Axiom Home Page
I have an idea for the forum members attending the celebration in September. My cousin happens to run a small stiching/screen printing business and it gave me the idea of having t-shirts made for us to wear on Saturday, the day of the Axiom event. This project has already been approved by Ian.

Basically, the design would be something small on the chest of the shirt, identifying us as forum members with our user names underneath. It would be stitched on the shirt since it's the least expensive method. I'm not sure how embroidery would look on a t-shirt, but I could possibly get polo shirts instead, depending on the cost. When I submit the design to my cousin, along with quantity and what type of shirts we want, I can get a final price from her. However, I'm not asking everyone to pay for the shirts, but help would be appreciated since I won't be able to afford paying for the entire project alone. What's important to me is that everyone wear them to the event...or it defeats the purpose of having them made.

If it sounds like something you all might be interested in, does anyone have suggestions on designs? Ian gave the approval to use the Axiom logo. Is anyone good with Photoshop?

One more thing...I've not seen my cousins work before. I trust she will do a good job, but she's new at the business as well. If we decide to do this, I will have her make one shirt with the final design, and I'll have her take a picture of it for everyone's approval.

Thanks!
Mary

Oooh...I wish you were able to attend, Ken! It would be nice to meet you!

I am totally IN, Mary!

I admire you for going public with this project, and hope you will not end up spending too much time on it.

I'll be happy to contribute monetarily.

I think we should make Mark do the photoshop stuff. Really, what's he done for anyone lately?
Maybe Axiom could "donate" the shirts this way they would already have Axiom's log/name on it.

Ian offered to help with the cost, but we are all going to need different sizes of shirts, not to mention I'd like our names stitched on them too. I wouldn't expect him to go through that trouble.
I think there is enough time for people to put in an order to Axiom for the size of shirt they require and then have it shipped to your cousin. The name would then be listed on the order form with the shirt.
Mary, there's several of us here that are good with Photoshop and can play around with some ideas.

You already know that I support this project, but can I offer some concerns? (I'm hesitant to muddy these waters for you!!)

I'm ALSO not too sure about an embroidered T-Shirt. Personally, I would rather see a Polo with a "generic" Axiom logo on it, with individual name tags being worn as "name tag stickers" for the day.

If I have my name stitched onto a shirt, I know I'll never wear it again. If it was a Polo (or, I guess, a T-Shirt for that matter) that DIDN'T have my name on it, I'd get a decent amount of use out of it.

In other words, a shirt (in particular, a nicer one) can have use for that day and many days after... IF it's not permanently embroidered with something dumb sounding like "Medic8r".

We can have a "Vote on the logo design" Poll.....
Hi Mark! I totally see what you're saying. But, I think we should at least add something like "forum member" to the shirt though to make it less generic. I didn't want Ian to think I was going to make a lot of shirts which were generic enough to sell since they already sell polo shirts here...but for $45! Yikes! Having our user name on the shirt would prevent this. But, if we could come up with something more personal to us as forum members, I think he would be okay with it. Also, I think t-shirts would be the way to go since it is less expensive. My cousin could easily do a screen print as long as we only had one design for all shirts...eliminating the user name.

I will check with her on the cost of embroidered polos too. If we could all get more use out of the shirt, that would be a nicer option. When we get the final design figured out, I'll submit it to Ian for approval.
I like your idea, it's a pity I live in Japan and won' be able to attend this meeting.:( If I were going to the celebration I would really love to have my T-shirt or polo shirt with my forum nick on it. Even though I see some point on what Mark said, I would like to keep mine ( if I were going ) as a memory of the day! Could you make one for me if I pay for the costs? I would really love to have one! \:\)
I (mostly) agree with the square-room guy. I think if the shirts were forum-specific as Mary said, that would be cool and would be enough differentiation to not subvert Axiom marketing. I don't really care if it's a t-shirt or a polo - I'm gonna wear that thing out either way.

Maybe in addition to Axiom Forum Member, we need a spiffy catch-phrase.
  • Cheerfully productive thread-jacking since 2002
  • We're too busy typing to actually enjoy our speakers
  • We don't have to be fanboys; they really are that good
  • You got a problem with that?
  • Because AVS is a buzzkill
  • How can we "help" you today?

I'm sure Mark, Fred, Adrian and all you other creative folks can come up with something even better.

(that's right - I really did just suggest we compose a mission statement via group activity over the internet. Worst. Meeting. Idea. Ever.)

Or how about something specifying the day...like simply, 30 Year Anniversary underneath the logo?

...but not everyone would get the joke
I think if the logo were specific to this event (say, using a 30-year-anniversary" line with one of Tom's lines as well), it would be specific to this event and not subvert Axiom's own shirts.

