It's been a while since I've posted and I come seeking advice once again. I've got the epic 80/500 combo that I've been enjoying since 2005. I've recently changed homes and unfortunately, the QS8s that I have for side surrounds aren't an option in my new bonus room. I can do the flush mount in-walls though.

I'm leaning toward the M22s, unless someone can convince me of a better option.

Thoughts welcome.

Thanks,
Stymie

Why can't you do an on wall mount? A directional speaker really isn't ideal for surrounds

WAF and walking head clearance issues. Mainly WAF. I could potentially do M22 on-walls since they don't stick out as much as the Qs.

that is to bad about the WAF, so you have no other options, like mounting them higher or ceiling angled downward. The on wall m22 is till a bigger speaker, just doesn't stick out as much. I suppose you could do what your asking, but performance would be sacrificed somewhat. So are you going to put the Q's for rears, and that is ok with WAF?

Sty(welcome back), I'm not really following the WAF here. As Randy mentions, the M22s are quite a bit bigger than the QS8s(in the vertical dimension), and this would seem to be at least as objectionable as the QS8s protruding about 3" more.

If this nevertheless is the case, going with the M2s instead would save some money, and crossed over at say 90Hz would serve just about as well as the M22s for surrounds. The smaller size would presumably help the WAF even more.

If this also means that the setup will be 5.1 with no back surrounds, then the Ms should be positioned maybe 2-3' farther back than the listening position and a couple feet above ear level.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Is there such a thing as a paint-able version of the QS8? That would certainly help blend them in to the room.

Just checked and there is. You can send them a paint sample to match even.

I think it's time for a new house already.

On the WAF. She thinks the Qs look like huge wall warts. LOL She's fine with the relatively flush mount in-walls. I picked the M22s figuring that they would be the best alternative. If there was a significant difference in performance between the in-wall and on-wall versions, favoring the on-wall, I might be able to sell her on those.

If I don't reuse the Qs, I'll find a new home in the garage or something for them. I haven't given up on them completely though. Maybe I just need a really good argument that she'd understand as a reason to keep them. LOL

Meant to add, the room doesn't lend itself to a 7.x config.
