I was given a M-117 amp yesterday and while trying to find some info on it there just doesn't seem to be much info on it. Does anyone have any experience with Luxman amps. This amp looks like new and was stored for years, it was my dentist that had it.

The best I did was, I did find some specs on it. It seems to be right around what my Rotel is rated at.

200X2 @ 8ohms
700X1 @ 8ohms
Dynamic power: 300 @ 8, 550 @ 4, 820 @ 2
THD at rated power: 0.03%
IM distortion (SMPTE) @ 200w: 0.007%
Peak short circuit current: 150 amps
Slew rate: 20v/uSec
Damping factor: 130
>60,000uf capactitance

Wow! That sounds like a beast, Rick. Let us know if you can perceive a difference between it and your Rotel.

Nice find! I see there is one on E-Bay listed for $500. I have read favorable reviews of Luxman's integrated amps but I have not heard much about their power amps.

I got the amp hooked up, not to my Axioms, wanted to make darn certain it was in good working condition first. It's running a pair of B&W bookshelves.

I'm not real sure what I'm going to do with it as of yet, guess I could biamp the M80s \:D . If nothing else it'll look impressive.

Time to fire that bad boy up and see what it does. The specs. you have seem pretty impressive. There isn't too much to find on that amp on the net. Let us know how you like it. Might do well with a pair of Maggie 1.6's ;\)

I guess you beat me to it.

Got it hooked up with the Luxman running the top side and the Rotel running the bottom end. Can't say I hear a difference but then again there was no a/b testing.

It sure looks like there should be a difference though

One thing is certain both amps are running really cool. Neither are showing any hint at running even warm. Then again I'd say the M80s are only running 80DB or so, can't find my meter right now.

Found the meter. The 80s are putting out 82-86DB.

I can see your meter, it is right where you left it, just under your name \:\)

So that's about 1 watt, Rick; you got some to spare.

Mojo would be proud \:\)

Mojo would say it is a waste of a perfectly good half-watt.

True for most of his listening, but Mojo would be at the 1 watt range as well when trying things out. We have always run our tests in the 80-85 db range with speakers. When I took my repaired 3808 over to try on his M80s(mine are in storage \:\( )He had me crank it up to about 90db and then I let it loose for about 10 min with 0 reading on the volume control \:\)

It compares favorably to the Rotel. It's a nice amp.
