Bingo. I just came to this same realization about a week ago. I had been | |<-- this close to buying a PS3 a few months ago when I learned that they had SACD support.
But thought I'd wait until Christmas and make it a gift to myself & family. In gearing up to buy one, I double-checked the specs on the 'newer' models. Nope, No SACD support any more. Phooey!
Six months ago, a friend of mine bought a PS3. The salesman explained the 100$ difference between the 40G and the 60G as "more disk space for Internet games". My friend bought the 40G... and is now looking for a SACD player!

Nothing to do with SACD being dead. Sony was just trying to find a way to cut cost because they still sell the PS3 below cost. SACD was not a deal-maker for the PS3 so they dropped it.
OK, everybody told me about the 6th Ave "AVS" deal on the Denon 3808 (was told $1099 today).

Pre-Black-Friday deals page, where they show the Panasonic 35 Blu-Ray player for $229 (already a good price), but it INCLUDES two BD titles. Unfortunately, the guy I talked to knows nothing about the titles...how their chosen, where they come from, etc...

I checked Panasonic.com, and sure enough, they show a two-BD movie mail-in offer. (I was there a couple of days ago and didn't see it, so it must be a newish promo). Amazingly, I just told Joyce a couple of hours ago that the first two movies I'd likely buy would be Nightmare Before Christmas and Ratatouille, and those are the two movies being offered.... AMAZING COINCIDENCE!
But here's the thing: The rebate form says in fine print on the bottom: "Store receipts must emanate from same
state as consumer." There was a bit of talk of this on the AVS forum, but nothing definitive. Has anyone ever heard of a rebate that forces you to buy local?

Well, I decided to order it, but Sears won't let you order something if it's temporarily out of stock. So they take your e-mail address and will send a notice when it's back in stock. In the meantime however the "price is subject to change". Aaargh.

Even if you found a better deal (unlikely), chances are that after you add tax you wouldn't beat the 6ave price(6ave does not charge tax). Of course you should mention that when you file your state tax return though....
Still, it doesn't hurt to look though.

amazing deal on the Band of Brother's Blu-Ray set. $55 for a 6-disc set is pretty tough to beat.
The audio from that series is quite simply superb. The series is top notch overall, but the audio is something else.
Unfortunately it's such a sad series that I'm not sure I could watch it more than once every few years, so for me it's still a better rental/netflix than purchase, but for this price it's tempting.

Well, that sucked. I was late catching up with online stuff tonight, and I found out Fallout 3: Collector's Edition for the Xbox 360 was $50 yesterday on Amazon.com. Unfortunately, I found out at 12:16am today. It still showed up as $50, so I went to the product page to put it in my shopping cart, and the price had been adjusted up to $60. Still better than the normal price, but not enough to make me go for it. I really hope they do more than a $20 cut on the Survival Edition sometime.
Fallout 3 is a really fun game, but I just can't get into it as much as Oblivion. I guess I dig swords, spells, and horses more than guns, radiation, and exploding brains...

Yeah, I was kind of afraid of that. I think I may have the same experience with it. I'm sure I'll still want to play through it at some point, though.
Don't get me wrong- it is a great game- very detailed, fun, and def. a massive world. However- the world is kind of bland compared to oblivion. After all, everything has been nuked by an atomic bomb or two so the world is pretty much in ruins.
I have about 20 hours into it so far and really look forward to completing it... but it is definitely not an elder scrolls game.
I liked the game, but was kinda disappointed when I found out you can't get your character past level 20, I'm one of those find everything and level to the max players.

It depends alot on which salesman you get, as you know FS is owned by BB now but they have a different sales approach (mainly high pressure, lol). FS is commission based, presumably any additional discount they give you comes out of that commission. I had one guy at FS show me a list of upcoming sales and told me he could "do better" than the listed prices. He undercut the sale price on a receiver that was on sale by another 15%. Also depends on the markup of course.
Well, the sale on the TV ends tomorrow so as things look right now I'm going to pull the plug and get it either tonight or tomorrow. I have some questions and it would be greatly appreciated if you guys could help me out ASAP because as mentioned I may be going in after supper. First and most important and I know it's come up on the forum before is can you turn a plasma on its side or in any other position other than upright? This is a large TV and the only way I'm going to get it downstairs would be turning it 180° to get it through a doorway and down the stairwell or into my elevator and down it. Also, could you guys give me any suggestions as to how far off the floor it should be. I don't have the money for a stand right now so I was thinking of having something made out of plywood and painting it, hoping it won't look too cheap.

