We picked up Super Mario Wii and are looking at getting one of the "band" games for our Wii.

So, we have 2 Wii Remotes (white) and Nunchuks right now, but when I go to stores to get 2 more Wii Remotes, there are NO white ones in stock, and my only option is the new black one with the WiiMotion Plus built in for an extra $10.. Even then, most stores are either sold out or have 1 in stock only.

What gives? Why the shortage? I really don't care to get the WiiMotion Plus piece at this point... Maybe if it was white. Not that I don't like black, but when everything else for the Wii is white, it seems stupid to have 2 remotes that are black... Then, if I ever had a game that can really utilize the motion plus, but needs a nunchuk, I've got a black controller with a white nunchuk... LAME!

Are they phasing out the white controllers altogether?

And again, why the shortage?
Wish I knew. I have similar issues. Seems like horrific merchandising to me.
Nintendo often has "shortages" around the holidays. (I say in quotes because some people believe they are artificial shortages.)

But to be helpful, the Motion Plus can be removed from the black WiiMote, and it includes a second silicon skin which fits the shortened controller.

Plus the Nunchuk and Classic Controller can be had in black too (well the Classic Controller can only be imported at this point, but they'll show up here soon).
Yeah, but I have no need for a 3rd or 4th nunchuck... So I will be sticking with my 2 white ones. I know that the Wii Motion Plus is removable, but again, 2 black controllers with an all white system... I like my equipment to be the same color. It always bothered me a little bit (just a little) when I had my Panasonic DVD player in my home theater. It was silver, and everything else was black... Maybe it is stupid, but when I just need two white $40 controllers, I don't want to pay an extra $20 to get them in a color I don't want, with a feature that I don't need. If Wii Motion Plus really becomes that big of a deal, I'll fork over the $20 each (I know, more than if I just bought it now) in the future...
You haven't bought Sports Resort yet? It is the only game to really make use of Motion Plus, it does work well and quite fun. The black Wiimotes are a little ahead of the to be released Black Wii which is rumored to be released this year. There is always a run on remotes at Christmas, buy them from uphere, there are lots of white ones available \:\) .

I've been waiting for a black Wii, even though my main Xbox 360 is now white. And since I've already waited so long for a Wii, I may as well just wait for the rumored Wii HD, right?
I am waiting for the Wii HD and they had better release it in black right away.
Wow, we all think alike. I'm waiting for a Black Wii HD too. It's bad enough that I have to use an analog cable to hook my PSP up to the TV, I thought we were done with that technology.
Unfortunately there are still more people with SD TV's than with an HDTV so analog connectivity is still required to allow for the greatest sales possibilities. I was among those masses right up till the 26th of December as my 40"LCD was in our bedroom and the main TV was a 36" CRT. However I agree there should be at least one method of HD connectivity on all of these devices for those of us with HD TV \:\)
I had a 36" CRT (my last analog set too). Beast of a thing. Paid $1500 for it, but gave it away to my brother for free; provided he'd get it out of my place without me having to touch it.

The 32" Sony I had was heavy enough, for sure. My sister has it now. I remember being so excited when I got it. I was too impatient to wait for a friend to help me lift it, so I lifted one corner onto a chair and then twisted it onto the wood table I was using as my TV stand. It seriously took all of my effort. Thankfully, I didn't break it.
I have a 32" Sony as well \:\) The Sony weighs more than my 36" Panasonic! That front glass section is very thick on Sony CRT's. I always end up moving these beasts on my own as I am never willing to wait for help, wouldn't be so bad if they gave you hand holds, the new 58" plasma has them, but my arms are to short to reach to both ends ;\)
Maybe this is why the white remotes are not available:
