So I've been just about chained to my desk the last 3 weeks during the busy season and ran my CD collection through too many times. Figured I needed some new music, and since Fat Wreck's summer offerings have been weak, I headed out looking to go back in time a bit.

Picked up Rock N Roll Is Here To Stay on the... Newsound? label.
Jerry Lee Lewis, Del Shannon, Ventures, Coasters, Bobby Vee, Duane Eddy, the Juniors, etc doing their signature songs (except the Everly Bros song is "Claudette" and the Elvis song is "There's Good Rockin' Tonight"

This CD should REALLY have mentioned that all songs were performed live, many songs were mastered on CANDLE wax and recorded when the performers were drunk, stoned or dead.

Waste of $5.99.

Also bought the 2 CD The Essential Johnny Cash - got it for a good price and it fills in some of my holes in his music (mainly the stuff with June/the Carter Family) that saved the night's purchases.

I've been wanting to pick up The Essential Johnny Cash cd for a while now. I might run this weekened to get it. The latest cd purchase for me was The very best of the Bee Gees.

Bren,

I thought you were shopping for 'new music.' Some of the stuff you mentioned takes us back to Jack's cloth diaper days. Sorry, Jack. Please pardon wa!

New here being something I don't own on CD... the Cash stuff I probably still have a lot of on vinyl in my parents' basement... the rock & roll stuff would have been in a piece of cassettes I threw out long ago.

My last purchase was the new one by Slayer. This is my first by Slayer so I can't compare to their old stuff. I like this CD. Heavy and very good lyrics. I've only listened to it once because no one can be home when I have it cranked, or even at a low level, which is sacreligeous.

This CD is not for everyone, but good if you want to get out frustrations from work and need something to work-out by

Hehe. I used to listen to slayer when I was in high school. I'd thrash along to classics such as Seasons in the Abyss, Reign In Blood, and South of Heaven.

Morbid, crazy stuff!

Now I'm a classical music lover. Imagine that!

Just added a new one to the collection tonight... Jaylene Johnson's "Finding Beautiful."

Yes, I bought a Christian Contemporary artist's CD.

There are all kinds of good female vocalists... from Cinder Block of Tilt and Retching Red to Unionmaid Anne Feeney to Canadian songstress Anne Murray... but somehow Christian music seems to produce the sweetest voices.

I love some of the old Contemporary Soul and Gospel music, Bebe and Cece Winans were one of my favorites in that genere.

LOL!

I remember taking piano lessons in 1978 from a lady that must have been 75 years old. I was 10, and along with the classical stuff, I got to play some contemporary tunes, like Anne Murray's stuff. I never thought too much about it over the years, but now that I reflect, I don't own any of her music ... or Debbie Boone's ...