Re TV stand, do you have any furniture clearance places near you, ie. Sears, The Bay ect. You could pick up a decent table or cabinet at cheap$$ at some of these warehouses.
That's a great idea Adrian, I guess I could check out the Habitat for Humanity store in town, I think it really depends on the height off the floor. I sit 10 feet away from the TV, I guess I could also base it on the height that my current television screen is at? Or should the height change because it's a widescreen?

Cam, if you are sitting low (i.e., couch level) you can use a coffe table to hold the TV. I am using one for my RPTV and the hight puts the sweet spot right where i need it. Plasma has a much wider viewing angle so you have more options, but as far as costs go, a used or cheap coffee table might be less than other options and more practicle. Mine has a lower shelf that fits my AVR, Center, and Cable box. (Mine was free as the neighbors needed to store it!)

A good friend has been receiver shopping for a few months and hit the motherload yesterday. He bought a Denon AVR-3808CI yesterday at our local Best Buy for $699. Yes. $699. That's $1,000 off MSRP. It was an open box special, but all of the parts were there and not even unwrapped. In absolutely perfect shape, as far as he can tell.
Now if I can just convince him to buy some Axioms....

The prices at Circuit City are starting to get interesting.
As many know, their clearance prices were not that great to begin with - often higher than what you'd get online. But this past weekend I re-visited a local store and found that some of what they had left was now reaching a point where I'd call it a 'good deal'.
Of possible special interest to my Axiom friends would be things like Logitech Harmony One remotes for $179, ($191 on Amazon).
We picked up a Logitech ipod/iphone dock/clock/stereo system for my wife's office for $99, when the best price I could find on Amazon (man, I love the Amazon iPhone app) was $150+. Prices on PS3 games and BluRay movies were also starting to look pretty good, although the selection was dwindling.
The only catch is that at least at my local store, the shelves are starting to look pretty picked-over. Not a ton of selection left.
And one word of advice - check over whatever you're buying before you leave the store. Open the box. Check it. Our store had a couple of tables set up and were encouraging people to do so. I've been reading a few horror stories on other forums of people getting home to find parts missing from stuff that was supposed to be brand new. And in that case you're SOL.
Anyway, I'd say that if you have a CC in the neighborhood, it might be worth checking out. You never know what you might find.

There is a local store that is going out of business, mostly cheaper/discontinued or refurbished electronics(flea market stuff). I thought I'd check out what they had anyway...most of it was garbage but I saw he had boxes of various cables, wires ect, so I asked him if he had any spools of speaker wire (14 gauge), to which he said he had some in his warehouse location in T.O. How much? he said they were in 50 ft lengths and then asked me how many I wanted, thinking I was a wholesaler or something. It was a stretch for me, but I played dumb and asked him again what his price was...if I were to buy his entire stock of approx 1000 units of 50 ft he would sell them for $2.00 each. I wonder if it's really 14 gauge or not(you had to see the mess in this store), a bargain if it is for someone.
If it were decent cable, I'd consider buying them and eBaying them. Then again, it might not be worth the hassle...

Just came back from Best Buy. Picked up three games: Pure, The Bourne Conspiracy, and Infinite Undiscovery.
Yeah, the aisle was a little packed. A fair amount of people were waiting for the doors to open, me included. As soon as I figured out most of them were heading for the game aisle I tipped over a display case to impede everyone. Free pickings for me!

I went to bestbuy myself at about 12:30pm. I grabbed infinite undiscovery for myself and clive barkers: jericho for a buddy. When he beats that one I'll be borrowing it from him since it looked pretty cool.
I almost grabbed quake wars for 9.99 as well but reminded myself that I still have to beat killzone 2.
I was not as impressed with the ps3 selection as the 360 selection.

