[tomtuttle] If we were the muppets...
[tomtuttle] JP would be the Cookie Monster
[kcarlile] I'm trying to figure out what the rest of us would be.
[kcarlile] Well, Peter would be Ernie, I guess.
[St_PatGuy] your sam the eagle
[kcarlile] not really, no.
[kcarlile] I'm more like a combo of Boober Fraggle and Bert. With a touch of Oscar.
[kcarlile] I think Tom gets Kermit.
[kcarlile] Sean? You're totally Dr. Teeth.
[St_PatGuy] Is it the unibrow?
[pmbuko] One of the scientists here sounds just liek Beaker.
[St_PatGuy] Dr. Teeth and I dress the same
[kcarlile] yeah, thought so.
[St_PatGuy] I want to be Fozzy.
[St_PatGuy] Jack and Ray are the balcony guys
[kcarlile] damn, yeah, you're much closer to Fozzy than Dr. Teeth. Sorry, dude.
[kcarlile] Yeah, I'd have to say so, although Jack can be slightly more insightful than either of them.
[kcarlile] JohnK's totally Dr. Honeydew.
[kcarlile] Is BBIBH Snuffy, then? Since no one ever sees him?
[St_PatGuy] yeah, long time member that no one sees
Posted By: medic8r Re: [tomtuttle] If we were the muppets... - 06/27/08 04:32 PM
CV could be Gonzo, funny but ... different
Posted By: Ken.C Re: [tomtuttle] If we were the muppets... - 06/27/08 04:41 PM
Oh, brilliant!
Posted By: medic8r Re: [tomtuttle] If we were the muppets... - 06/27/08 04:49 PM
prototype3a would be Crazy Harry, since he always talks about blowing sh!t up.

That is good!
Posted By: medic8r Re: [tomtuttle] If we were the muppets... - 06/27/08 05:14 PM
So, the Axiom staff can be the house band (the Electric Mayhem)

Dr. Teeth: Ian (the ringleader)
Janice: Amie
Zoot: Alan

Looks like Robb Hutzal has claimed Animal long ago!

Maybe Adam can be Rowlf as they both tickle the ivories!
Posted By: Amie Re: [tomtuttle] If we were the muppets... - 06/27/08 05:18 PM
A brief discussion just now with Debbie. She's really Janice. I think I have to go with the other option . . . the dreaded . . . she-who-cannot-be-named-in-case-you-get-banned.
Posted By: medic8r Re: [tomtuttle] If we were the muppets... - 06/27/08 05:30 PM
So then that would make Ian Kermit, unless you want to find yourself chasing after tomtuttle ...

To Review:

Muppet Show Muppets:

Kermit: Ian
Miss [deleted by admin]: Amie
Fozzie: St_Pat_Guy
Gonzo: CV

Dr. Teeth: ? Maybe Jean-Claude
Janice: Debbie
Rowlf: AdamP88
Animal: Hutzal
Zoot: Alan
[?other Electric Mayhem?]

Statler: Ray3
Waldorf: Ajax

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew: JohnK

Crazy Harry: prototype3a

Sesame Street Muppets

Cookie Monster: medic8r
Ernie: pmbuko
Bert: kcarlile

Snuffy: BBIBH

---

Still lots of good characters to be claimed!

Tom, since I booted you off as Kermit, you get your pick ...

I stand corrected. Thanks for sharing Mel. You definitely know the muppet show.

Here's a picture list of some of the main Muppet show characters.

http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Academy/3108/puppets.html

Looks like we still have Sgt. Floyd Pepper to fill. Along with many others... Scooter, Sam the Eagle, Lew Zealand, Link Hogthrob, Dr. Strangepork, Rizzo, Peppe (not pictured), and the Muppet newscaster.
Posted By: medic8r Re: [tomtuttle] If we were the muppets... - 06/27/08 06:51 PM
And for Sesame Street muppets, I say we let BrenR and mdrew fight it out to see who gets to be Oscar the Grouch.

SCRAM!

Hmm.. Good point. I like all the listings up so far.
Posted By: St_PatGuy Re: [tomtuttle] If we were the muppets... - 06/27/08 06:53 PM
BrenR can be Sweetums.
Posted By: medic8r Re: [tomtuttle] If we were the muppets... - 06/27/08 06:53 PM
Tomtuttle could be the Count, and he could count backwards as he drinks the bottles of beer off the wall.

Who gets the coveted role of Sveedish Shef?

We need one for Randy. Let's see...

Maybe Scooter, because of the tech enthusiasm?

I can't believe that Elmo hasn't been claimed!!! He's so cute.

Here's more good stuff from the shout box. Now Amie is not the only one who gets to enjoy this in archived from! Ha.
---
[medic8r] Cast is really coming along in the Muppet thread.
[medic8r] Wonder what those cast in their absence will say ...
[St_PatGuy] serves them right for working during the day. . .
[kcarlile] I feel like we're missing some.
[medic8r] Roger for Elmo (spiffnme)
[medic8r] or is that Craig?
[medic8r] I get that couple confused
[kcarlile] Craig
[kcarlile] Hmmmm... maybe.
[medic8r] He doesn't comearound as much any more
[kcarlile] Might have to double him up for SuperGonzo.
[kcarlile] There's also Bridgman.
[medic8r] I figured because of the bear being cute, Mr Bear ~= Elmo
[medic8r] a stretch, I know
[tomtuttle] Some cad already implied I was Oscar.
[kcarlile] I'm all for bringing the Fraggles into this.
[tomtuttle] I missed much of the conversation. Is Peter Big Bird?
[kcarlile] It would give us some extra characters to play with.
[kcarlile] jakewash needs one
[medic8r] Since you were booted from Kermit, really you chould have your pick, but careful not to boot anyone else.
[kcarlile] Peter's Ernie
[medic8r] Tom, look at the Water Cooler, there's a thread there.
[medic8r] We're playing with fire, operating simlutaneously in the shout box and the threads
[fredk] Actually I think JP should be fozzie.
[medic8r] the space-time continuum is warping around the edges, I can see it
[fredk] CV, gonzo
[tomtuttle] Classic, Fred.
[medic8r] Maybe a medic8r/St_Pat_Guy mashup could be MechaFozzie
[medic8r] Fred, I called CV Gonzo hours ago. Our Hivemind is stunning
[medic8r] Frightening, as always
[medic8r] Sean may get jealous, though, he's usually my twin

Sure thing, JaimeG.

I only know that one from the Sandra Bullock/Kermit "Phenomenon" song, to the same tune, in the later incarnation of the show.

I saw your earlier post but didn't realize who the character was. I thought you were saying "Animal" in a purposefully warped way.

Glad you chimed back in to avoid further confusion.

OK, dllewel, I'm up for it.

I figure I'll keep my Cookie Monster avatar for one week at least.

Why don't we all, for one week, change to Muppet avatars?

Now that would be the whole enchilada! Not to mention a good team-building exercise. Or, I could be full of crap.

Gotta go, this is starting to remind me of how I sound in my sessions with patients, LOL.

More shout box harvestin's, fresh from the thresher:

[medic8r] Muppet therapy!
[fredk] OK Peter, you're right. All those avatars lining up nicely in a serious post about audio cracks me up. \:\)
[medic8r] Bert, did those pigeons give you psittacosis?
[kcarlile] man, that almost fits. But don't talk about my pigeons that way!
[medic8r] I'm glad I logged in from home - dial-up and all - catching these new avatars gave me a laugh before bed
[kcarlile] We need one for Rick.
[St_PatGuy] it's a good thing.
[kcarlile] well, both Ricks.
[St_PatGuy] Yeah, there are some regulars that got left out
[kcarlile] that's not nice!
[kcarlile] RickF shall be.... Floyd!
[medic8r] that'll comlete the Electric Mayhem
[medic8r] *complete
[kcarlile] But what about wid?
[medic8r] and Eric Falardieu
[kcarlile] indeed.
[St_PatGuy] for no good reason, I'll say Eric as Lew Zealand
[fredk] I think Amies task for tomorrow should be to update the avatars of those 'left out'.
[kcarlile] gonna have to look up Lew Zealand
[kcarlile] perfect.
[kcarlile] absolutely perfect.
[St_PatGuy] don't forget about Chess
[medic8r] Sam the Eagle, except Chess is Canadian, hmm
[medic8r] Not a lot of Muppets left
[medic8r] He might get stuck with Elmo
[St_PatGuy] Yeah, that's what I was thinking, JP.
[fredk] Rizzo the rat.
[medic8r] Even though she's not an Axiom user, Claire is Camilla the chicken
[St_PatGuy] That fits.
[St_PatGuy] especially given Gonzo's disposition to poultry.
[medic8r] I could see sirquack as Sam the Eagle, then we could make Chess Scooter ...
[St_PatGuy] No, Randy's a better fit as Scooter
[St_PatGuy] We could make Chess Dr Julius Strangepork
[St_PatGuy] Craig should be Link Hogthrob.
[kcarlile] works for me.
[kcarlile] still need wid.
[kcarlile] wait, did we decide on a Sam the Eagle?
[St_PatGuy] Wid's normal, unlike us.
[St_PatGuy] No, he'd be best for Rick (Wid) i think
[kcarlile] well, there we are.
[kcarlile] Doc, we need a list update.

[x] [kcarlile] works for me.
[x] [kcarlile] still need wid.
[medic8r] Big Bird?
[medic8r] I don't know wid's personality
[medic8r] Muppet Newscaster?
[St_PatGuy] Nothing's jumping out at me for Wid
[x] [kcarlile] maybe the newscaster, but I'm not getting anything either.
[x] [kcarlile] wait, did we decide on a Sam the Eagle?
[St_PatGuy] Wid's normal, unlike us.
[St_PatGuy] No, he'd be best for Rick (Wid) i think
[x] [kcarlile] well, there we are.
[x] [kcarlile] Doc, we need a list update.
[St_PatGuy] good job, ken
[CV] Wow, Claire even gets in on the muppetation, huh?

Jack,

You would THINK at our ages (well, YOUR age anyhow), especially considering the pertinent and pithy advice we have shared with the denizens of this place over the years, we might get a little respect!!!

But NOOOOoooOOOOOooooo - what do we get?

First I find a lovely picture of myself as "The Tick". THEN we show up as "Grumpy Old Men". Now we're Statler and Waldorf, the curmudgeonly balcony guys.

I understand Rodney Dangerfield's inner demons much better these days.

Welcome to the party, Captain Kruncher. I mean, Count Chocula. I mean, who are you? Ha ha, just kidding.
Given that I both enjoy television and tend to worry about stuff too often, I would have to assign myself to be Telly Monster.

Has anyone else claimed Telly?

Hey guys,

I just noticed that medic8r had assigned Count to tomtuttle. I went with the Count because I quickly went through the thread and didn't see an avatar for him. Didn't mean to subvert the implied rules of the game. It's all in fun, after all...

Should I pick another?

Hmm, Tom didn't play along with the avatar switch like I had hoped, so he loses points there. But he did post in character as the Count, so I guess he does have precedent.

May I suggest Kruncher as Elmo? The world's most popular Muppet still needs representation here.

I'll cogitate on this one before I commit. Let me get a clarification on the rules, though. Are we limited to Muppets and Sesame Street? Or is the whole Henson universe at our disposal?

Oh, I'd say the Henson universe is at our disposal, as long as they're a Muppet. In other words, no human characters from the movies.

And I know you're just dying to stick Yoda in there, aren't you?

I'm thinking that there is the possibility of some enjoyable conversation going on at Axiom HQ. I seem to recall that they have a monitor for the boards on the frige in their break room. Kind of like the benevolent creator looking down upon his children, or more likely, the parent with a baby monitor!

If they are listening, then they need to know we are (I am, at least) hoping for more Axiom staff to jump in and claim their Muppet heritage ...
Posted By: Ken.C Re: [tomtuttle] If we were the muppets... - 07/01/08 03:43 PM

BZZZT!

Judges say, no dice. That's part of the "What Star Wars character are you?" thread planned for September.

I've got it all mapped out. Let me know what you think:

I figure, let the current thread run through July. No pressure on anyone who wants to revert their avatar to more familiar form before then. After all, maintaining Muppet form can take a lot of energy.

Then we could have a monthly theme: "What __?__ character are you?"

August: Simpsons
September: Star Wars
October: Comic Book
November: Star Trek
December: Disney

etc.

If we all get tired of this, then we can throw in the towel at any time. I could see after a while not worrying as much about the avatars, just conversing over it.

Could make for some lively debates!

If we go with this, then I am instituting a no dibs policy. You cannot claim a character before I start the thread each month. The astute of you (the majority, I would expect) will realize that this gives me first choice each month. You're right!

I'll promise not to take the plum characters each time, seriously. Any ideas for other universes we should explore, let me know. Each one should be big enough to support the dozens of regulars here and should be popular enough for us to be able to talk collectively about it.
Yoda? I would never do that.

Hmmm, Cap'n Pickard wonders why we don't include him in our games more, then he changes the rules of the game when we allow him in...

