Thanks guys.

I also spoke with Axiom Joe. He said for the right price, that they could still be an OK speaker. Joe said the tweeter is absolutely bulletproof, and the woofer cones are paper, so kinda mixed bag. And apparently, he still has some replacement drivers.

But I think I'm going to go check them out this weekend, just for curiousity sake. By no means am I expecting audiophile quality. Just looking for a good deal...

Well,....They could be a fun piece of Axiom trivia if they're purchased with a realistic attitude!(and for a good price!) Not only that, they Are a form of forum "Bragging Rights"! Of sorts.

And if replacement parts Are available, then Hey! They could really be a "Fun" project at that!

Now lets see, what was the deal here?

My less than adequate memory is questionable, but one of the speakers: The Meraks or Michauras was sold thru canadian Radio Shack, and the other was made for some private guys who had a sales idea, or something, that was ill timed and failed.

I'll have to find out for sure which was which, and what's the deal about them, since I last read about them some four or five years ago. I'd like to know again myself; just for fun!

The Merak's were sold thru Canadian Radio Shacks (I think they stopped about 2 years ago). I found some info on the web that they were being sold new for $130CDN at that time. This guy is asking $120obo...he's gonna have to come WAYYYY down if he wants to make a sale.

At worst, they'll become "garage" speakers or maybe computer speakers. Or I can start my own "Axiom Museum". I already have a pair of M40's!!!

Oooo.....Great idea here!

I could buy a pair of Meraks for the kitchen system; a pair of Michauras for the dining room system; and keep the M50s and M3s in the main system, and when the M50s and M3s are dicontinued, I'd have a ready made Axiom Museum myself!!

That is, if these old dudes can be found for a reasonable price! But hey! They're Museum pieces!!

Hi alou,

Yes, Merak was a low-priced line that Axiom built for Radio Shack Canada, and while the M66s are not in the same league with Axiom's premium line, contrary to 2x6spd's comments, the M66s were surprisingly good performers for a very modest price. Certainly more neutral than anything Radio Shack Canada had sold before or since.

Thanks Alan,

After speaking with Joe, I decided I definitely have to look at them.
