Does anyone here ever go power kiting?
You know, using a foil kite like this:

I am looking to get my first beginner kite like this for me, and then a couple of small ones for my kids to take on vacation this year to the beaches in Florida.

I was looking at a Symphony Beach 1.3 (small and compact) for them, and a Symphony 2.2 for me. I don't feel like getting dragged around with the bigger ones.

Just looking for some opinions as I can get these at wholesale from someone I know, but I need to make a decision really soon.

Only in my worst nightmares.

Before clicking I assumed the thread referred to stealing electric power from one's neighbor. Apparently that wasn't even close.

Is the idea that this would be used for kitesurfing ? Somehow the idea of balancing on a surfboard-y thing and flying a kite at the same time seems like it would raise one's stress levels rather than lower them.

Is the kite tether covered with ground glass to avoid tangles with other kite "strings", or do you have to manage "air traffic control" along with not running into nearby surfers ?

Those type of kites ARE used for kite-surfing, pulling buggies, snowboarding, etc, but I'm not looking at anything that big. Just a couple of 1.3 (51" wide) meter ones for the kids while at the beach, and a 2.2 (87" wide) meter for me.

Those big ones start getting measured in feet instead of inches, and that is too much for me. I'm not that crazy...

Nick. Is it my imagination or has your bunny lost weight? He seems to be getting a lot of exercise reaching for that carrot.

Y'all don't have any beaches in Iowa you could do that on?

There might be some beaches around here, but we rarely have time to go flying. On vacation, we are going to have a few days with down time that we could get out a kite and have at it...

Am I the only one who keeps wanting to read the subject as "Power Knitting" or what?