Characters from the Dark Crystal were actually the first 'muppets' I thought of once I noticed that most of the 'Muppet Show' muppets were taken. As one of the earliest movies I remember seeing (I was 5 in 1982), the Skeksis made a big impression on me. However, I asked Wikipedia to make the call...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muppet

"The puppet characters of Farscape, The Storyteller, Mother Goose Stories, The Hoobs, Construction Site and Dinosaurs, as well as from the films Labyrinth, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Buddy, The Country Bears and The Dark Crystal, are not considered Muppets, as they were made by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, rather than by Henson's Muppet Workshop. The puppet casts of Puppet Up! and Tinseltown are also not considered Muppets as they were made by The Jim Henson Company after the sale of The Muppets in 2004. The Star Wars character Yoda was voiced by Frank Oz, one of Henson's regular performers, and is often referred to as a Muppet in media and reference works; he is not, however, a Muppet and Henson's organization was not involved in the character's design."

Got the hint. Note to self: 1) be less complimentary, and 2) start a flame war some time just to be more balanced.

Funny, getting ass kissing comments from a guy who's been shacked up with Bert all these years. ;\)

Going to chat with Mr. Noodle now...

No problem, and I was joking anyways. There can be two. If you are actually a chemist then I think Beaker certainly fits best. Maybe I can change to another unclaimed Muppet like Sam the Eagle. Is that is allowed?

I’m not much for public speaking, or any derivative of that. I also like my anonymity and don’t really BS much, at all…ever. So keeping that in mind, I never thought I’d be around this place as long as I have and I most definitely never thought I’d have a post count in the 4 digit range. The thought of including an avatar didn’t occur to me before as well. I rather like it though. And considering that most folks think I’m grumpy anyway, it fits…… I’m keeping it.

<SamTheEagleVoice>So unless there are any objections I am switching to Sam the Eagle, and letting a401classic have Beaker. He, afterall, is a chemist- which is a fine and honorable profession. I am honored and feel it my civic duty to share.

It is the American way... (Medic8r whispering in Sam's ear)... It is the Canadian way. </SamTheEagleVoice>.

So, if I count correctly, 38 Muppet characters (multiples counting as multiples) have been claimed or assigned, and of those, 27 have Muppet avatars.

Awesome!

If we don't count the 5 Axiom staff who were assigned characters (Ian, Amie, Jean-Claude, Alan, Debbie - although Amie did more or less assign herself and Debbie), then we have 27/33 = 82% avatar participation in this group project.

I say we twist some more arms until JohnK, chesseroo, prototype3a, spiffnme, jakewash, and BBIBH comply with the will of the people.

Dave, You are a gentleman and a scholar (please note the mortar board on Sam!). Yes, I'm really a chemist. Been in industry 20-odd years now and I've really had fires at the bench and I didn't look too much different than our friend Beaker here when it happened.

As a newer mbr to the board I thought I would choose the oldest muppet - Pierre the French Rat - mais oui

Pierre the French Rat was one of Jim Henson's first puppets, and the oldest surviving today. Pierre was created in a comic strip that Henson drew for his high school yearbook in 1954 -- and when he had the opportunity to create puppets for The Junior Morning Show in 1955, Pierre was embodied as a puppet made of plastic wood.

Pierre later appeared in Sam and Friends.

The Pierre puppet is held by the Jim Henson Company Archives; it's been put on display in traveling exhibits.

The original Pierre comic strip, "Pierre the French Rat Visits NHS," is reprinted in the 2001 book Jim Henson's Designs and Doodles.

Actually Pierre is 3 years older than I am

OK. I want to be Don Music. How do I learn to load a picture for my avatar?
Posted By: Ajax Re: [tomtuttle] If we were the muppets... - 07/06/08 03:33 AM
There are two horizontal menus at the top of each forum page. On the lower of the two, click on the arrow next to "My Preferences," and then click on "My Profile." Toward the bottom of your profile page you'll find the choices for adding an avatar.

1. Find an image you like (Don Music);
2. If necessary, reduce it's size (it must be smaller than 80x80 pixels; and must be a .gif, .jpg, .png image file);
3. Host the image at an internet photo hosting service (many of us use Photobucket.com but there are others);
4. Copy the image's url to your computer's clipboard;
5. Paste the url into the avatar area on your "My Profile" page where indicated.

Good one, Mark.

Mad Men seems primarily about sex and smoking in the early 1960's. The golden age of cocktails. What's not to like?

I'm only about halfway through the first season, but it's smart enough and it looks pretty good. Frankly, I need the storylines to get a little more compelling, as the impeccable period aesthetic is only going to seduce me for so long. You can get it via D*TV VOD, although the video quality isn't as good.
