Hi all,

I have a big dilemma. I'm looking to upgrade some components of my HT setup. I need a new center (M3) and 2 side surrounds (probably QS4). I currently own a Yamaha RX-V1400 (Receiver), 2 M50 (Front mains), JBL PSW1500 (Subwoofer) 2 polk R10 (Back Surround) and a crappy combo of center and side surrounds (JBL)...

So here's the dilemma. I looked in the classified ads and found that:

2 Energy E:XL-25
1 Energy E:XL-C
2 Energy E:XL-R
1 Energy E:XL-S8

The whole package for 500$ CND

And if i buy an M3 and 2 QS4 from the factory outlet it will cost me 585$ CND

I don't know what to do?

(Sorry for my bad english... :S)

Well, the specs don't look bad, but I think in this case, it may be that you get what you pay for. Now, it doesn't look like you need new mains or a new sub (at least, not comparing the JBL to the little Energy), so why pay for them?

It worth 1800$ new. I think i'll give them a try and resell it if i am not satisfied.

If i am, i'll use my M50 in a stereo setup in my other living room

For what it's worth, I upgraded from e:XL-16s and -C to M60s and VP150 in my media room and the change was not subtle (I still own the Energys and use them in a different room). I find dialog and music to be cripser on the Axioms.

That said, the Energys certainly aren't bad speakers at all.

Which receiver are you using BigScreenBill? And do you think it's a good bang for the buck at 500 CND?

I'm using a Denon 3806 on my Axioms and an Onkyo 575x to power my Energys. I have never used the Onkyo with the Axioms. I did use the Denon with the Energys for a few months - there was some improvement, but not as much as going from the Energys to the Axioms.

I think the Energys @500 CND are a good buy, especially if you have use for the "extra" speakers. The sub isn't much (I have the 10" version), but I'm not familiar with the one you're using right now either.

Thanks Bill.

For the subs, maybe i'll do a combo both are entry level gears... My JBL will go lower but is not tight at all and the Energy is supposed to be tight but will not go below 29Hz...

I'm going to pick them up friday so i'll let you know if i like them or not.
