I thought it would be a cool idea if we had a thread of "Axiom Moments" filled with funny/cool moments with their audio setups. I guess if people think this is a dumb idea the thread will die, but I'll start.

I hadn't watched a movie in a few weeks, so I decided to break the ice with Saving Private Ryan. As soon as I started up the movie, the PA (equivalent to RA) said "I thought that was thunder when I first heard it...dang that was loud." About half way through the movie, a guy from the room next door comes into my room and exclaims "Drazba, my floor is SHAKING."

Good to be watching movies again.

Don’t know if these count.

The first time I watched “Master and Commander” during the opening battle scene I thought I heard a couple people running across the roof of the apartment. Thinking they might be firefighters I jumped up to look out the door only then to realize it was coming from the speakers.

The first time I calibrated the speakers I set the EP500 volume at the 9:00 position. As the test tone dropped lower windows, dishes and the TV started to shake and rattle. I thought I heard one of the kids in the neighboring apartment yell “terremoto.” I confirmed with my fathers cleaning lady that it meant earthquake.

I was watching Transporter 2 last night. Every time someone knocked on a door in the movie my dogs would bark like crazy and run to the front door, then sit there with a confused look because nobody was there.

Most of the door knocking sounds were in the right surround, which from my listening position happened to be in exactly the same direction as the front door, so there were a couple of times I got up to check. No barking though...

Funny, you aren't the only person who's saying that now adays...

Does this count as an Axiom audio moment? My entire system is disconnected and sitting in various locations in my dining room, along with all the furniture that used to be in the living room. I ripped out the carpet last night (along with the pesky tack strips) and will be installing a new floor (Marmoleum) sometime this weekend or early next week. But, since all the furniture is out of the room, I'm also painting the ceiling and walls. But before I paint the ceiling and walls I have to do all the prep -- and this room has a few problem areas where the prep took some time.

Before I started the "project" I thought I'd have the floor in by now. Funny how jobs always get bigger as you go.

So to tie this all back to audio, since my Axioms and receiver are out of commission for a while, I've unearthed my AIWA boombox so I can listen to music. Dang it sounds like crap. I miss my Axioms.

Now, I have to crack open that can of primer and get back to work.

I know what you mean, I experienced the same with my Sharper Image bookshelf stereo the first day of my move.

Whenever I used to move, the stereo system was the last to be packed up and the first to be setup.

Just run some speaker wire and plug in your receiver and a disc player. You know you want to.....

My system has been disconnected for the last 4 weeks. I sold my old tv and audio system and bought a new tv and the Axiom speakers. Didn't really realize that it was going to take so long to get my speakers or I would have held on to my old ones for a little longer. 4 weeks, no music, no movies. It looks like it will be a few more weeks longer. I refuse to watch a movie without my surround sound!

I have to watch The Departed, Casino Royale, Borat, etc..everyone is talking about these movies and how good they are and all I can do is .... well no offense but chat on this forum lol....

Someone's coming by to pick up my Sony 32" Wega TV this evening. It's a very heavy monster and it was a pain to move it out of the living room. The strange thing is I don't have any concrete plans to replace it soon and I'm OK with that.

Probably because when I go buy something to replace it, it will be a flat HD set that I can mount on the wall.

By the way, how to you guys sell your big screen TVs? I cannot imagine shipping my Samsung 43" DLP when the time comes to sell it. I know it will be replaced by a plasma or LDC that can be hung in the wall above the fireplace.

Well in my case, I sold my tv to a buddy at work. He only had a 20inch tv (which I also sold to him) and wanted something a big larger but couldn't afford a new tv. I sold him my Sony 43" HD hiscan for $400. It was 5yrs old. Hard to believe I paid $3,500 for it brand new.

Craigslist is your friend.

I haven't used Craig's list, but why is it any more trustworthy then ebay?
Posted By: Ken.C Re: The "Axiom Audio Moments" Thread - 03/26/07 04:31 AM
Because you actually see the people face to face. It's harder to bilk someone when they're looking at the item and paying cash for it.
Posted By: AdamP88 Re: The "Axiom Audio Moments" Thread - 03/26/07 04:35 AM
Plus you don't have to worry about paying for shipping.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: The "Axiom Audio Moments" Thread - 03/26/07 11:34 AM
Yeah, I use craigslist for everything I want to sell, and occasionally for things I want to buy. When you post something, generally people will come to your house to pick it up. I've occasionally delivered items if the buyer didn't live too far away and didn't have a car big enough to haul the item away.
Posted By: Zarak Re: The "Axiom Audio Moments" Thread - 03/26/07 02:49 PM
Didn't know it was only done by local areas with no shipping. That makes sense then.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: The "Axiom Audio Moments" Thread - 03/26/07 05:04 PM
There's nothing to prevent you from shipping to anywhere you wish, but craiglist's user base is large enough (in most areas) that you can usually find buyers locally if the price is right.

Back on the subject at hand... Every time I demo my system for a friend using the master and command battle scene in the beginning, I get a grin ear to ear.

The most recent situation tops the cake. I sat my friend in the sweet spot (he is no audiophile by any means, could really care less for crazy sound and LFE). When the cannons fired from the fog (the first cannon fire made) he actually flinched in his seat when the LFE came through and the cannon balls were tearing the ship apart.

He told me after he was not expecting to "feel" the cannon fire in his seat. Now THAT is an Axiom moment! I even warned him ahead of time that it would be pretty loud, he didn't give it a second thought before it all started. Now that he has heard my system, I think he know what kind of sound movies are supposed to have!

On bridgmans entry, we babysit my parents dog sometimes, she happened to be here this weekend, and just goes crazy when she hears "voices" from the surrounds, she runs upstairs expecting burglars or something, quite ammusing! She also goes barking every time subtle LFE plays (like a heart beat).