If you're wondering why you wouldn't just buy multiple 1600 point codes instead of 4000, it's because you can only get one credit per household. I only went with the 1600 points. HMV has extended their $7.00 off of a Blue Ray promo, when you trade in a used DVD and buy a BD (from a list of 100+ BDs) you get the $7.00 discount, until the end of June. This promo was mentioned earlier this year on the forum and at the time I had noticed that they had increased some of their pricing to counter the promo on a few BDs whose pricing I was familiar with. Today I was at HMV and it would appear that the prices on those BDs is more in line with the prices I remembered, so with the promo extension, it might be worth checking out.

Don't trust Walmart's prices. I've found many items to be significantly cheaper online, but when you go to the store, they either don't have the item (online they offer a lot more than what is in the stores) or if it is something that they have in the store, the store price is considerably more. I asked them several times about this and they say that they have different prices online vs. in-store, and they only "price match" competitors, not their own company. So if target.com had something cheaper, they would match it, but not their own web site.

I might have beat Wallyworld at it's own game last night. I needed a gas can and it was close to the grocery store I dropped my wife into so (hating grocery getting) I also browsed the Home Entertainment section. A clerk was filling a shelf with older, $19.00 dollar BlueRays and I glanced in her box and saw a single Watchmen BD. I patiently waited for her to add it to the display and sure enough it had a $19.00 label.
After asking if all these BDs were $19.00 and she just looked at me as if I were too stupid to read the labels myself, I decided that her rudeness was enough to quash any guilt I had and headed for the checkout.
I remember going into our local Best Buy (few years ago)with an advertisement in hand from the Toronto Sun from Sam The Record Man(downtown TO) for a DVD on special, I think Sam's had it for around $25 where BB was wanting aroud $29. I walk up to the BB salesguy and ask him, "do you guys price match?"....."yes sir, we do, as long as the price is advertised and they have it in stock"
...."OK, Sam's is selling this DVD for less than you guys(I show him the advert) so do I just take this up to the cash and let them discount it?"....he takes a look at the advertisement..."No, we don't recognize Sams"....I look at him rather puzzled
..."What do you mean?"....he says "We don't price match with Sam's, we don't expect people to drive downtown from here".....I reply..."So what you are saying is you have SELECTIVE price matching, correct?"
I argued with this guy for a while, as well as another salesman, then more-a-less told them what their price matching policy was worth. I then went to Future Shop, which incidentally is OWNED by BB, explained the situation I had encountered at BB and the young lady who was head of the dep't couldn't figure out why they wouldn't match the price. I hand her the advertisement and she says "Let me call them to make sure they have stock"....she calls them and says to me "No problem, they have several, so we'll match the price."
Either these companies are going to price match or not, they can't say things like "We'll beat any price" if they're not going to do it.
Just to get a little historical here, the original "Sam The Record Man" was a landmark store right in downtown T.O. famous for it's huge neon record signs facing Yonge St. They had been around since the 1930's and had great prices on records, everyone in Ontario and most of Canada knew of this store and any visitors would have remembered it. The original Sams closed it's doors a couple of years ago
, but there are still a couple of them around in other cities.

Two movies that Joyce loved (Polar Express and The Last Samurai) and the three disc set of Planet Earth. Total cost was $31, even with shipping. Seinfeld box set, I would have bought that, as well as

The Doors Legacy/Absolute Best , it's absolutely loaded with remastered hits on two cd's for only $15 CN. Rhino did an incredible job with this release, hearing these songs "properly" makes them sound like "new" songs, as if I'd never heard them before. Great job Rhino. Also, HMV has similar collections of the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac amongst others at $15. If they are of the same quality as the Doors/Legacy remaster, I'm sold.

It's an amazing game. I highly recommend playing it with a mouse, rather than a trackpad, though. With a trackpad, it's hard to move fast enough.
I've been playing Anno 1404 (also called Dawn of Discovery) and it's a great game. Extremely graphic intensive, one of the most graphic intensive games out yet, so I've read. So intensive that I need to run everything at "medium" because my EVGA 8800 GT gets too warm and I freeze up; I had to lower my GPU overclock back to stock.
Time for one of the new EVGA 300 series cards when their released in a couple weeks.

