I've attached a pic of my current set-up, my front speakers are all installed in-wall. I don't have a lot of room in the rear behind the sofa to install speakers and am trying to weigh up what would be better, either the QS8 or go in-wall again to match the clean look of the front.

Would the QS8 be a better fit given it's design for surround and better handle the closeness of the listener, or would there be any argument to get say an M3 or M22 in-wall pair other than due to budget or for aesthetics?

Hobb, as was suggested last year, QSs should be considered for better surround effects, especially because of the close quarters that you're operating in. They should be placed in a similar spot as that motion detector or whatever is now. On the back wall just a few inches from the side wall(and with a similar spread on the other side), and about 2-3' above ear level.

Hobb, i had a room similar to yours at one time.. with 0 room behind the sitting area. I have QS8's, and they worked very well, i think if you went with a m3 or m22 you would be disappointed. the QS's will envelope you, even though you will be directly below them. I would recommend placing them higher than the 2-3' that john talks about though. What is the distance between the back of the couch and the ceiling?

You could e-mail brent or JC with your photo and ask them what they think.

So i went and checked the dimensions and also where my wire is pinned inside. The room height is 88", sofa height 28" and so distance above is 60". My wire is pinned at 70" so would be 18" below the ceiling.

There would be a little room above that as the wire is looped, and would also obviously depend on how big a hole I cut to get the wire out. Given all that do you think the about 70" would work for height or do I need to be doing some extra DIY and aiming to get them higher? Reading the manual for the QS8 I'm hoping 70" would be good. Also as I can hide the hole behind the speaker with the standard bracket I've a little flexibility. WOuld there be any need to order the adjustable bracket or is installing flush ok? (that's maybe a later choice if needed)

My only issue in looking at my notes is that the rear L which is near the window is 24" in from the wall, I think ideally it would be 6-10". Would you agree, I think I looped the wire beside a stud (the manual says to mount the T bracket on a stud) and I'd think there should be another one at 12" (correct?!, I can borrow a stud finder) to check before I start cutting. This might mean some extra DIY on that side to get the wire to the right spot.

On the Rear R I lucked out and got the wire right on the outside of the sofa 98" from the wall, means if I can get the L one to about 10" there would be 88" between - that sound good?

I think that Alex(dakkon)may have misread my suggestion. 3' above ear level would be right about at that 70" you mention, and is plenty high enough.

I did misread Johns post, i missed the "ears" part though 3' above the couch...

As far as the studs go.. Yes that is ideal, and if you look at Ken's QS8 post you will see why....

However!, i used these http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-...catalogId=10053 each one is rated for 75lbs.. I Also have a pair of B&W speakers in my bed room that are on custom made shelves that are using those dry wall anchors as well.

What size of wire are you running, you could probably run a 16 or 14 gauge and be just fine. If your running 12 then the hole will need to be a bit bigger... At my Aunt and Uncles place, the installers made a hole barley large enough for their 16gauge wire to go though, and painted the rest in...

I would just do the flush, the QS speakers have drivers all over the place.. No point in sweating the small stuff, i had my QS8's on speaker stands when i had a room that was small, and in another place, i put my QS8's on top of Arizona tea can's, the cans were unopened though as to not introduce any unwanted vibrations.

As far as your specific locations, i have lived in 4 different places since owning my Axioms/QS's, and i have never really given much though as to where i was putting them, as long as they were behind me, they did a wonderful job. John can give you more specific answers on this...

Hope this helps!

Great thanks for getting back to me, all makes sense and sounds like I am close. Can you point me to the post you talk about above? I had a quick trawl around the site but wasn't sure what I was looking for.

Thanks again

Well after an agonising 10 day wait from when I ordered (got the charcoal smoke finish) my QS8s finally shipped yesterday afternoon.

Now got to wait for the shipment to get across country and will be in my grubby paws on Monday. Will get some pics up once I get them in place, really looking forward to getting them installed and hoping for a few new blu-rays to test them out over Christmas.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures of that finish, it was on my list for quite sometime but I went for one of the basic finishes to save a few bucks.
