Hello

I am trying to reset the Air using the USB stick instructions, by creating a file on the stick, and starting the Air with the stick inserted.

I tried 4 times, and made sure the file is named correctly (factory_reset, with no .TXT, empty document), but still the Air does not reset

The issue is that I have no internet connectivity now (house rebuild), but the Air is stuck in flashing-blue mode, not enabling the internal WiFi. I suspect is locked trying to find the old network)

Can you give me some hints how to reset it, to force the internal hotspot to be enabled? Note that also tried unplugging and plugging back the USB WiFi adapter, and boot the speaker, but same symptom

Any hint is more than appreciated.

Cheers

I forgot to write the rest. When at the WiFi settings of the iPhone, when I go into Airplay, is when the old network name appears and it fails to connect. That why I think its stuck on the old network, and the internal hotspot not working.

Troubleshooting advice?

Thanks

Not trying to make excuses , just some ideas. Not all usb drives are created equal, make sure its formatted correctly, windows 10 does have issues formatting fat32 so download miniaide fat32 formatter if on windows.

Seems that worked. Partially.
Now I can see the speaker hotspot in windows, but still not in the iphone.

In windows, I could access the WebGUI and connect the Air to a temporary network (neighbor). But then it will not appear in my phone.

Then, I reset again, and let the hotspot to go again, and the phone does not see the network, but inmediatelly recognize it as an Airplay, and when connecting to "a network" it fails.. it actually went connecting to all the networks my phone was picking up until it failed...

I will keep troubleshooting tomorrow. Thanks for the hint on the FAT32. I still have Win7 installed (yes, I know).

BTW, the Air have never flashed its red light "out of network" during this whole process, incl. the many factory resets. What could that mean?

Cheers

Hi aabouganem,

Booting with a USB stick installed is the same as doing a factory reset, which it seems like you already have done. After a Factory Reset your old network information will be gone. The flashing blue light means you are in Hotspot mode. You should be able to join the AxiomAir WiFi network on your computer. From there you can open a browser in either IE or Chrome and in the address bar enter 192.168.211.1 This will bring up the AxiomAir UI. Click the gear in the upper right, then Network. You should see your new home network part way down the page. Click the connect icon to the right of it, enter you network password, then click the connect icon to the right of your password. The light on the front of your AxiomAir should turn solid blue. You are now on your network. If you join your home network again on your computer, then click on Windows Explorer, then click on Network at the bottom left you should see your AxiomAir listed under Media Devices on the right. Double click on the AxiomAir and the UI will open. Now you can click the gear, then System, and then Check Updates at the bottom of the page. Give us a ring tomorrow if this doesn't work.

I had to work late tonight, last minute request from work.. so here I am at 11.30p troubleshooting one more time. And last time, as the startup sound woke up wife and that is the end of the testing.

However, I managed to connect, as Ian described, which I thought I was doing before anyway, but now seems to have worked (sure there was a piece of code sent over the forum, LOL). Well, I connected the Air to the neighbor network and proceeded to check for updates. It completed the update and processed to reboot, and then stuck here. I don't want to force shutdown during installation or whatever is doing now, so will leave it on until tomorrow 6am when I wake up.

Its steady green light. No blue, no red.

Tomorrow, I will take it back to the worksite, which has no network available. My goal is to make it work with its own internal hotspot. I have used it before, no issues, not sure why I got so much trouble this time along. Granted, I had not used the speaker in over 4months (My house was flooded during the storm Harvey in Texas, so the Air, along with many things, it was packed tight in the second floor until this weekend when it was finally unpacked, and I am almost done with the home rebuild)

Next morning - green steady light still on, no changes
Air will not shut down, had to force it by keeping the button pressed until it went off.

Rebooted Air and it straight connected to my apartment neighbor network, and verified the version on the updates and its correct, it has been updated

Note: I realized that one of the "errors" I was having yesterday was that the Air will not be reachable at http://axiomair.local after connecting to a network (needing the factory reset again). The manual says also to try 192.168.211.1, and it was not working either. Last night late I noticed that the IP of the Air was 10.0.0.47, so I am assuming this might changing with each network automatic IP ?

Ill check the hotspot (no network) in the evening back at the house worksite.

Cheers

I would suggest adding a / to the end, so it would be http://axiomair.local/ . In order for this to work you need to have Bonjour installed. This is in all Apple products and can be added to your PC by downloading iTunes. Alternatively you can go to Windows Explorer (File Explorer in Windows10) click on Network on the left hand side then double click on AxiomAir under Media Devices on the right hand side; this will open the UI. For Android it is easiest to download the Android App and for Apple to download the Apple App. The 192.168.211.1 IP address is only valid in Hotspot mode. Once you are connected to a network your router will assign a new IP address to your AxiomAir.

It went further now. I can see the axiom network from hotspot, but it never asked me to cancel/use without internet.

Some progress at least

Will that be an IOS thing not asking to use without internet ?
Posted By: Ian Re: factory_reset not working - 01/18/18 03:54 PM
Yes, your phone controls if it will ask you that. Most phones and computers will have some sort of indicator to let you know you have connected to a WiFi network that is not connected to the internet, but they may only do it once.