I found "A Mediterranean Odyssey" by Loreena McKennitt at Walmart for $12.72 CAD. Excellent deal for a double CD compared with most of her CD's(usually around $15-25 for a SINGLE cd). First cd has many songs colected from various releases over the years and the second cd has a nice selection of songs played live on her Mediterranean tour from earlier this year. Highly recommended for either loyal fans or for anyone who's curious to sample some of her efforts at a great price. Highly, highly recommended.

I bought Up from Amazon as a pre-order for the kids for Christmas. Not sure it is worth the hassle of returning it to get the others on Blu-Ray. I enjoyed Cars and Monsters, Inc, but just not sure that they will get enough play time to justify the return and re-order (I've never returned anything to Amazon). Otherwise, that would be a great deal for me.
I highly recommend Cars on Blu-ray. It's one of my favorites. Great demo scene: the first few minutes of the film, with Sheryl Crow's song.

I seem to remember something about holding a microphone thingee up to the sky(to summon Ultraman maybe?). Was that from Ultraman(one episode maybe) or could be from a different show back then. Of course, the Japanese Monster movies(Godzilla, Rodan ect) were a huge hit with us as kids.

Seems like about everytime I buy the 2D version of a 3D movie, they release it in 3D a week later.

MCACC is not as good by any reviews I have seen. It also still has the same problems , for some it works, others not so much.
I have had some really good luck with MCACC on my 6 year old Pioneer Elite receiver, but its got some additional bells and whistles that some of the more basic models didn't have back then.
I have sense turned off most of the MCACC pieces and have tuned things the way that I like them. That seems to be what a lot of the Audyssey do (at least from what I've read). It is more of a quick fix, and then when people get their SPL meter out, they tune things properly after shutting it off.
Then again, there are a LOT of Pioneer haters out there and since MCACC is a Pioneer only feature, they must hate it too.
I've had great luck with all of my Pioneer gear that I've owned over the years, but when I do V4.0 of my theater, I will be ready for a new receiver again and will look hard at other brands. Who knows what I'll end up with.
I was browsing for a good cheap HT projector and I happened to stumble upon

Well, here's the thing....let's say you find something you want to buy on Amazon....a PC router for $99. You do a bit of searching on the 'net and find that the deal on Amazon is actually from a dealer out of state that you could order from directly and definitely pay NO TAX, then neither would you pay tax in Washgtn. I believe if Amazon is warehousing the product in question or the prod actually comes from Wash state, then you'd pay tax. Most of what I get through my aunt's address are tools...sometimes there's tax, sometimes not.

I researched this issue about 20 years ago and came to the conclusion that income-tax evasion is only for those that love to be coddled by guys that are bigger than themselves.

Besides criminal prosecution, taxation, investments and estate planning has been my main area of legal practice, and I'd no more countenance a government robbing with an "illegal" tax than I would a sleeze doing it with a gun. Questions about whether the present income tax, or any income tax for that matter, is "fair" are a valid subject for debate(but political, social, etc. questions don't belong here to needlessly arouse antagonisms), but whether it's legal is a well-settled matter. Hundreds of cases, including several in the U.S. Supreme Court, have unambiguously ruled on the various claims raised. Probably the best online source is
this "Tax Protester FAQ" by Atty. Evans, which I've cited on another board in furnishing financial and legal assistance. It's very lengthy, but you should be informed on the subject since you have an interest in it.
I think everyone pays tax to avoid the trouble with the law.
I can promise you that any tax that was truly voluntary would not get paid by me.

Thanks for posting that resource, John. I started watching the documentary Cam linked to and it generated many questions. All of the court cases featured in the documentary in which the income tax-avoiding defendants were victorious were jury cases. One in particular found for the defendant because the judge could or would not provide them with a law (or laws) giving the I.R.S. authority to compel the defendant to pay or face consequences. It certainly gives the tax protesters ammunition even if they are in the wrong.

John, I did make note in my last post that there had been numerous (22 from my research) court cases by the Supreme Court that have ruled on the legality of the income tax. But, we are talking about a corrupt Supreme Court that makes rulings in the vested interests of the rich and powerful; the most notable one being Bush vs. Gore. The justice system works from the top down, and those of the very top, are the most questionable individuals in society. Fundamentally, I don't believe that any society, but more importantly its current structure, should be presided over by a group of people that have little or nothing in common with whom their supposedly making decisions for. For clarification purposes, that's my take on the Supreme Court, and the joke that it is.

