Just wanted to stop thread crapping on the Townhouse thread (thought it was dead, but is wasn't)... Anyway - Week 5 pix (4 weeks to go):

I think I'm as jealous as I've ever been.

Beautiful home. Beautiful family. Hope you are enjoying both!
Very nice, Steve. There is no such thing as a yard that big down here in SoCal. I am envious indeed.

Hmm, maybe it's time I relocate. . .
Yeah. Hearst Castle doesn't qualify as SoCal, does it... \:\)
Well,

Just got the okay from the "boss" to buy Axiom speakers number 10 and 11... A pair of Algonquins for the upper deck! I just placed the order. Need 7 more Axioms (and I still have not received the buyer's club invite, even after Brent said the request was forwarded to the webmaster).

Week 5 + 3 days pic...

That rock work is really spectacular, Steve.

What is the width? About 27'? Nice.
Wow Tom,

Exactly 27' wide! The addition is 18x27, patio is 10x27, pergola 12' throw.

Another pic of the rock work:

Ahh, You just ruined it for me, I thought it was you doing all the work. \:\)

Looks great! So when's the first party?
Just one question.. are the woman and child load-bearing?

Bren R.

The looks awesome Steve, I really do like the stone work .... the outdoor speakers ought to look and sound right at home there.

Ew.

\:D
Steve - if you're putting the Algonquins on the pergola - definitely consider the spiced rum color. Your deck looks like it has a similar finish to mine, and the spiced rum blended great there. (even better than it looks below as the flash reflects more off the speaker paint than it does the deck)

this was not what I was expecting from the title

Chess - what is the code you input to do that show/hide magic in the last post?
Jason,

The pic you saw before is the patio, not the upper deck. As of end of work today, the deck now looks like this:

The sunroom will be trimmed in white just like the rest of the house. I have pre-wired the speakers to be placed under the eve's, above the one circle you see for lighting (there is another one on the other side of the door that you can't see). So, I went with white here to match the upper deck.

But, I'm holding out on the lower patio outside speaker color until I decide what color to stain the pergola. I agree though, I would probably go with the color you suggested, I just want to see the finished product first.

By the way, thanks for the picture. I wanted to mount the Algonquins sideways like you did, but I wasn't sure if that would be the right thing to do. Is the sound impacted that way?

With the size of his watermelon, he could hold up just about anything. And he does bear many "loads" (like his old man!) ;\)

Thanks Rick, and all, for the kind words. The party can be anytime this spring when it gets nice here in Indy again!
Steve - they sound great sideways. No noticeable difference to me either way (though being outside, it really isn't super-critical listening). I doubt you'll notice any shortcomings. They really do sound great.

it was an option in the full post screen
I never saw it before
kinda freaky
hey is that Trex decking?
Man, I was totally in the wrong neighborhood when I was trying to stop by and say "Hi" on my Indy trip. \:\)

Yep. Trex decking and Trex Artisan railing.
Thanks

Thanks Chess - me either... got it now.
Week 7.5 of 9:

6 new trees (3 Black Hills Spruce, 2 Flowering Pear, and a Flowering Pea (Redbud)) in the backyard to replace the razing.
Nice! I love all the windows in your place.
I like how there's so much brick. Around here, developers like to use brick mostly on the front and save money around back where it doesn't affect curb appeal as much by using vinyl siding nearly top to bottom.

Sure, but just remember everything is unbreakable.
Okay... Week 8/9 is over today...

We have lawn! (Taken in the morning before fire pit was finished):

And, a shot of the fire pit in the afternoon:

As a reminder, this was the before shot:

So when's the "breaking in" party?!?! We need to break in the fire pit, especially on these chilly days!
Looks real nice.
Congrats, looking awesome. How many square feet did the renovations add in total?
Jason,

Thx, I'll be glad when the construction is over! We added about 600 square feet to the interior (3 rooms, the sunroom and playroom are about 180 each, the guest bedroom is about 260). We also added about 350 square feet of patio (which we never had before), and increased the deck square footage from 250 to about 350).

I have a question for all of you with fire pit knowledge. As you can see from the picture above, they put the gas valve on the top of the pit. I'm used to seeing it on the wall of the pit. Since I'm out of town on business, I asked my wife to start the pit for me so I could see what it looks like. The video is here:

https://rcpt.yousendit.com/627567211/7fc7d34149c80b7a6746c3a753e8e448

(It's a big file, like 75MB)...

What it looks like they did was off-center the fire ring to accommodate the valve on the top rather than the side of the pit. She only had the gas about 3/4 up in the video because she said the fire was HUGE when the valve was all the way open (but the fire did not reach the valve).

Is this an accepted practice, or should I request the valve to be moved, and the ring centered?

Steve
I love the fire pit, but you are right, it seems odd that it is off-center like that. I know nothing about how it should be, so maybe that is correct, but I would have thought that the valve could have been put on the outside of the stone ring and with a little extra gas tubing, everything would have lined up nicely...

So, when is the weenies and s'mores roast?
Thanks for the info Nick,

I'd say we all can have a get together/audition for whomever wants this spring when it warms here! 21 degrees today...
Okay, it's been a while.

The work outside is basically done, but we will need to stain the pergola in the spring (it finally got too cold for outside work). The furniture has been delivered for the 3 new rooms (except for the area rugs in the sun room and the playroom). But, here it is as it stands now from the inside:

Partial view (No fairway approach) from guest bedroom:

The guest bedroom bed (room on the left for a massage chair):

Ready for the Plasma and surround sound:

This sucker goes right on the brace when I get home next week:

The sun room (sans area rug... and sun):

The playroom for the kids (sans area rug, and their toys):

Two more... View from the deck and patio on a cold morning:

You have an absolutely gorgeous house but I bet you don't have an elevator. Nana Nana boo-boo \:\) .

Wait, that's definitely a good thing \:\) , yeah, oh well Nana Nana boo-boo!!
THAT'S BEAUTIMOUS! \:D
I take umbrage with that word...
Bleh. :p

The people taking umbrage in this thread are the golfers who are lining up a shot when Steve fires up his twin EP-800 system next spring.

The course average will go up two strokes on that fact alone... ;\)
