Just thought I would share a couple of pics of my new house, we won't be moving in anytime soon as you can see, hopefully by middle of January or a little sooner would good too.

This shot is looking through the master bedroom wall out towards the main family/bonus room where the main HT will be setup. The basement is off limits for now.

Looking good. You running wires to absolutely every conceivable location in every room?

Very nice!

Hey, you can jump onto your neighbors house from your garage, lol. \:\)

Nice!!

Is your backyard a park?

What's the white stuff on the ground? \:o

Snow? Already!! We're 2 months away from even a chance of that white stuff.

Yeah, what is that white stuff on the ground? \:D

Congratulations on the new house!
Posted By: jakewash Re: My New House - 10/21/09 10:59 PM
Ya, we had a few inches of the white stuff early last week, The one pic of the back of the house was taken on Thanksgiving(Canada), The roofer was just starting and then it snowed for 2 days. I was pleasantly surprised to return to the house on the following Saturday to see the roof was completed. \:\)

Yes, the house backs onto a green space, it is a dry pond so I don't have to worry about anything getting built in that area, just have to wonder how good the drainage is out of the area, but we are near the edge and on top of a hill so the drainage should be quick down the hill to yet even more storage ponds near the creek that takes it all away.

Yes we are quite close to our neighbors, min spec for spacing is 8ft between the houses. the lot is pie shaped so we have more room at the back and the houses have much more space between them other than those front corners.

I don't understand why you have not closed in the wall to the theater. I know you are going to be adding a bunch of toys, but damn, the opening to the HT room looks big enough to be a two car garage?

Oh, wait, maybe that is not the HT...shame.

Looking good Jay. It's nice to see the manson you've been talking about

Looking good. Watch out for that Chinese drywall.

That's scary....

I know. Who would think that drywall would be such a nightmare?
Posted By: CV Re: My New House - 10/22/09 04:22 AM
That house looks like it's going to be some serious fun. I can't wait to see how it progresses. I wish I had a new house!

Looks awesome. Nice big garage too.
Building is an exiting time.

Still no snow in the East here except for a very light dusting one morning. We know it's on the way though.
Posted By: tomtuttle Re: My New House - 10/22/09 03:36 PM
Wow. It's a monster!

Very nice, Jay. Warmest congratulations.

Why is the basement off-limits?
Posted By: Murph Re: My New House - 10/22/09 04:29 PM
Same reason we all are terrified of basements.

Basement Kitties.

Posted By: RickF Re: My New House - 10/22/09 05:05 PM
Nice place, looks big ... congrats Jay!

I too am curious why the basement is off limits?
Posted By: DaveG Re: My New House - 10/22/09 05:31 PM
Nice looking place your going to have there.
Posted By: jakewash Re: My New House - 10/22/09 05:45 PM
The house is just shy of 2700sqft with 9' ceilings in the basement and main floor, while the upstairs has vaulted ceilings in the master bedroom and the family/bonus room. It is an open concept floor plan. I will try to post the blue prints once I get them scanned in.

The basement is off limits as we will be building the basement up as a suite for my parents, with them not having any housing costs they can afford to do the things in life they have always wanted to.

Wonderful and generous of you Jay.

My wife is the real wonderful/generous one, to allow/agree with me to make this happen for them...she is amazing.
Posted By: CV Re: My New House - 10/22/09 06:45 PM
We'll all be more impressed when you invite all of us to live there, too.
Posted By: Adrian Re: My New House - 10/22/09 06:45 PM
I always wondered what a terrorist house looked like.

I remember when my house was built, I'd drop by to see what the builders were up to and how far rhe house had progressed each week.

Oddly enough, I do miss the winters (went to college in Indiana for a bit) sometimes. 83 degrees F year around and going to the beach in January can get boring. \:D

Jay,
Awesome that you are having the folks move in! Kudos to you and your wife!
Posted By: Adrian Re: My New House - 10/22/09 07:24 PM
BigHon, oddly enough, my aunt more less said the same thing. She lived all over the US when she was married to a man in the Forces. She lived in the Carolinas, Alaska, Hawaii, France ect and presently in Washington St. She said the weather in Hawaii was nice but monotonous and she always wished she were back in Alaska which she enjoyed the most. To each his/her own...I'm sure others might say the opposite.

