I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a pair of audiobytes and I'm starting to think about what I'll be listening to on them. I'd like to listen to the radio through my laptop as well as CDs. But I don't want the radio to sound terrible and paying for radio wouldn't exactly be my first choice. What would all of you recommend for free, quality internet radio? Or should I just give up on the radio idea and just download MP3s/WMAs? And if so, where is the best place to download them from? Thanks.

Pandora should be one for sure. You can setup your own radio stations and it learns your taste based on groups or songs that you enter. It is a good way to find out about new music.

Wolfgangsvault is hard to beat also
You can listen to classic concerts going back decades and buy concert memorabilia.

Mo, as I've mentioned before, when I'm at the computer I'm typically also using this site for excellent programming. For example, at the moment I'm listening to Jim Svejda's program(weekday nights, 7:00 to 12:00, PST)from KUSC, Los Angeles. Other favorites are BBC Radio3, WQXR New York, WCLV Cleveland, WFMT Chicago, and KVOD Denver.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Pandora is out of order for Canucks. The second link is awesome though! Thank you. It sounds clear too.

John, that's a good one too. I'll try it.

I haven't been there for awhile but after Pandora's run-in with the DCMA I spent a fair amount of time on CBC Radio 3. New Canadian pop/rock/alt.

For classical music, emusic.com has a nice subscription model. I use it a lot for large pieces (pay-per-track) of things I would not buy on CD. They also carry lots of independant producers of tons of other stuff, but I have never looked at it.

Another Canadian site, huge selection of options for every style of music, pretty good sound too.

Check it out Vinyl FM under Rock or 80's Hair Bands under Metal (if you like your music sung by men who look kinda like women).

I've been listening to NPR Music quite often lately. Very nice and broad music styles. Sound is ok, but not great like pandora.

Mojo, as far as downloading music goes I can help you out there (having just short of 4000 songs on my computer). I used bitcomet as a download client, and search through the torrent sites to download music. Torrent sites are only good if you want to download an entire album or what I do with many artists is download an entire discography! You can't download single songs on torrent sites. For that I would recommend limewire.

It takes a little bit to get used to bitcomet, but I'd be more than willing to help you. Just let me know.
