When I was first out of high school, I worked for Sears Portrait Studios for a few years. In that position, you were not only the photographer but the salesperson two weeks later when the prints came back from the lab. There was a special "display" area where you would take the prints out of the bag one by one to let the customer view them... in hopes that someone would be suitably impressed with the larger, "extra" ones and buy more than the promo package.

Once in awhile, when I had a customer that I remembered as being good-natured and not likely to deck me, I would pull out all the photos one by one and place them as I normally would...except upside down. With as much disbelief as I could muster, I would exclaim how sorry I was that the lab accidentally printed the whole order upside down.

It was amazing the number of times people would ask if they could be reprinted or did they need to go through a whole new sitting. ::Evil Laugh::

The unwritten laws of human nature state then when one's curiosity is peeked and they are told not to follow the instinct to investigate = salmon against the current.

I can only wonder who took Bren's caution and did NOT actually Google that word.
I believe FELCH was the 'proper' spelling.

when i was in the military, we used to send newbies(FNG'S) down to supply to get a 'box of grid squares'. keep in mind, for those that know maps, 'grid squares' are just the squares that are created on a map where longitude and latitude lines cross. it creates a suqare onm the map, hence, grid square.. anyway, we would send guys to find a 'box of drid squares', and off they go. the supply sargent, who is in on the joke, tells him that he is all out, but go check with the gunnery sargent. and so on, and so forth. it would never fail, several hours later, the poor new guy would return, looking beaten and confused, trying to explain how he went all over batallion, trying to find a 'box of grid squares'. we all hit the floor as laughter insues..

It would seem the more physical a job, the stronger the hazing. When I worked delivering drywall, we had a forklift operator that would actually try to run us over in the warehouse - though it should be said that he'd spend his day in the forklift seat (his running joke was "good thing I'm driving this thing... I'm too drunk to walk!")...

And the other little presents you'd pass along to the other guys - new guys loading steel studs (they come bundled in nested 10s like so [][][][][], you put your fingers on one hand inside them to carry them). You and your partner have to watch how you put them down, if you drop or throw your end down, the steel shifts like a set of shears and the other guy gets cut, it only happens once, then you learn to put just the tips of your fingers in them so you can let go if need be.

As the front man carrying drywall, nothing shuts up a complaining back man like lifting the bundle up so it hits the header on a door rough opening ("studding" him)... not only is it really hard on his shoulder, but it also forces most of the weight back to him.

And honestly I don't remember the real names of most of the guys I worked with... Doc Boy, Peaches, Cream, Sleazy Rider, Captain Kirk, Sterile Darryl, and my moniker - K-Mart Body Builder (6' 3", 170lbs and arms like Popeye).

Construction is the perfect place for any angry, full of P&V late teenager!
