I just finished the last episode of "24" Season 8 and don't know what to watch? I never watch shows on first broadcast due to the advertisements. I have kept up with "Blue Bloods" this year although we are watching "On Demand". Any Recommendations for Shows on Demand or available via DVD?

What did you think of season 8(24), Rob?
Posted By: oldskoolboarder Re: What to Watch - 02/15/11 12:02 AM
Lost or Battlestar Galactica.
Posted By: Adrian Re: What to Watch - 02/15/11 12:05 AM
The original Perry Mason episodes are great entertainment.

I really enjoyed the 3 seasons (I think) of "Eurika!".

I think that I am a fan of 24 because it is sooo politically incorrect. Having said that, Jack turned into a butcher and president what's-her-face was out of character for most of the time. Dahlia Hussan is totally hot. I was dissappointed that they did not wrap up the loose ends from earlier years - such as the secret society that existed behind the political scenes was left in secret?

I am not familiar with Eureka? What is the main story line?

Actually, Lost is on our short list. We got through the first 2 seasons and faded after that. We might pick that back up.

It's scifi. A lawman is transporting his daughter, who is a felon, across the country, and their car breaks down near the town of Eurika. Eurika turns out to be a strange town inhabited by a lot of strange people. They are all geniuses, working for some strange company, performing weird experiments. It's a town off the map. He gets detained there and ends up being a lawman for the town with his daughter running loose.

I'd rate it as mostly drama, and a little bit comedy.

I quit watching 24 after season 4. It would take me forever to catch up.

Eureka is our favorite show. Very cute and witty.

Californication is my favorite show. It's too raunchy for a family show, but I find it hilarious.

Just started watching Justified, with Timothy Olyphant. I think I like it.

The Big Bang Theory is our new show because it's my buddies favorite, so I had to give it a try. It's about three genius geeks, their 'dumb' engineer side kick and a girl. Cute show, but very geeky.

My girlfriend likes Bones, so by default, I have to watch it. It's like a clever CSI with humor and better characters.

I like Weeds, but no one else in the house dose. I think it's very clever.

Mike and I live in the same house, apparently.

Everybody here, especially Charles, is expecting me to recommend Buffy the Vampire Slayer so I don't want to disappoint

Hey, 4.7 stars with 527 reviews...it can't be all bad!!
Posted By: Craig_P Re: What to Watch - 02/15/11 04:51 PM
If you haven't already, The Wire, Madmen, Breaking Bad.

First one is easily the best show on TV ever, and the latter 2 are the best currently on TV.

Another vote for Eureka.

Although it’s only two seasons I thought that the HBO show “Rome” was very entertaining.

I also thought that “The Tudors” was good though I didn’t like it quite as much as “Rome.”

NCIS, the original one, which has had a pretty long run so far has maintained it’s quality.

“The West Wing” is great at first though it looses a step after the first couple seasons.

All of these, and The Shield.

I thought the last two seasons were lacking compared with 2 and 3 which I thought were the best(never saw 5 or 6 mind you).

Good suggestions. I'd throw in my votes for the already-mentioned The Wire and NCIS, as well as Friday Night Lights, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and, of course, Freaks and Geeks.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: What to Watch - 02/15/11 07:08 PM
Leverage (if you can find it, TNT seems to be doing their best to make it unavailable except for on TV), Dead Like Me.
Posted By: oldskoolboarder Re: What to Watch - 02/15/11 07:20 PM
For all out humor, I'd suggest the following in no particular order (some is guy humor, but REALLY funny)

1) Sunny in Philly (as suggested above)
2) The League on FX, which is the funniest show IMHO.
3) Archer on FX. How can you go wrong w/ 2 actors from Arrested Development? (Archer's mom is the Bluth mom and the rival company is owned by Michael Bluth Sr.)
4) Bob's Burgers on Fox (same lead guy as Archer)
5) Portlandia on IFC (Lovin Fred Armistead)

Now I gotta check out Eurika. Kinda sounds like Fringe, which I really like. I needed conspiracy show to take over Lost.

Eureka! With 2 Es! C'mon, people, don't you have spell check built into the browser?!
Posted By: CatBrat Re: What to Watch - 02/15/11 07:31 PM
Not for Eurika. I just checked.

May not be in your spellcheck, that's how the show is spelled:

I only spelled it right because I’m dyslexic.
Posted By: CatBrat Re: What to Watch - 02/15/11 08:25 PM
I think it's time to change the spelling of this word from eureka to eurika. Oh, small beginnings.

