One of NHRA's best. Tragic it was the track he ran his very first race on back in the 80's..

What a shame, for sure. That is the worst crash I can remember in a funny car.

Dude. That's a nasty wreck. You've got to wonder if he was alive when he hit that wall or not.

Looks like the chute mechanism malfunctioned, exploding when the chutes were set to eject. Perhaps that explosion, at least, knocked him out. You can only hope.

Pretty tragic stuff, indeed.

Don Prudhomme said that Scott's car went airborne whenever it hit the gravel runoff area and center punched the concrete pole that held the catch fence at over 200 and something miles per hour, also said the car went into what looked like a million pieces. I thought usually whenever one of these cars caught fire like this is typically burned the chutes off, I'm thinking that's what happened to the chutes on this car.

Tragic stuff, R.I.P. Scott.

It does look like the chutes were burnt off and it does happen when a fire of that magnitude engulfs a car.

Remember a couple of years ago whenever a Top Alcohol {I'm thinking it was a T/A car) car driven by a lady did a bad wheel stand, blew over and ended up facing towards the starting line ... it then excellerated to a speed of 250 MPH and hit her dually chase truck with her 30 year old son inside, went through the back wall and both vehicles ended up in the woods several hundred yards in back of the starting line killing them both. The consensus was that she was knocked out during the blow over and either the throttle stuck wide open or her foot was pressed on the throttle pedal.

That's bad stuff.

I do recall that.