I enjoyed both Mafia games. As it turns out, I just finished the sequel last night. Excellent atmosphere and a well scripted game throughout. I only wish there were some extras hidden in the city to entice more exploration. The city itself was beautifully rendered.
A surprise for me, and probably the greatest in-game collectible, Playboy magazines are strewn throughout the missions. My only gripe is that these can only be found within the missions. Really detracts from the pacing and tension having to search and search and search for magazines.
Such is the price for dirty pictures.
I enjoyed the linear and story focused gameplay of Mafia II as well. The length was too short however. On the other hand I do love having the ability of choosing from 7+ side missions with the ability to do main missions like in a lot of sandbox games

Bruno, I was concerned about shipping/handling/duty charges as well. So recently I ordered a unique item for my son's bday that was selling for ~$40 on the .com site but was $120 on the .ca site. We wanted the item no matter what, so I figured even if I got nailed with extra fees it could not end up being more expensive than the .ca site with free shipping anyway. Short version - I paid $8 for shipping which was clearly stated up front and when I received the item there were no extra fees whatsoever. So I expect the same for this order of the Matrix trilogy on BR. I was billed ~$38 total including shipping and don't expect any extra charges. I'll update if I do end up getting charged extra.

I bought/watched the movie Serenity a few times, always thinking I was missing something, not knowing what it was, then a Google search revealed Firefly. I first rented it, then bought it on DVD. Later it became available on blu-ray and I bought that one also. I think I paid around $50 for it from Amazon at the time. It's one of my favorite TV Sci-Fi shows. It's a shame there was only one season. Made by Joss Whedon, who also made Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Dollhouse, plus other stuff.

MCACC has served me well over the years, but my next receiver will have Audyssey as I want to give that a whirl. MCACC is a "single sweet spot" type of tool similar to Audyssey, but I want multi-point calibration next time. Of course, it will cost me about 2.5x this receiver's price to get it.

Audyssey - Easy;more of a one shot deal;cannot make certain adjustments afterwards because it adversely affects the filters
MCACC - Initial setup is easy; certain models only take one listening point, as opposed to audysseys 3, 6, or more; once you take your readings, it's highly customizable interface allows for all kinds of tweaking, but you need to read up on it.
YPAO - Simplest of the bunch, I dont know if it applies filters, but it does the chirp thing to set speaker levels and such; was generally commented as the worst of the bunch

Yea, I used MCACC as mentioned above. It would do the main setup, but I could tweak it to my liking. Now I am reading that Audyssey (which does a more advanced setup with MultEQ XT for example) doesn't let you tune it afterwards since that will kill their filters..... Wow. So I may end up paying a good chunk of money mainly to get a feature that I might end up turning off???? Wowza. Might need to see about buying from someone with a good return policy.

I read in the newspaper this weekend that they have unearthed a Woolly Mammoth carcass from the ice that was so well preserved that they have enough intact DNA from the bone marrow to clone it. They have already determined that an elephant embryo is sufficiently compatible and the article left little doubt that they would have it done in two years time.

Yeah, but I was #1741 in line or something... So I "invited" 3 friends. I picked my wife, my daughter, and one of my alternative emails. Still no luck, however, my wife was able to get 100% access instantanously. So basically, the initial requester, me, couldn't get access, but someone (my wife) who was invited by someone else that didn't have access (again, me) gets right in.

I love the utility knife that I picked up for scoring and trimming drywall...
Load it up with some blades, and when one goes dull, press the red "blade release" button, pull out the dull blade, slide back the slider on the top and then push it back out to reveal a new, sharp blade without having to take the darn thing apart.
Of course, then I just take the blade with the one dull end, flip it around and put it back into the storage/loading compartment. Might as well use both ends of the blade until they are both dull.
So cool and less than $11 at Amazon.

I was going to go with a plate amp, but I like the clean look of a component such as a receiver, and since they are just bass shakers, a simple 2 channel will even work. I don't know if the international restriction is due to the tax laws or just bad music industry policy... I guess that they fail to realize, they could either make a little money from people who would be willing to pay. Or, make 0 money because the equally easy alternative is to just download the same MP3 from any number of sites.
Another thing that i don't really understand is the fact that the movie industry did not seem to learn anything from what the music industry went through in the late 90's-early 2000's.. Now that more people have more bandwidth, and with the invention of bit torrent, anyone can find pretty much any movie quite easily... Yet, it seems like hollywood is still resisting selling their product for a lower price.. Again, due to the alternative being free, for many people the decision is easy...

I hope you've all been enjoying the Steam Summer Sale. I think it's over after today. I've spent too much, and now I must pinch pennies again if I'm ever going to afford that new display I want. It's pretty sick, though. I'm up to owning 495 games (all of them installed, too, with plenty of space left on a 2 TB dedicated game drive). Now I just need to be better about playing them. Ha ha.
So far I've tried out a few I got from the recent sales, and a few that I bought a while ago but never opened: Bookworm Adventures Deluxe (super addicting for someone like me), Tiny and Big: Grandpa's Leftovers (cool visual style, promising gameplay), Crysis 2 Maximum Edition (we'll see if I just feel clumsy and slow the whole time), Dear Esther (creepy atmosphere, striking visuals), Amnesia: The Dark Descent (more creepy atmosphere and striking visuals), Quantum Conundrum (not deep enough into it to know what to think yet, but there's potential), Rayman Origins (again, great art style, but it's obvious I don't play platformers enough anymore). Now I just need to spend 5 minutes on all of the other games I've bought, and that should get me to my day of reckoning.

Alien - Total Destruction Collection at Costco in November for $20. I did watch, or rather endure, them all. Alien and Aliens are still good, IMO, and Predator I always found entertaining for one reason or another, but the rest went from just plain bad to truly awful.

Ken, i have an older (by todays standards) Sony BDP S350 and i replaced it with an oppo and i can not see the difference between the 2 or them on a 60inch plasma . The oppo does play sacd's and it upscales dvd to near BD quallity. i bought a BD player for my parents on sale at bestbuy for around 75 and they love it. So you could probly afford both,but then you would have to buy more blurays ,which means no fence. lol

I've been playing both DVDs & Blu Rays from my BDP-S590 on my new Sony KDL55HX850. Absolutely stunning PQ & audio performance. Upscaling 'The Wild, Wild West' DVD produced visuals that were indistinguishable from BD to my eye.
Haven't tried 3D though - not much in to it.
If they are still available, the S590 is a great buy.

So like most of the owners, we got a nice email today... So it got me thinking... Maybe now is the time to prep for Dolby Atmos by replacing my four QS8s (two from December 2004, and two from just about 3 years ago) for four M3s to get away from the (awesome) quad-polar design and into the direct radiating surround speakers that Atmos really needs.
So I started messing around with numbers...
If I trade in all 4 QS8s (not cheap speakers) AND my VP150 from December 2004, with all replacement shipping boxes and shipping labels, it would cost me $1.30 to get a single pair of M3s...
Then I would just have to get a second pair of M3s and a $3.50 RCA adapter (to get over $500) and I could use the $250 coupon.
That would get me to what I need for $252.80, but boy that seems like I am sending back a LOT of expensive speakers AND still having to pay a small chunk of money to end up with less complex/expensive speakers than I started with.
I also have a $60 referral credit that I've been sitting on for a while, but I don't know if I could use that too.
IF ANYONE FROM AXIOM READS THIS, WORK WITH ME PRETTY PLEASE.
$192.80 is at least a little better for a "lesser," but still great set of speakers to be used as surrounds.

Just used the $250 Christmas credit I received from Axiom. Turns out it is actually $250 USD so I saved even more on my EP175 Subwoofer. I just got sold my JBL NL150, so I am currently subwooferless and have to wait 10+ days for the EP175 to arrive, but its worth it. Does anyone here have an EP175 or higher? I took advantage of the gift card to solve my issue of missing decent speakers in the TV room since I moved everything to the HT room. Some M3s are on the way.
Of course thier marketing ploy worked and I bought an extra item as I couldn't pass up the VP180 for $579 in the refurb store. It doesn't match my colors but for that price I don't care. It's dark in the HT room anyways.
The refurb price was cheaper than a trade-up so the VP150 will be re-joining the TV again.

