Oh my God!!!!!

I used my receiver's auto MCACC to adjust the speakers in my room.

My wonderful wife bought me Saving Private Ryan on DVD for Father's Day.

I turned it up to -5 and turned up my SW just a bit!

That first scene was bone chillingly realistic. I thought I was there!!! The walls and couches were shaking with the bombs. I could hear the gunshots firing past my head with the qs8s!

My wife had seen the movie and is a real movie buff. She couldn't believe how involved she felt in the movie!

Are there any other movies with scenes this intense for 5.1???

I just purchased U571. Hopefully I can watch it this week sometime.

Now I just have to find the porn version of Saving Private Ryan called Saving Ryan's Privates!! LOL

Mike

many of us have had similar experiences with the 'saving private ryan' movie. glad you liked it!!

the U-571 will show off your sub. there are some surround effects in it, but it will mainly impress you with its bass.. that is, if you have a good sub..?

a few movies with great surround effects:

any of the 'lord of the rings'
any of the 'harry potter' movies
the 'band of brothers' collection(much like ryan)
the bourne identity
open range
all the 'star wars' movies.

thats a good start.. i am sure you will get more suggestions.

That is exactly why I dove into HT as well. The experience of being there without actually getting shot.

Some excellent DVDs here with good sound & surround effects

I saw the box set for band of brothers at best buy.

What is it? I thought it was a documentary. Does it have battle scenes like Private Ryan???

Band Of Brothers is full of battle scenes. The battle scene where the trees and everything else blown to splinters is almost unbelievable.

You have to have admiration for the soldiers who fought under those conditions.

If you are a history buff or like movies that deal with war, then you really MUST buy Band of Brothers. It is by far the best war movie (actually, it's a mini-series) that I've ever seen.

It's a docu-drama based on real characters and real events. It includes interviews with the actual soldiers who lived through the events depicted in the series. It will excite all your senses. Beware, even the most manly men will shed a few tears before finishing the series.

I borrowed it from a friend a couple years ago and was totally engrossed. I've been meaning to buy the set for myself, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Are the battle scenes as intense as Saving Private Ryan?

If so, I will purchase it this week.

I saw that thread and will look into some of the movies.

Thank you so much

mikie,

My son wanted me to send my copy to him. No way I let this one get out of my hands.

It is a "must have" for your dvd collection.

Yes. The battle scenes are intense, more numerous, and widely varied. You will not be disappointed.

I have Saving Private Ryan DTS edition, and it is a must for auditions.
Kinda hard to find but well worth the search.
