Thought I should get some feedback from the experts out there on the board. I have an outstanding price available to me for a new Sony Grand Wega LCD 50 Inch T.V. and matching stand. Any comments on this unit? I wasn't really planning to purchase a big screen t.v. right now however the price is too good to pass up. Look forward to the replies.
Cheers,
Shaun

Hi Shaun,

Before I took the easy way out and went with proven ancient technology, I did tons of studying on different TV types and manufacturers.

My absolute first choice for make and model for something other than RPCRT was Sony KDF60WF655. For my situation it was best; size(although 65" would have been better for my size room-the 70" Sony was still old technology and was wildly expensive!)also, the minimal built-in sound and lack of some features that aren't a proven improvement in PQ were good reasons for this model. The price of bulbs is a plus. The on-line reviews and comments by their owners almost matched the enthusiasm of Axiom owners!(almost) I was even measuring to put Three M50s under one!!

Anyway, all the research I accomplished showed that these latest generation Sonys' are an accomplished and highly reguarded group, and, in my opinion at least, could be a very good choice!

Rich.

Hi Rich,
Thanks for the response. I haven't had time to research the t.v. market as I wasn't really planning to buy a new set until later this year. However, these deals pop-up periodically and after consulting with the wife we have decided to go for it.
Cheers,
Shaun

Shaun,

I've had one for just over 2 years. The original purchase was based on a TON of research and I have been very pleased with the unit. I've also kept up with the research since. There are other decent choices out there, but for this particular segment of the TV market, what I've read is that Sony is pretty much regarded as the benchmark.

If you can control yourself a bit longer, the new ones (5th generation) will be available in June/July Part of the model # for the 50" and 60" is "A20". They will offer a dynamic iris (current models use a fixed iris).

There's a long technical expalnation that put me to sleep, but the net is that it will improve details and blacks.

Hi Ray,
Thanks for the feedback. Initially, I was going to wait until the new models came out and then start my search. However, the price I am getting on this 50" is very hard to resist. If I had purchased this t.v. with the matching stand when they were first introduced, the price would be about $2,000 more than what I am paying today. Plus, I can get my Denon receiver, VP100, CD changer, DVD player and VCR in the t.v. stand with room left over for a HD receiver/tuner. Over the years I have purchased electronics and t.v.'s from the store I am dealing with and they always give me great deals! My old 32" Sony is going into the master bedroom and the new Samsung 14" will be relocated to my son's room.
It might be a while now before a pair of QS8's and a sub arrive...
Shaun