I just re-read this whole thread, and realized that I wasn't very clear in my above post.

What I was thinking was an Axiom logo, specifically altered to commerate the 30 years, the day, or the forum, but without peoples' actual names/screennames on the shirt.... identifying people that day could be done with some sort of a name tag for use on that day only instead of permanantly being a part of the shirt.

It still may not be the preferred idea, but I wanted to make sure I was clear in that my post above just said "generic Axiom logo". I meant a common (among each shirt), user-designed logo. This should also lower the overall cost since each shirt doesn't need to be embroidered for each name.
Posted By: CV Re: Idea for members attending event in September - 06/25/10 05:17 PM
If we're going to use stickers for the name tags, we can at least have some nice-quality ones made up, and we could include our avatars next to our names... assuming you don't look exactly like your avatar to begin with.
I'd be glad to do that.... I was planning on something along those lines before Mary mentioned the idea of the shirts in a PM.

I'm bad with names and will likely get you and Jack mixed up if I don't have nametags of some sort.
Mary, what color for the shirts?
What are you waiting for Mark, let's see some designs. I'd be willing to bet a few of us not going \:\( would be willing to purchase a shirt as well.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Idea for members attending event in September - 06/25/10 05:29 PM
Yes, if these aren't meant strictly for those attending the celebration then I'm sure many would like one.
In Axiom we trust! \:\)
I was actually starting to play with some ideas in PS, but we would probably need to decide on a shirt color and I need to find out a little about embroidery-specific or silkscreen-specific concerns...

Mary must be at lunch. How dare her! \:\)
I'm gonna vote for my own:
Axiom. Turning sweet spots into wet spots, two ears at a time.

People are always confusing Charles with me. Or, they often think I'm his younger brother.

How about Axiom blue, with white lettering.

I've lived a rough life holed up in my bunker, it's true.

I'm thinking white or black might make more sense. If you go with a shirt that's "Axiom Blue", you'll end up with the blue logo blending in unless you specifically put the logo in a "box" of contrasting color.

Also, it's unlikely that you would get an exact match, and therefore you'd have the "Axiom Blue" logo over an "almost, but not-quite right Axiom Blue" shirt.

Just my opinion...
Mark, couldn't you make the Axiom logo white? Not that I care - I'm just not following you.
I was also going to ask about shirt color suggestions.

Also...if we choose embroidery on the chest of a polo shirt, the simpler, the better. If we have too much text (like a long catch phrase) it's going to be hard to read or too busy.

I got a response back from my cousin about cost...$8 to $10 for a t-shirt, and $15 for a polo. That is, eliminating our user names...which I think is the better option.

So, the first poll should be...polo or t-shirt.
Oxford.
Polo.

But not water polo.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Idea for members attending event in September - 06/25/10 07:37 PM
Marco.
Polo, with my screen name inscribed on it, because it is so awesome.

medic8r

Not as awesome as, say, sonicfox, the coolest screen name of all time, but still pretty awesome.
Your screen name just seems like a license plate to me.
I know, isn't that cool?! I tried it, but the state said no, must've thought I was self-medicating with a401classic's Maui Wowie.
Polo.

Mary, that price is for the shirt AND the embroidery? I'm paying $28~$30 for my business polos!

Is there a color limit... i.e, three color threads?

Tom- most companies don't like their logo color changed. IBM "green" and Coca-Cola Blue are just wrong...
Ah! I didn't think of it that way. Thanks, Mark.
Why, you're welcome, Tom!

::Rubs Tom's head briskly as if he's mussing up his hair::

(yeah, I know)
I support any color other than white or black. I'm not trying to be oppositional to the distinguished poster who proposed them, but I really do like a rainbow of colors in my closet. Riff on that one as you will.
 Originally Posted By: tomtuttle

Winner!
Axiom's own polo shirts are white with a black logo, so I think we are free to chose any color we'd like. But, it would be nice if looks different from theirs. I kinda like Jack's idea.

The price for the polos include the embroidery, but I'm assuming it's for only one color of thread. I'm not even sure if she's able to do more than one color of thread on the same design. For sure, with screen print, it can only be one color. Keep in mind it's my cousin who's going to make them which probably is keeping the cost down. But she runs everything from her home. She can do the job, but I don't think anything too elaborate. So, let's narrow it down to one color of thread.
If we're going to go with one color, than we should ask Ian if he wants to keep his logo "Axiom Blue"...

