I just purchased some M60s, QS8s and a VP150 and just realized that the 60s are rated at 8ohms but the others at 6ohm. I'm using a Pioneer VSX-1014TX-K receiver to drive them and it states it can handle both 8ohm and 6ohm loads but from my understanding it's an all-or-nothing proposition (there's only one switch).

From reading posts here (and other places) it seems unlikely that I'll damage the receiver regardless of the setting, but I'd still like to know what would be best: Is it better to set the receiver to 8ohms or 6ohms? Or does it really matter?

Set in in the 8 ohm position.

I didn't realize the receiver was selectable in regards to speaker impedence. So in the case of M80's (4 ohm) and the QS8 and VP150 (6ohm)would you select 6 ohm?

I would still go with 8 ohms, unless there is a risk of your kids blasting the system while you are out and not keeping an occasional eye on receiver temperature.

Note that AFAIK nobody on the boards has run M80s on that Pioneer, so there is a risk the two will not be happy together.

If the reciever has problem with shutting down then go to the lower ohm setting.I would get one that could handle the 4 ohm load like H/K or Denon in the first place.

Thanks for the info. I'll set it to 8 ohms. I'll likely have a few more questions over the next couple days (and I can probably swing a photo or too as well. )
