Does anyone have recommendations on freeware CD burning software for Windows that will let me label the CDs with LightScribe? I have this LightScribe drive now, as well as some LightScribe discs, so I'm looking to try it out.
Go to lightscribe.org and they have some useful links there. Did the drive come with Nero 7 or 8 or what ever as mine did and it has a good burning program too. I think it is even a free download from Nero.

It came with Nero 7 Basic. I was trying to avoid installing it. It seems kind of bloated, and plus it's old software now. Ha ha. I'll check out lightscribe.org. Thanks!

You should be able to use the latest Nero version full-featured for a while, 15 or 30 days I think. Like jakewash states, if you bought the drive retail, it should have come with the software, otherwise you might be stuck having to buy it. I got Nero 7 Essentials free with my $20 DVD combo drive, not sure that has lightscribe abilities, but it sure was cheap!

One of the programs listed on the CD itself is Nero Lightscribe, so I assume it will do it.

Yup, I just fired up Nero Essentials and I have the ability to create Lightscribe labels (although I don't have the drive). You should be all set with that. I've always been happy with Nero, Roxio (formerly EZ CD Creator) has been hit or miss.

I'm going to try the free software from lightscribe.com for now. We'll see how that goes.

I tried the LightScribe Simple Labeler, and it didn't like me. I couldn't see its attempt at printing at all. I wonder what I did wrong.
Does simple labeler see your drive? I now when Lightscribe first came out many people were having problems with the software even seeing the drives. I also found I had to install the Nero software before I could get any programs to burn on the drive, possibly had to do with some drivers on that disk perhaps?

I have been burning discs with Nero since #5 and lightscribe since number 6, my first lightscribe drive was the BenQ 1455,IIRC, been through 2 BenQ's and now have an LG.

It saw the drive and went through the whole process, but after it said it was done and ejected the disc, there was nothing. I need a higher power to say, "Let there be LightScribe."
Odd. I am thinking it only did a test/preview and not an actual print. You did remember to put the disc in top side down right? I had a friend that didn't flip the disc over and fo some reason the program never mentioned the disc was not in properly.

...And you are using Lightscribe media? Not trying on a regular CD/DVD -/+ R/RW?

Yes, LightScribe media, and I had it top-side down. I'll try the program once more, then try another one just to see.

All right, I tried the same program again, did the exact same process, and it worked on the second disc. Maybe there was something off in the coating of the first disc.
Have you retried with the first disc just to see if it was the disc?