She decided to get them in the Ebony custom vinyl. Anyone else have that? I'm pretty much locked into Boston Cherry for my main system, but I'm glad the custom vinyl only adds extra days instead of cost now, and I want to take advantage of that if I ever have a secondary system.
I like the idea of real wood, but I have a hard time justifying the cost when I got several samples and couldn't necessarily rank them higher than the vinyls. Of course, samples are never the same as seeing a full speaker.

Whoa, I can't believe my speakers are already in Spokane. That means I'll probably get them on Monday. And Axiom was also really quick with my friend's M22s. She got the Ebony custom vinyl and a custom label, which they say adds 10 days, but hers shipped only one day after mine.
I would have gotten my M22s yesterday, but no one was around to sign. I signed the door tag, and they were left today. My online friend got hers yesterday. Axiom was on the ball. I'm still waiting to hear my friend's impressions. She works a lot, so she hasn't had serious time yet to listen.
I have mine unboxed, but I won't have the opportunity to play around with them until the weekend, and I'm not sure how much I'll do, but I'm excited to have them.

Well, after a couple of months wait, my HG Rosewood M22V4s arrived today. Being enveloped in a fine cloth sack was a nice touch & the aroma wafting out of the carton was wonderful.
They are a work of art & well worth the wait. The Cabinet Crew should be justly proud of their work - my thanks to them.
The newest colour of the veneer is more red than the previous rosewood, but they look way better next to the older coloured EP-800s' than the black vinyl. The new attachment hardware to the FMS-16 stands is better & more solid than the previous V3 type as well.
We christened them with a movie tonight at -10 Db - 'Lucy' Blu Ray. Really quite an interesting story & very enjoyable - worth a watch IMO.
The new M22V4s sounded as good as they look. I'll run an Audyssey calibration soon but I expect little change from the V3s...

One note is that I emailed the local Anthem dealer to see if they knew anything about new models being released.

Makes sense that they would try to clear some inventory before the next models came out. I still can't believe that the current models are as old as they are. They announced the current MRX lineup at the end of 2015. I bought my MRX 1120 in late February 2016 and (since it has been so long and the deal is LONG dead that I can talk about it) I paid only $3000 CAD shipped and all for it from an authorized reseller/installer. That was about $2250 USD in 2016. Quite the steal...
I could probably sell it for what I paid for it if I timed it right... LOL

Yeah, but I don't use Arc (I do use ARC though. LOL) so eArc isn't needed for me. I am just outputting to a projector and not using my display as an audio input for my receiver.

Yeah, it's not a feature I need, either. I haven't found a single streaming device that does everything I want, but I'm not using any of those features on my TV. I tried Netflix on my Xbox One X and Fire TV Stick 4K (and I may have tried it on my UHD Blu-ray player as well), and they both had audio sync issues with 4K content. Thankfully I was able to get 4K and Atmos to work fine in the Netflix Windows 10 app. For Hulu, HBO, and Amazon content, I'm using my Fire TV Stick. I don't like that they all seem to limit resolution on web playback now, and you have to use an app or streaming device. Gotta love how splintered everything is for both content and hardware. The consumer experience.
Agreed. There is a company (I don't recall the name as it still is somewhat early in testing) that has a product that is supposed to be a sort of "menu" for all of the other apps. It has its own guide that is supposed to show everything available to you on the main apps out there that you pay for. You pick what you want to watch, it launches the appropriate app and fires up the specific show that you picked.
As you can imagine, getting all of that content coded in from companies that are competitors has to be pretty tricky.
Now is a good time to pick up some UHD Blu-rays.

Uhh... I've bought from Amazon.com a lot. That's what Blu-ray.com overwhelmingly links to, and if you look at the listings, they do say shipped from and sold by Amazon.com, so it's not some random third party. Occasionally the extreme deals like this do have that long lead time, unfortunately, if you don't happen to jump on them as soon as they're listed. I've done the long wait a couple of times for certain deals, and they do eventually materialize, and usually well before the estimate.