Palm trees, sand and ocean for me ... I get cold just from looking at all of the license tags during the winter.

I also attended university in the Midwest (People’s Republic of Madison). If I never have to be near snow again it will be to soon. Actually Hawaii gets a little cold for me. A couple years ago on Pearl Harbor Day I was launching and recovering my plane at Hickam freezing my butt off in the wind and rain.

But surfing in January w/o a wetsuit is always cool. To bad the last 2 times I’ve been there the swells were not even as good as SoCal. What’s the point of going to Hawaii if there’s no surf…oh yeah Japanese girls. ;\)

You know, that is a fairly common statement I hear. Humidity is high here all the time, so when the temps dip and the trade winds pick up, it saps the heat out of you faster than most people think.

A surfer from Arizona! COOL! I tried surfing a few times, and getting dragged all over the reef was not my idea of a good time. Winter swells on the north shore can be flat (relatively speaking) some seasons. With regards to the eyecandy around here, as a happily married man, I can say that its nice to read what is on the menu, but I would never order anything!

Sorry for going OT BTW....

::Planning on throwing a cyber-snowball at Rick as soon as I can::
Posted By: Adrian Re: My New House - 10/22/09 09:23 PM
It's kind of a trade-off....I love the summers around here: hot and basically sunshine from 5:00 am to 9:30pm...but winters, you either love 'em or hate 'em. People who are into winter sports generally love it where people who stay indoors don't. Wintertime means lots of trade shows, car shows, boat shows, woodworking shows ect ect as well.

Yeeouch, that does indeed sound cold ... speaking of cold, I believe it's time for a refill on the Barbancourt Rhum (Five Star) and a little Robert Earl Keen on the DVD.

Cheers Y'all!

I first tried surfing in SoCal when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton. “Popcorn,” our corpsman, was a local and got me in with the other locals around San Clemente. Didn’t really start enjoying or getting any good until I was stationed in Ghana. I started body boarding with some wooden boards that “Sam the Great,” former Ghanaian Olympic swimmer’s, sons rented at Labadi Beach.

Then while I was dating the German Ambassadors daughter her brother brought a 6’1” thruster down for his summer break. He never got the hang of it so he sold it to me because I was the only person in Accra “crazy” enough to body surf/board the Labadi Beach break at that time when it was big. That’s when I went nuts surfing 6-10 hours a day almost every day of the week. There was some nice surf along the Ghanaian coast and best of all in a year and a half I only ran into one other surfer, a guy from Canada out from the World Bank.

Continued surfing when I was stationed in New Zealand and later Sierra Leone. Eventually I accumulated 5 boards ranging from a 5’4” thruster to a 10’4” longboard. Only have 4 now as I gave the 9’6” board to Canadian when I left Sierra Leone. I just realized I met a lot of Canadians when I lived in Africa. Always remember we’d make fun of the way the Brits with us would eat pizza with a knife and fork working from the center out while we’d cut into wedges.

Only places I’ve surfed in the last 2 years are Hawaii, Guam and Okinawa. Nice thing about those places is they’re also tourist destinations for Japanese…girls. ;\)

P.S. Surfing is never OT.
P.P.S. Surfing is better than sex!

Cheers,
Dean

And almost as good as downhill skiing...

Its not surprising it was a Canadian you met on that beach. We're just crazy enough to surf the Atlantic in iceberg territory!

I never really got into surfing. The only time I had a chance was a trip to Hawaii years ago and at that time I was under the mistaken impression that women [sex] were better than skiing/surfing. ;\)

Looking good Jay. The M80's look kind of lonely. Maybe you should get a couple of EP800's to keep them company up front. \:D

2 Ep 800s upfront and the PB13 in behind the couch - sounds good, when are you dropping yours off ;\)

I can't wait till we replace that table in the family room with a proper one or an ottoman. The old table is a bit of an eye sore now that we have all the darker colors.

All I can afford in the Vancouver Area is a townhouse in the Suburbs. Granted, its a *nice* townhouse in a good area... I could buy a dumpy house in a crap area... blah blah blah

I'm jealous. Congrats

They did the front rock work on the house yesterday, I will try to get some pics. It is nice to see it finally finished.

That was a plus, the backyard isn't very big \:\( either but we do have a walkout basement to the ~6 acre field (dry pond) behind us. This way I can let the city look after my back yard ;\)
