I would expect this will be a yes, but anyone on here done all 3 LOTR in one day? I'm planning it in about a month. I'm thinking starting at 10am with an hour break in between each gets us done around 9pm.

How have others handled it? Did you have a bunch of people over?

I have two other people lined up so far. Might get a couple more. Don't want too many. Everyone needs a prime seat!

About a year ago, Nickbuol did a all day marathon of the extended versions of LOTR. I think it consisted of the following:

Early arrival (of course some people were late)
Breakfast
Movie 1
Lunch
Movie 2
Dinner
Movie 3

It ended up being a very late night.

Lol. That's funny.

If I watched all three LOTR movies in one day with sound booming I think my head would be splitting. May want to include some Aspirin as well.

Sounds like a good time though.

Yup. I did it a year ago. The more people, the more "antsy" after sitting for long periods of time. That means more distractions for the "die hards."

I also found that we needed a break during each of the movies. We would play some arcade games or pinball at the point in which you swap form disc 1 to disc 2 (on the original extended edition anyway).

Comfortable furniture is a MUST. Even furnature that feels comfortable now, will feel like sitting on a block of concrete after about 6 hours, and that is with another whole movie to go.

All in all, it was a good experience, but allow for extra time, as you will find that the longer you are there, the more breaks everyone will want to take.

Also, plan your food accordingly. We did frozen pizza for lunch, which my wife took care of preheating the oven, and throwing it in, etc. That was a huge help. Easier would have been delivered pizza. Something that is easy to eat with paper plates is a plus. Honestly, I don't recall what we did for supper. I know that buffalo wings were in the mix somewhere as well.

Here is a link to the thread about it from September 2005:

I'm thinking pulled pork sandwiches or something else that can go in the crock pot for one of the meals. I can make it all ahead of time and it just sits there warmed in the crock pot for whenever we are ready to eat. Ordering pizza might be the best bet for the other meal.

I figure 10-1 Fellowship. Lunch break until 2. 2-5 TTT, break again for dinner. 6-9 ROTK.

Even if it goes a bit longer with breaks, we should get done by 10 or 11. I don't really want it to go past 11pm.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

We're talking LOTR extra extended versions, correct? How about LOTR-Extended Version WITH Extras and Bonus Discs!!! THAT would be die-hard! Sleeping bags required.

TNT-HD is viewing the trilogy either this weekend or next, from 12PM-12AM.

Yes, we are talking about the extended edition. It looks like the 3 combined clock in at just over 11 hours.

We will not be watching extras and bonus discs. That could be another day all by itself.

I might turn on the TNT one just to see part of it in HD, but wouldn't want to watch the whole thing that way. They are long enough as it is, just gets worse with TNT commercials added in. Do they edit it for TV as well? TNT is not the extended edition, right?

I suggest starting Fellowship of the ring at 9 AM which will be done around 12:45ish.

Break 1 hour for lunch

Start The two towers at 1:45pm which will be done around 5:30pm.

Break 1 hour for supper.

Start Return of the king at 6:30 which will be done around probably 10:30.

...now when your are all done that...

Pop in the Matrix at 11:30 (after the hour break) which will be done around 1:30ish. Hour break.

Pop in Matrix Reloaded at 2:30AM, which will be done around 5AM. Break an hour.

Pop in Reloaded at 6AM, will be done around 8:30AM. You just finished 30 minutes before being up for a day!!!

CONGRATS!
