Well, my beloved Sony Triniton 27" TV, after almost 11 years............died. This set had a fantastic picture, on one of the first almost "flat tubes".

This is about the worst timing for me, because of all the current, and upcoming "changes".

It wasn't all that long ago, (2004) that I was posting about my "new" stereo system w/ M60's.
Now, I need to get a new TV..............BUT, already my "new" system is obsolete, and has no HDMI connectors (among other things).
I have been planning for a flat panel, but I'm not ready.
So,...........I went to the big box stores, looking for another 27" to tide me over until 09'.
That's not going to happen........other than some odd, leftovers, there isn't an "old school" 27" TV to be had.

Plus, when I do get one, I want a 1080p, but most of the the smaller one's are 720p.....soon to be obsolete too?

I'm not sure if this matters, because they are ALL rectangular......my entertainment center has a........SQUARE hole!

So any ideas?

In conclusion, I would like to say.........AHHHHHHHHHHH!

Are you looking at something around 27" AND want 1080p?

Way too small of a set to get any benefit from 1080p, so a 720p would really "look the same" from a normal viewing distance. There have been many posts (some recently) here with the nice chart about the size of a screen, at various viewing distances, and it shows at what point you can actually notice a difference in screen resolution (720p, 1080p, etc)...

Other than that, I have no help for you. Outside of our home theater, the next biggest of our TVs is 27" regular tube from about 11 years ago. So far, it is still alive and kicking, so I haven't been in the market to replace it. When I do have to, I will be getting a 35" 720p screen as that makes the most sense from our viewing distance in our living room.

No, of course not.

To explain my post......I HAD a 27" which died, I have been looking at flat panels....and have trepidation about 720p, couldn't find another 27", 1080P flat panels won't fit entertainment center, AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Larry,

What ever you buy make sure you check out Grants in Joliet. They normally smoke anyone on prices. That's where I got my Sharp LCD.

That's one of the great things about these boards........all the members who REALLY know how to save a buck!

I went to the local Wally-world and got a ilo 27" TV to "buy" some time, so I can do more research on: HD,HDMI,720p,1080p,HD-DVD,AND......entertainment centers.......before I spend the big bucks, and go AAHHHHHHHHHHHH!........AGAIN!
