You knew this was coming . . . it's the 'Name the Outdoor M3s' Contest! (and yes, Outdoor M3s is taken)

Please give us your best name for this new product. The winner will receive a pair of the new speakers in exchange for naming them. In the case of a tie, first-past-the-post wins. Good luck everyone!

The best I can think of is "WP3v2" (for Weather Proof 3), or alternativly the "WPM3v2" (Weather Proof M3). I prefer the WP3v2. This is assuming that future models for outdoors may be coming out, you can extend the "WP" to to the other models.

Another option would be "WR3v2" (Weather Resistant 3) or "WRM3v2" (Weather Resistant M3).

I guess "WM3v2" could work (Weather M3) as well.

I got no fancy names, did you want a full name or a model name?

Axiom Elementals

Works in both the literal sense and also in the figurative sense. They are made to be placed out "in the elements" but the name also alludes to the power of nature: Air, Earth, Water, and Fire.

You can't go wrong.

My pick would be: "M3 Nature Series" (or "M3 Nature" if there is only going to be one)..i,e. NS-M3, NM3.
"Nature's speaker"..."Nature's M3" (slogans?)

I think the speaker name should follow the naming convention since they are M3s under the rugged exterior :-). My recommendation,
1) "External Installation Friendly" shortened to "EIF". So, M3EIFv2 or M3v2 EIF
2) "External Friendly Generation" shorthened to "EFG". So, M3EFGv2 or M3v2 EFG
Posted By: jakeman Re: Contest! - 03/15/07 07:54 PM
SerengetiM3. Stands for rugged outdoor adventure and fun.
Posted By: krikan Re: Contest! - 03/15/07 09:30 PM
So far it has been theater on the inside and now its going outside.. Hence the name i suggest would be

1. Amphitheater - the Amphitheater series...
or
2. Colosseum - Best known amphitheare
3. Flavia - the dynasty that built the Colosseum

I strongly lean towards the Amphitheater series because it is intuitive and can be the label for a whole series of them....

To stick with the current scheme, either OM3 or just O3 (O for outdoor). This is similar to what was done with the W22.

I agree. It makes sense.

On the other hand... Calling them "Amphitheater" or "Elemental" is definitely much more dramatic, has more sizzle, more bling-bling.

What about making up a word and then copyrighting it? How about this...sit down folks...

"Fantabutron"

Yeah, I see a gleam in your eye. You like it!!

When I was in Industrial Sales calling on manufacturing plants around Iowa, the term OEM came up often, meaning Original Equipment Manufacturer.

I say we put a little twist on this acronym and call these new speakers:

OEM3 (not sure if Amie is planning on adding the v2 at the end)

Anyway, the OEM3 in this case would stand for "OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL M3" series.

Algonquin, or A3.

Why?

Algonquin Provincial Park is of Canada's most famous, and beautiful outdoor spaces.
It's huge, much like I feel these speakers are going to be (huge in popularity, not size...). If they sound like the M3's, they'll sound huge too!

Signifies their origin. Axiom is in Dwight Ontario, minutes from Algonquin.

Algonquin is a nature preserve. Coincidentally, Axiom speakers sound very natural.

I want a pair for my cottage in Muskoka. I get the feeling that my neighbors will be buying them too.

Also a nice departure from Axiom's current naming scheme, and should you decide to use the first letter, A3 isn't taken yet.

Cheers!

(fingers crossed)

We only have plans for the M3 version of the outdoor speaker at this point, to answer that question. The next version will be the wireless version.
Posted By: colinlewissmith SunVibes - revisited - 03/16/07 03:15 PM
Hmmm...fun thread. After reading a bit more about the new product offerings, and following this thread, I see the development of a "series" AND "model" requirement for the new outdoor series!

I am sticking with my initial "SunVibes" name, and suggesting it could be the name for the outdoor series.

Sun Vibe Series, with two models:

1) SunVibe M3 - for the initial product

introduces the fun/cool new outdoor series brand (SunVibe) and maintains a link to the products heritiage (the original M3)

2) SunVibe Freedom for the wireless/solar version that I so lust after.

Freedom from the cares of life as one listens to your favorite tunes on a bright sunny day. Freedom from wires. Freedom from the power company!

There are lots of great ideas here. Some of my favorites I've seen posted so far:

"Elementals" from pmbuko
I like simply 'Element' Series. Combined with the 4 elements, these speakers could certainly be considered the 5th Element

"Open Air" from whatfurrer
Another great one. I do like the idea of shortening it to either 'Open Series' or 'Aire Series' (spelled how lhulls was suggesting)

"Serenity" from tmoyak
I like it.