Most automatic machines will do several colors automatically, Mary... it's just that some places might charge an extra quarter for more than a couple.
And, I should add: the color of the shirt would no longer matter to me.
I call dibs on the special Square Room Edition of the polo shirt.
Posted By: CV Re: Idea for members attending event in September - 06/26/10 02:37 AM
I'd also vote for polo. While I don't usually go for white shirts, I do like black. Darker reds or darker grays are cool. Browns and greens work for me, too. Yellow, pink, light blue, orange... I'm sure I wouldn't pull off as well, but I don't really fear any of those colors being in the running.
CV is my new fashionista! He cares, but is fearless!

He probably even owns more than four pairs of shoes.

Oh, man, sadly I only have one pair, and they have holes in them. I'm going this weekend to buy a new pair.

Yes, I was envisioning the lettering (i.e, Axiom logo) in white on an Axiom Blue shirt.

Well, you certainly could be right but Ian doesn't seem to be locked in on one particular color.

However, I'm fine with just about any color (other than pink).

What IS consistent is the Axiom font and the sytylized lower case (very tasteful, IMHO) "a". Didjaever notice these wise audio guys all name their companies with names that begin with "A" (Aperion, Ascend, Axiom, AVthis and AVthat) Everybody wants to be first in the phone book. ;\)

Oh, and POLO over T, but either is OK.

CV, I wasn't mocking you. My apparel acumen is pitiful.

Great idea Fred, but, unless I get a transparent backrest, you can't read the back of my shirt grin .

Also, I don't need my name on mine. Pretty sure I'm the only guy in a wheel chair. Unless some of the old timers wheel around in a commode (AKA-'listening position on the forum) for convenience wink smirk
grin

I get one of those about once per decade. Hopefully others like the idea too.

I don't mean to sound like I don't like this idea, but remember, it's going to be embroidered (if we are going with polo shirts). All that information is going to be bulky on the shirt not to mention it's going to drive up the cost. On a t-shirt, this would look great!

I've been out of the loop here...I don't get "negative orange".
Posted By: CV Re: Idea for members attending event in September - 06/27/10 04:50 PM
Good point. That would definitely be better as a t-shirt.

Negative Orange is simply an ongoing source of entertainment, a fantasy band that members get to construct jokes around. It started when I had a dream about being on a plane and the pilot said that our emergency status was negative orange or something. That sounded like a good band name, and away we went.

laugh And the doctor is going......... eek
the Negative Orange idea is totally fun, but we can do it any time - independent of this event - and it is clearly a "concert t-shirt" concept.

We should just look at an elegant, simple polo with the Axiom logo and some sort of customization relating to the forum and/or the anniversary. IMO.

What happened to the t-shirt idea? Did you guys give up on it? I wanna buy one, please!!!!

No, I didn't. I'm about to submit a design for everyone to review shortly...either today or this weekend.
Well, Jeeesh, Mary....what's taking you so long??? wink grin
Mary, please don't submit it to "everyone". You can't find joy in creativity by committee. Whatever you and Ian decide will be lovely.
That is for sure Tom!
Posted By: CV Re: Idea for members attending event in September - 07/16/10 04:42 PM
Yeah, instead of putting it up for review, just present it as final.
But ... but ... I am used to complaining, and my ideas always make everything better. And I'm always right.
Here's my only dilemma...what do we want to call ourselves? I like "Axiomite". It is currently a ranking here on the boards, but I think it sums up who we ALL are.
I normally insert myself into address book as "Rockin' Cool Guy" whenever I grab somebody's cell phone when they are not looking, if that helps.

Either way, for God's sake somebody buy me a T-shirt!!!!!

::Mopes slowly away crying::
I like Axiomite.

Or, SuperHotStudBoy.

But Axiomite is probably more appropo.

probably.
How about something we can never achieve, or some of us can't. laugh
"Owner in the Making"
I gotta stop reading these anniversary threads they just make me more depressed frown
I think I've got axiomitis.

:scratching:
Well, if we can't go with

::runs away listening::

Then I think "Axiomite" is just dandy.

I have to go modify my phone contacts now.

"Axiomoes"

End of discussion. laugh
What about Axiomholic! LOL smile

Speaking of custom t-shirts, I finally got around to getting my dragon-choking-on-unicorn graphic on a couple new t-shirts. I still owe some friends their shirts with that image on it, years later, so I was testing the quality of a couple of places. For anyone who's curious, Cafepress.com's fitted tees are definitely inferior to the Americal Apparel fitted tees that Zazzle.com uses. I liked the quality of the printing of Zazzle better, too. I was going to try a couple of other places, too, but I actually think my search is over. I'm just going to put my order in with Zazzle... after I get my Canada trip paid for.

I think it would be much more effective to have Teri model his shirt and post on the forum while were all up there.
There's not much Teri won't do, Scott; she's a lot of fun. I'm sure she would happily model it.
