effects etc? Something tells me it might screw up the "front sound stage" I'm using Logic 7 from Lexicon for my surround modes.

Ron

PS: My reason for wall placement is to allow more flexability in seating. The speaker and the stand tend to get in the way.

Ron, as semi pointed out, 7 feet is close to what's commonly suggested and should be fine. Since you're using rear surrounds, the side surrounds probably should be a foot or two in front of the seating position.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Thanks John....I'm going to experiment a little next weekend. As pointed out earlier the QS8's allow a lot of flexability in placement....IMHO, they are the jewel of the axiom line.

I have my side surrounds mounted as you are contemplating. I have only one rear center. The sound isn't weird in this situation with my setup.

Thanks jb for the insight. I'm going to wait to relocate for the new axiom mounts. They maybe available in about 4 weeks from what I've been told (assuming the the new version meets their specs).