Now for some of my own. Once I started thinking, the ideas just started flowing...

Nirvana Series

Utopia Series

Expression Series

Release Series

Escape Series

Perfection Series

Freedom Series

Axiom Without-Bounds or "Boundless Axioms"

Axiom Anywhere Series

Mark's Environmental Series.

Spish's Algonquin Series.

In an effor to still offer something original I would suggest Extroverts, Gossamers, Constellations, or Niagara Series.

New ones from me (maybe someone else suggested):

Cats and Dogs series

to recap my earlier suggestions:

That reminds me... now that we have a nice outdoorsy name, are the self-powered versions going to include a bug-zapper ? A bright LED in the port, and a few KV on the screen; why just keep bugs out of the speaker when you can "send them to paradise" ?

It would probably reduce the number of port-fondling incidents as well, but I know we don't like to talk about that here.

Posted By: tomtuttle Re: Contest! - 03/22/07 07:22 PM
I can't hear Algonquin without thinking of Dorothy Parker and the Algonquin Round Table.
Posted By: Ajax Re: Contest! - 03/22/07 09:47 PM
"If you haven't got anything good to say about someone.............then come sit by me." - Dorothy Parker

When asked to use the word "horticulture" correctly in a sentence, Dorothy replied "You can lead a whore to culture, but you can't make her think."

One of her more famous lines was in a review of a play starring Katherine Hepburn. Of Miss Hepburn's performance she said "She runs the gamut of emotions from A to B."

"If all the girls who attended the Yale prom were laid end to end, I wouldn't be a bit surprised." - Dorothy Parker.

Though I think many of the members of the Algonquin Round Table were very troubled, unhappy people (Parker, Benchley, etc.), and though I'm not sure I would have actually approved of their outrageously funny antics, their talent and wit was undeniable. At a party attended by many of the Round Table members, a young Helen Hayes (famous actress), unused to alcohol (she'd only had one drink) and feeling she just had to try to say something witty to fit in, blurted out something like "Anyone who wants my piano is grateful to it." Their was a short, pregnant moment of silence, then playwright George S. Kaufman dryly replied "That's very seldom of you, Helen." I would happily sacrifice many years of my life to have been a fly on the wall at the Algonquin Round Table.

I just finished reading, for about the 4th the time, Harpo Speaks, Harpo Marks' autobiography (brilliantly ghost written by Rowland Barber). I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Easy to read, eminently entertaining, and a complete delight.

We have an Algonquin Park here in Newburgh, NY lol
Posted By: pmbuko Re: Contest! - 03/23/07 12:26 AM
We have an Algonquin Regional Park here, right along the Potomac River. I've kayaked and canoed there with the kids. Will be doing it again soon now that spring is here.

Ours is bigger.

Algonquin, IL is a real city by me.

It's bigger than your park.

Oh yeah? Well, tomtuttle's ugly yellow dog with no tail and short legs can whup all your dogs ...
Posted By: tomtuttle Re: Contest! - 03/23/07 09:52 PM
Everybody just smile, nod and back away from JP slowly.

Oh, and Dan, I'm guessing Algonquin, IL is somewhat smaller than 7,725 square kilometres, but maybe there's a lot of sprawl.
Posted By: bridgman Re: Contest! - 03/24/07 12:07 AM
Algonquin, IL seems to be between 5 and 16 square miles, depending on which web site you look at.

Chicago is around 230 square miles.

Algonguin Park in Ontario is about 3500 square miles. Ideal for testing subwoofers...

...but you still have the coolest dorm room.

Dang it.

I'll take the coolest dorm room award though

But...Algonquin, IL has more people than the Algonquin park. What's the point in testing subwoofers if no one can hear them?

Good ol' Canada...eh?

Anyway, I'm happy for the winner, the name is suiting.

I'll order a set soon!

Well, Mark PMed me and told me how he shot the elephant after a poll, you guys are too funny. Then the elephant apparently came back to life, then was outsourced (Tom Tuttle is funny!).

So I guess the "Bang" was him shooting things again. What is it about men with guns.

Anyway, I like the elephant so much that I want to make him my avatar thingie. Hope you all like it, hah ha ha.

Nope.

The Bang was reference to the Big Bang, since there was much discussion about "old news"!
