Hmm . . . I'm having trouble laying my hands on a pic, but the older config went (from the top) tweeter, mid, tweeter, mid, woofer, woofer. Also the corners were rounded. The design changed around 1999 to improve the response. Does that help at all?

I'm envisioning a new version of "duck duck goose" but with "tweeter tweeter woofer".

Or maybe, a restyled "Rock paper scissors"

I can make that thread spiral off topic in... 3 posts or less.

Michael,

If you can get an old pair of 80's just by trading a set of speakers you don't even use, jump on it man! My first set of 80's had the TMTMWW configuration. When I got them, I was simply amazed. Absolutely ecstatic about my investment. Ended up selling them to a buddy to buy the newer version. (TTMMWW)

It was a long time ago, but from what I remember there wasn't a dramatic or startling difference between old & new. The new ones are better, just not "OH WOW" better. (Disclaimer: I never did get to compare them head to head, though.)