Any trick how to get it back ?
Posted By: Ian Re: factory_reset not working - 01/21/18 02:08 PM
I assume you don't need the warning back smile. Are you not seeing the AxiomAir as a WiFi network in Hotspot mode?
Posted By: aabouganem Re: factory_reset not working - 02/04/18 04:28 PM
Late reply of mine. Quite busy last week.

The immediate need for the hotspot have reduced as I have now setup the WiFi at the house, and using the Air in a daily basis. But I will still want to troubleshoot and be able to use hotspot mode.

I can see the Axiomair as WiFi. But I cannot select the Wifi to work without internet, then I am no able to use email or online music sources. There is no dialog asking to use that network without WiFi. That is the functionality I would like to recover.

Hotspot mode is supposed to be triggered automatically when the AxiomAir is unable to reconnect to the WiFi network for which it was set up. Doing a factory reset puts it into Hotspot mode because it removes the information required to connect to a WiFi network -- but now the AxiomAir won't connect to your main WiFi without reconfiguring it.
If you'd like to test that HotSpot mode would work when away from your home network, you could try turning off your WiFi router/access point, which should then after a brief delay cause your AxiomAir to switch into HotSpot mode.
Hope this helps!

I'm having a similar issue.

factory_reset on a FAT32 formatted USB drive is not resetting.

I can airplay to "WhiteHot" on home network, and in hotspot mode. Unable to access WebUI with http://whitehot.local/ or 192.168.211.1 or with iPhone AxiomAir App. Unable to control volume from any device (which is why I began this whole process).

Any help would be marvelous!

Cheers,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Based on your post, it appears that you renamed your AxiomAir as "WhiteHot". However, if at some point after that you performed a factory reset on your AxiomAir, it most likely has reverted (or perhaps partially reverted) to its factory default name, which should be "AxiomAir".

Can you please try to access the WebUI on http://axiomair.local?
Posted By: bcm Re: factory_reset not working - 05/11/18 03:39 AM
Hello Mike,

Thank you for your response; I did indeed name the AxiomAir "WhiteHot". I tried to access it with http://axiomair.local with no luck. It is behaving the same as before my attempted factory reset - I will try to find another usb drive to attempt a reset tomorrow.

(Though any other suggestions would be appreciated!)

Cheers,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Are the lights on the AxiomAir flashing? Is it connecting to a WiFi network or did it fall back to hotspot mode?

Mike

Hi Mike,

It automatically connects to my home network. I can of course get it to hotspot mode, but still cannot access WebUI.

Thanks! (Still waiting to get a new USB drive set up for a reset.)

Hi Ben,

If it automatically connects to your home network, I'm really not sure how a factory reset would help.

Did you say that you can play music but not control the volume? How do you get the music to play?

Are you able to connect using one of the apps (Android or iPhone)?

Hi Mike,

I can airplay to it from iPhones, apple computers, and an appleTV. However the volume selected on any of the devices does not change the volume of the speaker. I cannot access WebUI through any web browser or through my iPhone app.

Hi Ben,

It seems like a call to the Axiom experts would be appropriate in this case. Please see if you can get to Ian for help on this.

Just for the record, even when i can get connected to the Air successfully, this IP in a browser never works. I only ever get 'failed connection' or 'connection timed out' errors.

This is the IP address for the AxiomAir in Hotspot mode. Once on your network your router will assign a new IP address. The best way to get to the AxiomAir UI on a network is our Android App, our Apple App, or on a PC from File Explorer under Media Devices double click on the AxiomAir.

Incidentally my Air continues to be a problem on startup with this wifi connection.
I don't want to use the Air on my local wifi for playing music. Stay in hotspot mode and keep the analog connection turned on. It won't keep these settings. I updated the Air online to whatever latest version might exist, and it doesn't matter what i select for 'saving' or a checkbox in the app, the Air keeps going back to wifi searching mode on startup.

The last time the Air was used it was in it's own hotspot with analog mode activated. When it starts up it automatically goes back to trying a wifi connection with my router. I set my router to deny the Air any IP assignment. However, the Air continues to 'look' for the wifi (almost as if the Air won't give up trying to connect even thought the router is telling it no). As such, i can obviously never connect to the Air with the app from a tablet/phone because the Air is neither on my wifi, nor in its own hotspot mode so there is no IP address for the app or a browser to use.

The only way i can 'fix' this problem is to physically carry the Air out of my yard, out of the range of my router, then reboot and then it goes into its own hotspot mode and THEN i can finally use the app to connect with my tablet/phone and change it to analog.

Such a simple thing.
Retain the last known connection method that was set by the user (either local wifi or Air hotspot) and stay there!

I really hope these things are going to be fixed in the update. My daughter is really looking forward to an easier connection method (i.e. Bluetooth) for accessing the Air via the app more easily and for her friends to connect without needing an analog adapter. Some might say well why are they not using the wifi to play music directly? The simple answer is because they don't all have Apple products and i have scoured the Google Store for players that work easily and seamlessly from an Android unit to play music over wifi from the onboard stored material (this includes trying the ones recommended by Axiom such as BubbleUPnP). There were so many glitches or issues with one thing or another i'm not bothering to type them all down.
It is hell trying to get my own device to work so there's no way i'm going to try and troubleshoot some other kid's Android phone.

That aside, many of the kids like to play music directly from Youtube or Spotify, etc. and you cannot be connected via wifi to the Air at the same time as using local wifi for the internet connection.
With BT connected to the Air and wifi connected to a local source, this could be accomplished.
