Ick. Buttons. How 20th century. ;\)

I think I'll keep my iPhone.

Depends on the integration application as much as anything.

We're on Verizon. Your carrier matters, too.

I had pretty good luck with a Razr (because I hacked it and then used Motorola Phone Tools).

I had really bad luck with my daughter's LG Chocolate, because the Verizon/LG software sucks mightily.

I'm cautiously optimistic about my newish Palm Centro; it uses WMP and PTunes.

I don't think there is a serious rival to the iPhone in this regard.

Thinking about getting a 3G Iphone myself, how do you like it?

I have a Gen 1 iPhone, so not the new 3G one.

Honestly? I love it. And I'm a Windows guy. Absolutely NOT a Mac fan-boy. It's not perfect, but it's a whole lot better than any other smartphone/PDA I've ever used. And I've owned dozens of PocketPC's, Palm's, Blackberries, and even a Psion over the years. Voice quality is great. eMail is great (though not *quite* as good as a Blackberry, but close). Web browsing is the best on any non-full-blown-PC device I've ever used. The 2.0 update and the App store works really well. Sound quality with music is great, and the screen is big enough to actually enjoy video.

I only have a couple of criticisms of it. One, the continued lack of MMS makes it a PITA to share pictures with email-deficient phone users. And two, the lack of storage space. I'd need a 40+GB iPhone to be able to hold my entire music collection. So with 8GB, I have to pick-and-choose what I want. Kind of a pain, so my iPod Classic remains my primary portable music device.

Just announced,
Microsoft and Nokia rumors have been confirmed that they are indeed working on a Zune phone. Could this mean an phone with 80GB of tunage?

Maybe, but these rumors come and go so I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm a firm believer that competition is good. So bring it on!

Interesting that Nokia & M$ would pair up. Certainly an interesting combo. Don't know how well a Zune-phone would really do, as the Zune has sort of been a dud in the marketplace. On the other hand, Nokia knows their stuff when it comes to phones.

I am pretty sure that Apple could make an iPhone with more storage tomorrow if they wanted to. the iPod Touch is available now with 32GB, and so there's no reason why an iPhone couldn't be made with 32GB too. I think the decisions of space are based on marketing rather than engineering.

actually peter its not really buttons the phone has a glass like overlay for the keys and a nav wheel in the middle for scrolling through everything along with haptic touch

Yes they are. They're just touch sensitive and under glass instead of being mechanical. They're still hard-wired buttons in specific locations.

To each his own. I'm sure it's a fine phone. I'm just not a Motorola guy. The Razr was an iconic success for it's time, but Motorola hasn't come up with anything interesting since.

Despite being a mac fan{mumble} as previously expressed, I gotta say that I'm most unimpressed with the lack of the following in my iPhone 3G:

1) No copy and paste (still!!!).

2) No direct way of getting the photos I take with the iPhone camera to a Mac. Amazingly, I could get them easily transferred to my wife's windoze box via Picasa!

3) What's with this supposed vetting of apps by Apple? What a joke.

But other than that, like the Mac OS itself, the workflow is just great. Mobile phones have been such crap before now.

My wife - for her ACT consulting work - needs Windows Mobile, so she just got an HTC Touch Mobile , and I was surprised to see how many features were borrowed from the iPhone. But again, somehow the other folks miss the mark . . .

Regards,
David

Amen.

My one and only significant complaint about the iPhone. I have no idea why Apple hasn't figured out that people would like to be able to cut and paste text. I'm reminded of how irritating this is every time I'd like to track a FedEx/UPS/DHL package on my iPhone.

My one and only significant complaint is that it can KILL You.

iPhone can Kill you

I especially liked the Zune comment.

They removed it \:\(

What was the Zune comment?

Ohh, too bad.

He was referring to the iPhone as America's greatest national threat as he pretended to misinterpret all the recent articles about the secret application kill switch they embedded in the phone. At some point he says.

"Why didn't I buy a Zune? It can't kill you.......or do anything at all!"