Another new series on Showtime this year that I like is Shameless. I can't even begin to explain it. It's very different and entertaining.

A couple shows that pissed me off, because they were cancelled: Deadwood, Rome.

It's getting hard to find a series to watch that isn't some kind of cop show.
Posted By: BobKay Re: What to Watch - 02/16/11 05:36 AM
I thought Rome was great. Though I was kinda shocked when they killed off that Caesar character, especially on such a pretty March day.
Posted By: BobKay Re: What to Watch - 02/16/11 05:42 AM
Have you seen Spartucus on Starz? It is "Rome," with big name actors, but filmed by Vivid studios in the San Fernando Valley. (Not really--another Brit effort.)

It's total porn. And really, it's distracting. Full frontal everything, every 5 minutes and somethin' for evreyone----straight sex, gay sex, lesbian sex, three-ways. It's a bore. Production values aren't Rome's, the dialog is corny and uses the f-bomb in every third sentence.

Though, I gotta say, whatever taste one likes in one's mouth, there's succulent flesh enough for all manner of preferences.

There, I said it.

Someone at work was just telling me about that show. I was telling him I was feeling dirty because of all of the old west whores in Deadwood, and he admitted to being addicted to watching that show.

Sounds like my Catholic guilt! I can help you to learn to ignore it. A whole bunch o' shrinks made a ton of money off that one. And then became social workers and dentists.

I lived 22 miles from Tombstone and commuted through it everyday.
The "old west" whores are still there. Now though, they get their wardrobes at WalMart in Sorry Vista and only screw the OK Corral re-enactors. Um, I mean, Sierra Vista. Town slogan on the "Welcome to..." sign? Sierra Vista! Where a visit lasts a lifetime!

Not exactly un unbridled endorsement.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: What to Watch - 02/16/11 03:20 PM
Might as well just watch Caligula, no?
Posted By: BobKay Re: What to Watch - 02/16/11 05:04 PM
No. These humans are way hotter. Not the big name people, but the extras have lots of, um extras.

Turn off the sound and listen to John Cage.
Posted By: michael_d Re: What to Watch - 02/16/11 06:17 PM
I've been watching Spartacus. It's entertaining, but like you said Bob, a bit too much.

I bought and watched the BR season one of Sons of Anarchy. I thought that was a pretty good show. Haven't bothered to buy the rest of the seasons yet.

Started watching the Tudors, got through three seasons and just couldn't watch it anymore as I think they could have followed history a bit better.
Posted By: CatBrat Re: What to Watch - 02/16/11 06:24 PM
Season One of "Twin Peaks" was interesting. Season Two...not so much.
Posted By: michael_d Re: What to Watch - 02/16/11 06:25 PM
You lived in Sierra Vista Bob? That's where my parents live. I visit them a couple times a year. My dad is one of few living WWII vets and the local Special Forces troops seamed to have adopted him, as he was with the 101st and earned the Medal of Valor. It's comforting to know my folks are taken care of. My grandfather used to work the mine in Bisbee, so I spent a fair amount of youth there.
Posted By: BobKay Re: What to Watch - 02/17/11 12:48 AM
Michael d: Whoa! You ARE from there. I didn't live in SV. I lived 30 miles west of there in McNeal. 5 miles south of Elfrida (birthplace of Marty Robbins--and not much else) and 12 miles north of Douglas.

I was a museum curator in Tucson and commuted 94 miles each way to work. Door to door: 2 stop signs, 3 traffic lights.

I have a friend who lives 3 doors in from the border in Naco!!! And I know Bisbee all too well.
My late other half managed the Copper Queen Hotel.
Posted By: St_PatGuy Re: What to Watch - 02/19/11 02:38 AM
I think I watched a show on the Copper Queen Hotel. Haunted, yes?
Posted By: Argon Re: What to Watch - 02/25/11 12:39 PM
We started Friday Night Lights last night. Watched the first 2 episodes of Season 1. My daughter had been harping on it - apparently, they find the bad boy with long hair (Riggins?) attractive. Dint get that in the first 2 episodes...a text from our daughter assured us that his character is developed later on....
Posted By: CV Re: What to Watch - 02/25/11 07:11 PM
Yeah, Riggins was the character I hated at the beginning, but he definitely grew on me.
