I was wondering what all of you are using to store your music, movies, video games, and even books. For my DVDs, I was able to pick up some shelving that was used in an elementary school library several years ago. It can accommodate about 500-600 DVDs, I'd say (with many being box sets), and it has served me well, but when I redo my home theater in the basement, there's a ledge that runs around the whole perimeter which I'd like to put to use, so I was thinking of having custom shelving built for it. Besides holding my media, I was thinking I could have my A/V components on the ledge behind the TV, and if I could mount the TV on a shelf on the wall, it would eliminate the need for a TV stand.

Anyway, I'm still looking at prefabricated solutions, and I was wondering if there were any particularly clever touches you've found in shelving units. I haven't seen any specific designs that I've been completely bowled over by, but I'm fairly happy with the Atlantic Elf Multimedia Storage for my music collection. However, I'm reaching its limits.

So yeah, I just wanted to see what options you've chosen for yourselves, and why you like or dislike what you're currently using.

I'm holding off on media storage for the time being because I plan on doing this.

I use a whole bunch of these. Nothing fancy, but with adjustable shelves quite versatile. Two hold DVDs and three hold books and CDs.

I'm using 4 sorice b-300's with a b-150 stacked on each. Wood doors and locks. The advantage to these is they are flexible if I move or need to reconfigure. Also have 3 of the matching lp/component cabs. I looked for about 10 years for something cool yet dignified, this is as close to what I wanted as I could find. With 700 cd's in piles and bags I had to do something even if it was wrong.

Similar to Sean, i used a cheap Ikea solution Billy Bookcase. It doesn't look too shabby, especially with the glass doors on the front and a little interior lighting.

I kind of like the idea of glass, but on the other hand, I think I might get tired of opening doors to get to my stuff. I'm leaning toward open shelving at this point. Has anyone taken pictures of the shelving actually in use in their house?
