hi everyone,

i bought a dualdisc the other day (the new NIN).

the cd side won't play in my cd player or in my laptop.
any idea as to why?
anyone else have this problem with a dualdisc?
if so, any solutions?

Yes, it is a problem with the disc. The problem is, DualDiscs suck. They're slightly thicker than standard CDs, so they sometimes (usually?) won't play in standard CD players. Aren't software industry driven advances in hardware technology wonderful?

And DualDiscs aren't true Redbook CD's. For some legal reason, they can't make the CD side a true Redbook. Therefore, some players may have difficultly reading the CD side.

Ooh, even better than I thought. Stupid *&#!s.

My brother bought Ben Folds' latest album "Songs for Silverman", which is only available as a DualDisc as far as I know. He was unable to play or rip the CD layer on his Mac Mini, so he had to playthe DVD layer and capture that audio as stereo. Luckily, there's a fantastic app for Macs that makes capturing audio from any source a piece of cake.

I'd be demanding my money back, as with the attempted copy protected CDs, which had similar or worse behavior.

I'm just getting into this "superior" audio game...it's been about 5 days now. So far, no problems.

But it's a learning experience...first, discovering that some DVD-A and SACD's are created using inferior masters, therefore providing NOTHING, except less money in my wallet. Then, finding that not all recordings are in multi-channel. That's not even metioning the extremely limited selection...and the even more "limited" sales people who have no clue what the hell a DVD-A or SACD or DualDisc even is!! ("Duh, do you mean a DVD concert video?"..)

My collection is up to 3...two DualDiscs and one DVD-A. Not even enough to fill up my 5 disc changer.

Well, dualdisc would only be superior if they used the DVD side for DVD-A, instead of putting on a bunch of DVD-V crapola.

My CD side works fine in my car, which is the only place I have tried it. The DVD side works fine in my universal player, which is also the only place I have tried it. This is true for the two DD I have both NIN...TDS and Witha TEETHA
