I am preparing for hooking up my HT once my new Axiom speakers are delivered. I have done some research, but have a few cable questions, thought maybe I'd start here as have been helped so much in all other areas of my HT. I do plan on using component cables for my video connections. As for audio, is where I need help. My receiver is the Yamaha 1400. I was planning on using all digital coaxle, but; 1)My cable tuner supports analog or optical only. 2)My CD changer only supports analog. Is it ok to hook up DVD player using digital coaxle, cable box using digital optical, and cd changer analog, or should I try to make them all the same? Should I at least make the cable box and DVD player both optical? Or does it not matter? Thanks for any advice. Jeff

It doesn't matter. And, BTW, optical is digital. I assume that you mean digital as coaxial digital.

yeah, I understand that coaxle and optical are both digital. I was just curious if I could/should hook up different components using different digital connections. vs making all digital connections the same type. Thanks.

The RX-V1400 has 3 coax S/PDIF inputs. My experience has been that I run out of these quickly (most receivers in this price range give you 1 or 2) ... So use them up and switch some devices to optical if you need to.

Congrats on buying a great receiver!

Perhaps I should have been more clear. It doesn't matter if your connections are of different types. That's why we get receivers with all sorts of inputs!
