I'm looking at a HK3480 for stereo only purposes to add to my Denon 2105 HT. However, I thought I saw on one these boards that it has a fixed crossover at 100 for the sub. Does anyone have a 3480? I would want to cross at 60 and that seems like a pretty big difference. Any thoughts??

The 3480 has no built in crossover as far as I know, so you would use the crossover built into the subwoofer. If you want the main speakers to cover the full range you can use the sub out jacks on the 3480... but if your sub has "line out" jacks as well as "line in" you can wire from pre-out on the receiver to line in on the subwoofer, then line out on the sub to power amp in, and the subwoofer's crossover will filter out some of the bass from the signal going to the mains (via the power amp).

Note that the subs which do offer a built in high pass filter and line out jacks normally have a fixed frequency for that filter, so it's important to understand what your sub crossover does before you go any further.

Charles, as John B. pointed out, the 3480 has no crossover to the sub(or the mains). Although it has a sub output, it's full-range unfiltered. There are such things available as separate external filters which might be used, but this appears to be complication without real benefit. Also note that the sub's internal crossover has no effect on the speakers. If you're referring to your present speaker system, the 2105 already does the stereo function and because of its crossover provisions does it better than the 3480 alone could do.

Thanks guys for the info. I think I'll just wait and not do anything right now. And you're right about the stereo mode, it's actually a good mode using the mains and sub.

Just to make sure, I plugged the sub out into the main in, and while it is mono, it provides a full range signal.
